Wow is this gray Barbecue! Stop in here after the JD tour. It's just behind Main Street, walking distance from the distillery.

Get the pork sandwich. A small is $3 and is plenty of food.
    They have three sauces:
    House special
    habanero (both tomato based)
And a jacked up vinegar (not for me)

Some of the best pulled pork I've had!

    Staff is super friendly.

We had all but given up hope on finding a place to serve dinner after five pm in this bizarre little dry town when the Open sign at the Barrel House flashed like a glowing beacon. Tucked behind the Iron Kettle at the back of the square, it was literally the only place open. But we would have wanted to eat there anyway.

We sat outside at the picnic table in front of the smoke house and got to watch the owner/operator working the grill. Good thing he was slammed, or he might have noticed my not-so-subtle unsweetened tea additive. Lets just say it wasn't Stevia.

The ribs were fantastic, as was the half chicken. Loved the habanero sauce, especially the part when the bottle backed up and splooged all over my husband.

I liked the vinegar slaw too - lots of celery seeds.

Don't skip it if you're in town. Not that you'll really have a choice.

After reading numerous reviews about how great this restaurant was, we stopped by on the evening of June 29, 2013, and let me tell you.. we were not disappointed.

The pulled pork BBQ is some of the best I've ever had if not close to the best (So good that I ordered another sandwich).  The meat was very juicy and flavorful as were the sauces.  Each table had three sauces, a vinegar based, a standard and a habanero based sauce, which I highly recommend.  The habanero sauce wasn't hot like you would think, it was very sweet and had a tiny bit of spice just enough to make it nice.  As for the sides you don't get a very large choice at the Barrel House.  My sides were potato salad and a vinegar based coleslaw, neither were that great, but then again I came for the pork.  I could have also chosen the baked beans which looked like beans from a can like Bush's or a bag of potato chips, this restaurant doesn't offer any kind of fries or macaroni or anything like that.

For dessert we had the Jack Daniel's Bundt Cake or house cake or whatever they called it.  Either way it was a bundt cake made with Jack Daniel's and then topped with nuts and a Jack Daniel's icing..  this cake was Heaven.  I highly recommend it just as much as the pulled pork, its actually had to say which I recommend more at this restaurant.

All in all Barrel House BBQ is a must if you are in the area.  It's a small restaurant with top notch staff and even the owner was extremely nice, he came out and talked to the guests regularly.

The only reason why this restaurant did not get a 5 Star rating from my review and the only reason is because of the flies inside.  At one time we had three at our table at and they were quiet bothersome as they pestered us and tried to land on our food.  Maybe in a future visit I would love to give you guys a 5 star rating.

Great food served fast. Very friendly staff. Somewhat of a small selection, but that helps for quick picking! Definitely would recommend this to anyone.

Hurry to this little BBQ haven now before the rest of the workd finds it.  This a a little joint in downtown Lynchburg, walking distance from the Jack Daniels Distillery.  The ribs were cooked to absolute perfection.  The pulled pork was juicy and flavorful and although not needed. the sauces were balanced, tasty and a delicious addition.  the owner Chuck stopped by to visit and was very pleasant and informative.  Hard to beleive that a place with this quality has only been open a year.  We wish them continued good fortune and we will be back.

Great BBQ!  We ate there while waiting for our tour at Jack Daniels next door. It was a short walk across a foot bridge to historic Lynchburg.  All four of us agreed that it was the best pork BBQ we had ever eaten.  It's located down a side street to the left as you near the square.   We got a family pack and had plenty for all of us.

It's only a matter of time before the line starts going out the door at lunchtime. Visit this little gem before the secret gets out!

Barrel House is a small, 10-ish table restaurant that the owner built himself from a former laundromat. Even though the owner said he had been there just a year, it feels like it's been there forever. You're welcomed into the front door by a shelf of mason jars of their homemade BBQ sauce (which you can snap up for $7 or so-- we brought home the habanero). The service was great-- the owner himself stopped by to see how we were a few times. The prices were pretty unbelievably fantastic. $12 for two mounds of sides and a huge, meaty 1/2 rack of ribs.

We both ordered BBQ plates and had absolutely no room left for dessert! His was melt-in-your-mouth pulled pork with fresh, non-soupy slaw and really tasty baked beans. Mine was a 1/2 rack of ribs with a perfectly crispy, dry-rubbed exterior and a tender interior that fell right off the bone. Each table is outfitted with three delicious homemade sauces-- the aforementioned habanero, a thick slightly-sweet, spicy, and vinegary sauce, and a nice thinner vinegar sauce.

No one is trying to reinvent BBQ here, they're just making damn good food with a whole lot of soul.

