Amazing place and amazing service. Â They offer gluten free and whole wheat pasta which is a plus. Â My boyfriend took me here and the service staff was so friendly and helpful. Â They have great food and are willing to make you something off the menu if its a realistic request(boyfriend wanted a carbonara and they made him one...it was delicious!). We had the burrata dish(my favourite cheese in the world) for a starter and it was great! Â Pair it with the bread that they give you and you cant go wrong. They also have a good wine selection.
Review Source:First let me say that the setting is lovely. Â As a repeat customer, this was the second time we were beyond disappointed with each and every one of our food selections...Overcooked meats, fish that clearly was frozen previously and not prepared well (yuk!), blah salads, Â lackluster vegetables that were boiled, not grilled...and stale, uninventive desserts. Â Even the bread is mediocre at best. Fresh rolls, breadsticks etc make for a lovely meal. Â Haven't all restaurants learned that?
Sad to say, we will not return to Bellini Osteria. Â Locally, there are many great continental/Italian restaurants. Instead go to Tuscany, Â Rustico, Fins, Daily Grill, Leila's or treat yourself to Maestro's. Â Bellini is certainly not worth the money for an ill prepared meal. Â That may be why the restaurant is empty.
Can always count on Bellini Osteria for a great family dinner, we have yet to try try a dish here that we did not like, especially the server's recommendations.
The overall experience here is just outstanding. The decor is modern, clean and simple, but the food is full of flavor, authentic and consistent. Â
Bellini Osteria continues to be my top choice for a local birthday or special occasion because the service is just top notch.
Had a great evening here the other night. We came on a Monday, so it was an off-night. Service was excellent for our party of four. We sat in the patio and had it almost all to ourselves. This was a specual occasion so I brought a GREAT bottle of wine from my caller, but didn't get any negative or dirty looks from the staff. Â They corked and poured it as if we had bought it there.
Mushroom ravioli appitzer was excellent. I had rack of lamb in a nice light wine sauce. Veal chop and veal scaloppine were wonderful. Only bad dish was my wife's Chilean sea bass which was raw in the middle, and pretty much enedible. Although my wife spoke up (late in the dinner service), they still charged us full fare which I didn't realize till I got home and looked at the bill. That wasn't too cool. At least they should have comp'ed the desert or the espresso.
Total bill after tip was $261 for four, and I brought the wine. No cocktails or after dinner drinks, so this was all food (3 courses). Â A bit expensive but it was a special occasion.
I'd go back but next time order the veal scaloppine.
We came here because of a http://restaurant.com certificate. First time here. Wonderful decor and liked the outside heated patio. The food was delicious, I had the mussels in broth (yum!) and my boyfriend had the t-bone steak (double-yum!). Our server was extremely friendly and helpful. He made our experience pleasant.
Apparently they have a good happy hour sunday-friday 4-7 that we will definitely go back to check out. As well as live music Wed-Friday.
Will also go back to bring clients for lunch. Great little romantic spot or a dinner place for a celebration.
I heard the table next to us going on and on about how wonderful and delicious their pasta was. I need to go back just to try that! I believe I overheard the waiter saying they make almost all of their pasta in-house.
I took my parents and brother here for Mother's Day after basing my decision on the good reviews on Yelp. Â Needless to say it was a very underwhelming experience. The tables in the center of the restaurant are far too small for 4 people, especially if you are truly Italian and order lots of food. Our waiter was exceptional, very attentive and polite.
We ordered 3 appetizers--prosciutto with melon, tomatoes with burrata cheese, and a house salad. Â I found it odd that the melon was served in large slices with the skin on, like how your mother would give you fruit as a kid. Normally I wouldn't complain about such a minor detail but when you're paying $14 for prosciutto and melon you should at least make an effort to plate it nicely. The burrata was too runny, much like cottage cheese. House salad was nothing memorable.
