This place is beautiful.  The map makes it look huge, but from the mansion to the pool is about 300 yards.  Despite the proximity of the other guest cottages, the landscaping made our cottage feel secluded.  There are a variety of activities, and our experience there was spotty at best.
Some great things and some really disappointing things as well.
    1.  Cell Phone service: I have Sprint and my phone had no service while at the resort, except at high points on the golf course and at the shooting course.  My boyfriend has AT&T and he had full bars throughout.
    2.  The in-room, free wi-fi signal was very weak in our suite and non-existent while out of the cottage.  If college campuses can be completely internet accessible, so should this resort OR they should be very up-front about the lack of connectivity.
    3.  Pets: We brought an 85 pound dog and she was welcome everywhere except the pool and restaurants.  It would be nice if there was a fenced dog play area where the pooches could be off leash.  After three days, the dog definitely had cabin fever.  If you are bringing a dog, you must book a suite.
    4.  The four  fire pits are a nice gathering space and s'more fixings are available at 6pm every night.  The staff will even start the fire for you before 9pm.
    5.  The service was spotty, the staff was either pleasant or standoffish.  No-one was excellent.  IMO the key to excellent customer service is flexibility.  As a customer, I don't like hearing "no" and as a Disney employee I was trained to not tell a guest no, unless it was a safety issue.
A 20% gratuity was included in every bill, even the pool snack bar and was not adjustable.  Additionally, an $18.00/day/person resort fee applied.
    6.  Food was disappointing.  It is a remote resort, and we are a captive audience so I would expect variety and flexibility in the kitchen.  They don't make pizza on property.  The closest delivery place is 45 minutes away and it is Pizza Hut.  They also won't make a club sandwich, even though the kitchen has bread, a toaster, sliced turkey, bacon, mayo and lettuce.  They don't have any quick grab options, so if you want to eat before your 9:30 tee time plan to sit down at the grill no later than 8:15, or order room service by the same time.
    7.  Our suite was clean and had wood floors, a front and back porch and a standard bed.  The linens would also be found in a Holiday Inn Express or Econo Lodge.  The shower was large, with plenty of hot water and adjustable water pressure.

Overall, a nice place to spend a few days with a variety of activities but the service and accommodations are not on par with the prices.

I visited Barnsley for the first time Memorial Day weekend and was overwhelmed by the beauty and peacefulness of the resort. I loved that all of the accommodations where in cottages. Our cottage has four entrances/ four larger than normal hotel sized, very nice appointed rooms, and a very large bath. We loved just relaxing in the rocking chairs on the front porch enjoying the lush greenery. We took a little hike, had a drink in the beer garden, watched the families playing on the green. I cannot say enough good things about the Woodland Grill where we had dinner. Although it had a bit of an upscale feel to it, we did not dress up and did not feel odd. Our meal was simply top notch. We started sharing the fried lobster tail, then split a salad. For our entree both of us got the blackened redfish served on a bed of the creamiest, to-die-for rice with asparagus. It was heaven. Somehow we also made room for bread pudding, which while good, was not the best I've had. It was a pricey meal, but we both thought worth it.  That evening we enjoyed the benefit of a band that was playing for a wedding there. The next day we had lunch at the grill as well. The food was adequate, but service very lacking that occasion. Then we explored the gardens and ruins before leaving, which had been closed the previous day due to the wedding. No the resort it not cheap, but nor do I think it should be. Can't wait to go back.

Our first visit to Barnsley Gardens and we found the history is unique and curious, the cottages and landscape are charming.

Barnsley gets 3 stars, it is charging "Preferred" prices and delivering lack-luster product and service.  The staff are all nice, however not trained in proper hospitality service.  On top of this a 20% service charge is added to every meal and drink tab.  Why be exceptional when you get tipped regardless of performance!

The food is good, but certainly not at the level they are charging for.  Wine list is weak and very overpriced.

