The BBQ here is really good. The building has a cool atmosphere and it's kind of in an interesting location where they cook right out back. A good number of people from Vance AFB will make the pilgrimage up here because of their large portions and good food. Â
The ribs are the thing to get, but they don't cook them every night. If you want to go up during the week call to see if they will cook some up for you.
What can I say? Since moving from central CA to Oklahoma, finding good food has been difficult. My wife and I have pretty much been left to making our own food, when we want it done right.
My business associate and I stopped here on one of our routes from NW Oklahoma down to the city. I was intimidated by the name of something called "Hog Wings," but I'm soooo glad I tried them. Blew my mind. Smoked pork, looks like a shank....tender, smokey, and not a single bit of nasty fat. For a picky meat eater, this is a serious win. Definitely the best piece of pig I've ever eaten.
I also tried two ribs... CRAZY GOOD! Meaty, smokey, a touch of their house "HOT" bbq sauce. Dang good. Not as clean as the hog wings, but I honestly don't eat ribs enough to know... just meaty, and tasty. Sides were good, beans & potato salad. The reviews have it right...the potato salad IS something special.
At meals end, the gentleman brought us each a cup of banana pudding, with whipped cream and wafer crumbs. Dang good! This was particularly refreshing, as my pallet was cleansed of the meat flavor. Nice touch!
While Bbq Joint may not be the prettiest place, it's got character, and the owner has heart. We spoke with him for just a moment, and he obviously loves what he does. Business often brings me through pond creek, and I hope to visit Bbq joint often.
***TIP: Bbq appears to be closed on Mondays. Also, show up early, as the Hog Wings seem to go fast. You seriously NEED to try them!!!
After I reviewed this place someone who I assume is associated with this business  on some level messaged me this: "I hope your lies provide you some sleep at night... karma one word." umm. I messaged them back saying, "What do I have to gain from lying in a yelp review?? I wrote a 100% truthful review." I have yet to get a response back but I'm sure if I ever do it will be just as hateful as the first message. Obviously this has left me with an even worse taste in my mouth. If someone who can confirm that they are associated with this business wants to respectfully respond to my comments I am open to it, but if someone wants to send me another accusatory petty message I can promise to tell anyone I know who lives in the area to stay away from this place.
Review Source:What a great little dive... I'm considering keeping a summer home in Pond Creek just to enjoy the smell that radiates from this place. The BBQ is the best I've had in Oklahoma, way better than Turkey Creek.
We had a giant group so we called ahead and made sure they held back a few racks of ribs for our party. I tried the ribs, sausage, brisket, and pulled pork, and it was all great. The potato salad is AMAZING. CAPITAL LETTERS AMAZING.
We drank a few cold ones and hung out with the owner... he hasn't been doing BBQ for a long time but he knows his stuff and cares about his meats. Come here looking for an experience, not just a dinner, and you'll have a great time!
