Ate here the other night, food was well prepared, wines were reasonably priced and cocktails were decent. I had the shortrib and she had the ravioli of the day which was mushroom, both were very good. Dessert was also good.

Service was good, no major glitches and she left us alone when we wanted to be alone.  Overall, surpringly good meal.  Interior speaks to more family dining but the food is one notch above that.

On the snowiest night of the year we decided to go out and have dinner out, we chose Barkeaters, we felt it would be almost empty if not closed. Much to our surprise there were several large groups of diners there. The food was excellent, great filet , a very imaginative pork tenderloin, and a smoked fish chowder I could have often.
Great service. Just a little cold near the windows, had to keep my coat on.

I LOVE this place. I own a small business as well and can say that customer service is by far what makes the experience... This place definitely had it! My sister and I stopped in last night because Cucina Antica was closed. We had never been here before, so we decided to try it out. The service was EXCEPTIONAL, I think it was the owner who served us??  The food was SO tasty! We had a mushroom ravioli and red wine, it was amazing. The chocolates at the end of the meal were such a great surprise, we will DEFINITELY be going back very soon! :)

This is the poorest service I have ever had at a restaurant. I asked for a cup of coffee, with my meal, the waitress said the coffee was 4 hours old, I asked her If she could brew some fresh coffee, she replied that it was a full pot and she couldn't throw it out. When I persisted she said I would have to pay for the entire pot, then she still wouldn't brew fresh coffee.  When I asked to speak to the manager, she refused and walked off.  My wife and I were biking from Middleury to Burlington. After this display of bad manners we got on our bicycles and left, without eating. Avoid this poor excuse for a restaurant.

We chose to dine at Barkeaters after a long drive up to Shelburne Farms for a few nights of bliss...and we were not disappointed in this local eatery.  The two employees who served us - Eric and Jen could not have been more accommodating.  They serviced us with efficiency and humor - the food being tasty and straight forward.  Highly recommended!  Cheryl

Stopped here on the strength of the other reviews. We had a great BLT with thick, hand cut bread and still warm homemade chips. A crisp Caesar salad and a Fiddlehead locally brewed IPA.  Fast service, nice patio, reasonable prices. I would definitely come here again.

The hostess/waitress was SO RUDE. As soon as I walked in she addressed me and said "We're not serving dinner." What she should've said was something on the lines of "we're not serving dinner yet, but we have a bar menu available" We wanted to sit outside and her annoyance at our request was very obvious. She was annoyed at the request, even though they were offering outside seating. Before we even ordered we wanted to leave and we should've in retrospect. If your waitress has brown long hair/fake tan/short and in her 20's WALK AWAY.

    Barkeaters was a nice surprise.

I was a little hesitant after walking in and seeing a semi-empty restaurant but I quickly warmed up to the quiet and cozy atmosphere. The veggie egg rolls were an excellent appetizer and was the best part of the meal. The chicken statler was straight forward and to the point and the vegetables on the side were cooked perfectly. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. I will definitely come back here to enjoy the quiet atmosphere and the simple, yet delicious, food.

Barkeaters wasn't terrible but it sure wasn't great, either. Service was friendly, but slow (to be fair, it looked like there might've been one waitress for the whole place the night we were there). The duck chili tasted mostly of tomato sauce, quite disappointing. Cobb salad was fine, but the lettuce was literally whole lettuce leaves, and not small leaves either. Way too large to eat, we had to chop them ourselves before the salad was edible. Mussels were good (nice sauce), as were the fries. Steak was overcooked and unevenly cooked. Nothing was actually bad, but it was overpriced for the quantity and quality.

My boyfriend and I  decided to give Barkeaters a try,  everything seemed like it would be spectacular, the Adirondack Lodge decor was cozy and inviting. We are both 20 something's and enjoy indulging ourselves in a good meal since we both work very hard.  We went for an early evening meal and the bartender was friendly, as nice as could be.  We were enjoying some beers and an amazing appetizer of PEI mussels.  We were in heaven. More staff started to file in as well as the owner.  The warm cozy environment quickly changed.  we got the impression from the over bearing owner that we were taking up space at her busy restaurant.  She was riding the great bartender about every little thing  while not saying a peep to the other older female staff who appeared to be standing around as the reservation filled restaurant was at capacity.  She undermined him although he was taking great care of us, we even heard her say, "You can't do everything,". While she persisted to steal the show and deflect him from serving us.   I can not complain about the food it was amazing.  We ordered an appetizer,  each an entree, desert as well as drinks.  My boyfriend even ordered a Booker's top shelf Bourbon.  Between entrees being about $20 a piece and our extras, we were spending a fair amount of money but the owner seemed to give us both the impression she wanted us to leave to make room for paying customers.  We feel bad to say we left with a bad taste in our mouth because the food was tantalizing, the service from the bartender we persisted to keep ordering from was great.  It is apparent the owner knows how to run a great operation, but my advice is to relax and smile a little and don't judge the cover before you open the book.  As cliche as that sounds, she should respect every patron that walks through that door weather they seem to be a  wealthy local businessman or a young blue collar worker, everyone deserves respect and is entitled to a good meal.

This place is cozy and very reasonably priced.

I ordered the chicken quasadilla. It came with a side salad. The quesadilla was suppose to have green peppers in but but instead had scallions. It was good bit seemed to have been fried rather than grilled. Overall still very good.

The turkey club was huge. It came with homemade chips.

The ceasar salad was a good portion.

Service was prompt and food prep time was good.

The only problem was the peaty flies inside the restaurant.

I was extremely pleased with the meal - Saturday lunch - I had at Barkeaters with my mother and sister.  The staff was friendly, the atmosphere relaxed, and the food was great!  We did get the table by the kitchen, and the service was just a tad slow, or else this would have been a five-star review.  Let me just say: the food is EXCELLENT!  I had what I expected would be a rather predictable BLT - let me tell you, when you put applewood smoked Vermont bacon on that sandwich as the "B", add fresh, locally grown lettuce and tomatoes and some magical mayo - well, it is anything but predictable.  The house-made potato chips are great.  I also sampled the mussels - fabulous, just the right amount of garlic and white wine - and the out of this world eggplant flatbread pizza.  That last dish comes with an exquisite side salad. My son wants me to mention that he loved the side of fries we brought home for him.  It's good to go with family.  :-)  The price is right, the ingredients are as fresh as they can be, and the staff is super friendly.  This restaurant is a little off the beaten path which is why I want to say - go out of your way to eat at Barkeaters.  It's well worth a visit.

The five stars are based upon the relaxed atmosphere and desserts (I cannot speak for the entrees, etc.). My friend and I stopped by The Bearded Frog for dessert and a glass of wine, but she didn't like the dessert options and I didn't care for the inattentive high school student/host. So, we opted to try Barkeaters and we were pleasantly surprised. The bartender was very charming and pleasant and the coconut cream and chocolate cream pies (reportedly made by a "Mona" in Vergennes) were heavenly. It seems like a great place for a casual and relaxed dining experience or, better yet, a cold beer on the deck after work. I'll be back in a few weeks when I visit Burlington again!

Maybe it's not a fair comparison but we miss Sause which formerly was at this location. Good improvements in the decor; this space has a new and better appearance. However my wife and I were bolth somewhat disappointed by our entrees. Chocolates at the end of the meal were a nice touch.