Sad to say but this resort looks like the owners have not kept it up. All cottagess are in need of paint and a good cleaning, gardens are in shambles, stables are a sad sight. But the golf course looked inviting. The Spa, train the staff to care for the client, again overpriced and a  20% adder, why bother? We returned to the cottage to find that housekeeping had left the trash on the floor in the foyer and had not refreshed the bath supplies.

I hope to encourage the owners to bring this unique property back to what it certainly once was.

The cottages are great to stay in--my husband and I came here for our honeymoon last year and our first anniversary this year.

That being said--if I'm here to relax and enjoy myself for almost $500/night plus activities, do NOT act like my massage is an unbearable chore for you. Leave the bad attitude at home. It's hard to fully enjoy a massage when your masseuse seems irritable.

20% service charge for meals?! Ridiculous! The hostess seated us with the lunch menu at dinner (which was not labeled as such), then appeared 5 minutes later to snatch them out of our hands and replace the menus with the much more pricey dinner menu. The service was weak at best--definitely NOT worth an $8 tip. So much for dessert or drinks. The food was extremely overpriced for what we got. I don't remember it being that bad last year. $30 for some blackened fish...meh.

All-in-all, it's a nice resort. I recommend bringing your own breakfasts/lunch items to save on the overpriced food. They do have a tiny refrigerator that fit enough food for us to have a nice breakfast on our own.

Barnsley Gardens as a location is easily 5 stars - as a resort it sadly only rates 3.

That said we return each year - as it is close to The Pumpkin Patch farm.  We meet at Barsley with friends, which makes for a great multi- family trip.

The gardens and Andrew Jackson Downing inspired cottages are the best part of this resort.  The history is unique and curious - the Barnsley family fortune was lost, but the gardens and bucolic atmosphere remain.

The resort only rates 3 stars IMO because it is charging Ritz  & Four Seasons prices without the commensurate service.  The people are all nice enough -- they are, simply not trained in proper hotel service.  On top of this a 20% service  charge is added to every meal.  Why be exceptional when you get tipped regardless of performance?

The food is good, again not at the level that they believe they are charging for.  Wine list is pretentious and overpriced.

These faults should in no way discourage a stay at Barnsley, but hopefully encourage the owners to kick it up a notch.  Hint: welcome return customers with "oh welcome back Mr & Mrs Jones" etc - standard hospitality treatment, track repeat customers - offer incentives or rewards - train the staff (ritz program is a good start).

I think Barnsley Gardens is one of  the most beautiful places that I have visited, so I think my review could be slightly more positive that is deserved because I really appreciate the perfectly manicured lawns and the care it takes to keep gardens in bloom year round.

Last night my husband and I and a few friends decided to try out Firefly nights. We had wanted to go for two years, but always decided against going because of the drive. When we arrived we didn't have to pay for parking which was a nice surprise. We just informed the parking attendant that we were there for the event. We weren't staying at the resort for the evening. I know the accomodations are exceptional but $300 a night is a little much. After parking a golf cart took us to the main restaraunt. They were full, and we didn't have reservations; however, they told us the Rice House was open and they called to let someone at Rice House know we would be on our way.

When we arrived we were seated without a wait. The manager did come to our table after we had been there for about ten minutes and told us that he would give us a free round of drinks if we would move our table because he has a minor crisis. He and a wait staff person moved our table to the corner. Not everyone ordered drinks, but they were not on the house. We ordered the the crostini, the fried tomato salad, the steak, and creme brulee for dessert. The crostini was good. The fried green tomato salad was not really a salad. It was delicious, but it was a stack of fried green tomatos. The presentation was nice- in fact, the presentation of everything was very elegant, but just in case you are counting on some lettuce in your salad there is not any. I am very particular about steak- in fact, I have only ever been satisfied with two that I have had- and last night was the third. Very pleased. It did take a while to get our entree, but everything else arrived quickly. It was also surprisingly warm in the restaraunt. The creme brulee was just alright. Two different staff people recommended it, so I was expecting exceptional. I like anything sweet, so it was fine- but just alright.

