What a pleasant surprise. Â We missed the detour in Fredricktown, so we figured we'd push on to Greenville for dinner. Â This is what my college art teacher used to call a happy accident. Â
Greenville has under 500 people, and it seems like mostly an old roadside stop. Â Two gas stations, the Bears Den, auto repair shop..not much else comes to mind. Â Our hopes were not high as we walked in, but it's a nice little diner. Â Clean, some video games, a pool table, air hockey. Â It's a gameroom and grill, like the name implies. Â There were a handful of locals having dinner on this Thursday night. Â It's a homey small town diner - the kind people like me like to find.
We asked the waitress what was good and she said everything. Â Now, this is a teen girl who we figure is the daughter of the cook. Â From what we had, she was right, though. Â I had chicken livers with a baked potato and green beans. Â You've got to love a place where chicken livers are as prominent as anything on the menu. Â They were pretty good. Â The green beans were even better, really. Â Not sure how they were seasoned, but wow, they were good. Â The wife had a burger, daughter a big hot dog. Â Major props for offering tater tots as an option to fries. Â Total bill, about $18 and we all had drinks. Â If I have a complaint, it's the food did take a while to come out. Â But maybe, just maybe, life is a little less fast-paced in Greenville.
The chef came out to greet us before we pushed on. Â Nice folks. Â Be sure and stop in if you're heading down highway 67 or in the Wappapello area.