Authentic! On the out skirts of the little town square that is setup. It was closing time for a lot of the shops but they stayed open. One tip, you can get 15% off your meal by stopping into urge gift shop at the top of the hill prior to ordering. Their brisket and pulled pork had just come off the grill, piping hot with a few different BBQ sauces later my meal was finished. It really was finger licking good!!!

Thoroughly enjoyed this place. It's pretty new, only 7 months according to the manager guy, and isn't fancy by any means, but it's a bbq place! The good bbq is what's important. I got the smoked sausage, which was fantastic, and the mustard-based sauce was a great accompaniment. My folks got pulled pork and chicken, also solid. It's pretty inexpensive too. Definitely worth checking out. Service was a little slow when we wanted to pay, but otherwise no complaints!

I'm sorry it took me so long to get around to writing this review. We were in Lynchburg  during Hurricane Sandy. It was a spare of the moment trip, we were in an RV traveling from Chattanooga to the North East. Our trip got flipped upside down when the storm came and we ended up heading to Lynchburg to take the JD tour and wait out the storm. We ended up doing the last tour at JD's and by the time we were done all the other restaurants in town were closed, we were starving and in a Motorhome and were beyond thrilled to see there was an option for us to have dinner within walking distance of the Distillery. The biggest surprise was how wonderful the food was and the friendliness of the staff.
I ordered the BBQ chicken meal and my other half ordered the burger. Both items were cooked perfectly and the portion sizes were good. Actually I'm not a huge eater but I managed to eat the whole chicken dinner on my own because it was just that good. The baked beans were also tasty and so was the potato salad, we had a piece of home made cake for dessert and it also was wonderful and actually home made in someone kitchen. Their sauce was absolutely wonderful and so good that we considered buying a container to take home. The staff was also super friendly and even the owner came over and chatted with us while we were having dinner and offered us some samples of other items. I would highly suggest this place if you're in Lynchburg. The prices are reasonable and the BBQ really can't be beat!

The ribs here were ok, but nothing special in my opinion. I couldn't detect any type of seasoning and it didn't really tastye like they had been smoked although you can see the smoke house right outside the restaurant. This place serves baby back ribs instead of spare ribs so that aggravated me to begin with,LOL. I also had their vinegar cole slaw, which was pretty good. The service was very friendly but their ribs just didn't appeal to me...although everyone else at the table liked their food.

while you are waiting for your distillery tour to start, walk over the path to historic lynchburg to the barrelhouse bbq.  this place is simple and just what i would expect from a quality small-town bbq joint. phenomenal pit roasted pulled pork (available as a sandwich or a plate).  unless you are a small child, i recommend getting the large sandwich ($4.99) as it is not too big, just a good size.  house made baked beans, slaw and potato salad were all declared excellent. i am not normally a big sauce eater, but i did try the "jacked up vinegar sauce" as well as the mild house sauce.  both were very tasty!  the owner, chuck, was there and could not have been friendlier or more attentive.  the service was excellent.  the only things stopping me from giving the barrelhouse 5 stars are:  no corn bread/cake/muffin, no fried okra, and the drinks were served in styrofoam cups; the meals on styrofoam plates.  i know they are the cheapest, but in this day and age i have to look down on any place not using at least paper.

one last note:  BE AWARE, MOORE COUNTY IS A DRY COUNTY. as with all the other establishments in lynchburg, you will not be able to have a beer with your lunch here.  for that you'll have to dry 12 miles in just about any direction to another town.

Good food. The ribs were sold out but the pork sandwich was a great replacement. The "chocolate lush" dessert is awesome. I recommend eating the dessert first. The owner is friendly. Plus you get to write your name on the ceiling tiles.

Absolutely the best smoke sausage I have ever had. The sauce was otherworldly. I really liked their BBQ sauce and pulled pork as well.

If you pass through Lynchburg.. Don't miss a visit to Barrel House BBQ!!

The only BBQ place in Lynchburg smoking their own meat in a smokehouse out back (smoking the meat with whiskey barrel wood!). The ribs are melt in your mouth good. They make a sauce that just will wish your rack of ribs would go for ever. Fresh cakes made in house was a perfect end to cap off the meal. Everything was priced reasonably and with choices for little ones. Really great and friendly atmosphere with testimonials written on the ceiling tiles. The owner, Chuck invites you to leave your mark before you leave.

Take a picture out back at the Barrel House Smoke House!!

The best around! Unique environment, handmade barrel seats and tables. Very nice owner and great pulled pork! He pulled it right out of the smokehouse and served it up moist and tasty! After the Jack Daniel's tour-this is a must do tour-sit and relax and enjoy great food!

If you are looking for great homemade barbecue, don't look any further.  The nice folks at the Barrel House smoke and Que all their own meats to include chicken, ribs, sausage, and pulled pork.  They also have a terrific burger.  Don't leave without trying the fresh made dessert of the day!