Once again a golf cart transported us to the ruins for the Firefly event. The transportation was really pleasant as the grounds are quite expansive and it was dark and we were dressed up. For anyone who plans to attend lots of men in shorts and wide range of clothes from cotton dresses or capris to elegant cocktail dresses, and suits without jackets. Wide age range as well- mid to late twenties to sixties I would guess. The event was lovely. Good crowd. Lots of people dancing, and relaxing. Lots of places to sit and socialize if you didn't want to dance. Everyone there seemed to be enjoying the evening.

This place is just plain gorgeous. It would have been a more lovely visit if we came on a spring time when flowers are well bloomed. Most of the flowers were sorta not as bloomy as it would have been. Although, this magical gem is incredibly beautiful. It was such a different feel compare to the other resort I've been. I definitely recommend this place to relax and just enjoy mother nature.

My wife and I had our "mini-honeymoon" here, and it was the best! My wife said that even if I had whisked her away to Paris it would not have been as good (hyperbole perhaps, but I'll take it).

The staff was professional, competent, friendly and on-point. It was as if everyone was happy to work there, and everyone focused on how they could make our stay better. Even small things mean a lot, like delivering congratulations balloon bouquets (unprompted) to our suite.

We enjoyed skeet shooting, bike riding around the resort (including mountain biking on the trails), swimming, and sharing a bottle of wine in the lit-up ruins at night. The food and service was also superb.

I cannot possibly say enough nice things about Barnsley Gardens...you'll just have to go and see for yourself.

I've visited this site on several occasions for my staff's winter retreat.

The property is beautiful and offers cottage style room quarters. Each cottage has private bedrooms and private bath with a common area that the other guests in your cottage can access.

This place has great history and the ruins are a must visit. Also, if you have the opportunity take the horseback tour and end your trip with a visit to the spa.

I plan to visit in the warmer months as I can imagine the property will be beautiful.

What happens at the office holiday party stays at the office holiday party...

My sister's generous employer paid for his entire staff to eat dinner, get wasted and spend the night in a cottage at Barnsley Gardens for their holiday party this year. And I got to be her date.

Our sage-green cottage contained four private bedrooms and adjoining bathrooms. And, since we knew all our fellow cottage-goers, the building's common area was available for our enjoyment, too. Our bedroom contained a king-sized bed with a sitting area and a fireplace that burned all night while I drooled on my paisley pillow. The bathing room contained a claw-footed tub, sink and shower; and a separate door enclosed a potty and second sink. (This is a wonderful solution for any co-habitating couple; waiting to eliminate while your honey hogs the shower is the worst.)

The pre-party occurred at the Big Chief's cottage, where he happily mixed Old Fashioneds along with dozens of other libations. Immediately upon his request, a staff member delivered a plate of sliced oranges to dip into the O.F.s.

For buffet food, dinner was exceptional, stand-outs including the salmon with dill, beef stroganoff and tomato/red onion salad. Din-din took place in the Pavilion with a couple other office parties. While those people approached the bar with a single drink token, we guzzled cocktails all night courtesy of our wristbands.

I fell asleep in the cottage before the after-party, waking up fully rested and abdominally able to order breakfast via room service. The Crab Cake Benedict absorbed any remaining Jack in my system. I didn't care for the coffee, most likely because soymilk wasn't available to dilute it.

I could go on and on about the property's other attractions: the Ruins, the Rice House, horseback riding, golf...

But I'll close by describing the 21-year-old child who relentlessly hit on me with the Arm on the Wall Move.

"Let's dance," he suggested after trapping me in a corner.

"I do have a boyfriend," I eventually said.

"Oh yeah? That's not what I was told. Well I have a GIRLFRIEND."

"Cool, how long have y'all been dating?"

"Two weeks," he swelled his chest.

A little piece of heaven lies just 60 miles north of Atlanta: Barnsley Gardens. It's in a remote location, so follow the signs closely and you'll get there without a problem. Everything about Barnsley Gardens is just fantastic; it's impossibly charming and romantic.  Everyone is so warm and welcoming, and chances are good that you'll run into the in-house Fairy Godmother while you're there, who is positively wonderful. Woodlands Grill is such a treat this time of year- from the warm fireplace to the beautiful holiday decorations, you'll feel right at home.

I came here with my family after a day of shopping at the Calhoun Premium Outlets. I had the tenderloin tips alfredo ($12.95), which was made with mushrooms, shallots, garlic and a light alfredo sauce with tortellini.  I'm not a huge alredo lover, but this dish was full of flavor and perfectly comforting, without being too rich.  I would also recommend the chicken pot pie (in puff pastry), the grilled salmon BLT (my parents' favorite) and the General salad, which is served with romaine, grilled chicken, berries, almonds, haricot verts, etc.  They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, and if you want to dine "lighter," then ask for the pub menu (which is essentially the lunch menu) at dinner.

Woodlands Grill would be a great place for a romantic date, dinner with your family, or a post-spa treat with your girlfriends. The property is gorgeous and full of history, so if you can, take the time to explore the ruins, museum, and gardens.  If you want something more relaxing, then get a drink and cuddle up next to the fire.  And if you need help planning a special occasion, be sure to contact the Fairy Godmother, Denise.

Food was ok here. There weren't many options at the Barnsley Gardens resort. Prices were awesome for a resort. You can easily get a meal for under $10 here. Service was ok. They kept mixing up our orders. One server gave one friend in our party the wrong order. Even after our friend cut up the food, the server took that and served it to the other person who was suppose to have that plate. It wasn't a big deal because we're all friends, but still... this usually does not happen in restaurants.

Ask to sit outside. There was screened area in the back of the restaurant where you can see the golf course. The view was beautiful.

I ate breakfast, lunch, and dinner here as it was the only available option at the resort while we were there.  The building is basically a combination of country club, bar/lounge, and restaurant.  The interior is nice, but you do feel like you are in a clubhouse rather than an upscale restaurant.

Service throughout the 3 meals was good in general though the server at lunch brought the wrong dish to one person in our group and incorrectly seemed to suggest that she had actually ordered the dish she brought when she hadn't.  As a result, everyone else was done practically finished with their meals by the time the correct food arrived.  Other than that slip up, everything was fine though.

The food was fairly good in general, but not great.  You would not mistake it for a nice restaurant.  My main problem was that they charged nice restaurant prices for food that didn't quite make the cut.  It just came up a little short.  For breakfast I had some sort of French toast with cinnamon and nuts that was pretty good.  For lunch I had a bbq cheese burger that was decent, but nothing spectacular.  For dinner I had a (tweaked) caprese salad (heavy on tomatoes, light on bleu cheese), roasted quail (it was fine), and a slice of cheesecake (good, but it's a bit hard to screw up cheesecake, isn't it?).  The food was fairly good, but it was aiming to be very upscale and super high quality and it just fell short.

Anyway, this is definitely a decent place to eat at if you are at Barnsley Gardens.  I'm kind of doubt this calibre of dining would be available elsewhere in Adairsville, but I'm not sure.  Despite those positives, I have to warn you to be prepared for inflated prices and food that isn't quite as nice as you would find in a good Atlanta restaurant, for example.

My boyfriend and I went for the day and picnicked out on the huge lawn.  There are remnants of old gardens and it is very pretty in a dilapidated sort of way.  The mansion was burned I think around the time of the civil war, but the imposing ruins remain and you can wander around in them.  There was a DJ setting up his table for a wedding reception in the ruins for that evening when we were there...very cool.  You can go downstairs in the ruined mansion and look at lots of civil war memorabilia.
There is a new-ish golf course and hotel with cute little bungalows you can rent.  Also a good spa, I hear.