Main courses came out. My veal tortellini was incredibly bland and boring. Mushroom ravioli was pretty good. Lasagne bolognese was alright. Mom got some sort of pasta in a pink vodka sauce that was pretty good. But let's just say I'm glad I brought my own wine...
Bottom line: the food isn't that great for the prices they charge, and neither is the ambience. I won't be back.
Glad to have a delicious friendly place in town
Having left another restaurant disgusted, we were happy to find a spot at Bellini.
The staff is a breath of fresh air as everyone says hello and makes sure you have a good experience.
The decor is upscale/casual look and is very inviting.
Our server were very attentive and the food was great. Â Started with the carpaccio and finished with the tortellini. Â My wife had the seafood linguini.
Both of us enjoyed the nice leisurly pace and never felt rushed.
Thanks Bellini
Tonight was my fourth enjoyable experience at Bellini! My friends and I always enjoy the friendly service and relaxing atmosphere at the bar area, and tonight we dined in the outdoor patio area. We loved the farfalle and salmon dish and of course the cannolis! Â Matt and Joe are the best!
Review Source:First time there....very good food in our party, rack of lamb, veal scallopini, pork chops...all well prepared and served hot. Since we all ordered entrees a side of pasta would have been a good compliment for them to include but everything is a'lacart. Waiters very attentive but we did not feel rushed even on a Friday nite. Make sure you sit outside in the covered patio area as the inside where the bar is located is deafening. Yes we will be back to try other dishes.
Review Source:My now husband and I had our rehearsal dinner here last Saturday night and couldn't have been more pleased! Joe helped us organize everything and everything was perfect! The food was delicious and the service was great. We didn't feel rushed and everything ran smoothly and relaxed. It was great to just relax and not worry about anything before our big day. Thank you so much Joe and Bellini Osteria!
Review Source:Excellent food and superior service!
I just returned from a 3 month stay in Italy and was heartbroken to have to return to "american food" again. This place quickly changed that thought!
The food is extremely authentic in size, taste, and quality. Apparently the owner is from Sicily (infamous in Italy for its fresh seafood and flavorful dishes) so I would suspect he kept the genuine recipes intact from his Sicilian upbringing. I was very impressed with their calamari and sausage and mushroom pizza that our friendly waiter Gerardo recommended. The dessert (warm Chocolate torte with vanilla ice cream) was recommended by our waiter and was ASTOUNDING. Â An excellent finish to an already superb evening.
I will definitely be returning for more Italian taste and to try out their bar/lounge. I dined on the outdoor patio with soft lighting and a black and white Italian movie playing beside us. It was elegant and very warm atmosphere. The patrons inside were lounging around with drinks and mingling, so it would definitely be an ideal place for future girls night.
AMOR!
WARNING!! Â
We went to Bellini tonight for their Valentine's "menu".
What a disappointment. Â
It's always a big warning sign when a restaurant fails to show on the menu how much a meal will cost. Â I realize it was Valentine's Day - but it's a desperate move for a restaurant to stay afloat by gouging unsuspecting patrons on the holidays. Â
(stay tuned - I'm guessing Easter will bring a $65 "Cheesy Scrambled Eggs and Hash Browns Buffet! Â Yeehaw!!") Â
The food was at best boring. Â Small portions. Â Cheap bread. Â I tried the shrimp appetizer - not bad actually - I should have stopped there and settled for a $55 appetizer instead of going the distance. Â For the entree I ordered the beef filet. Â It came out slathered in brown gravy and absolutely raw inside - despite my "medium" order. Â You wouldn't think a tiny steak would stay raw - even if it got near the stove - but somehow they managed. Â
I realize this happens sometimes - food is sometimes undercooked...so the steak went back - and by the time it finally returned - everyone else at our table had long since finished. Â Steak was plopped down in front of me...no silverware.
Every dish at Bellini seems to come with a "sauce", Im guessing they have a couple 55 gallon drums in the back - one marked "red" the other "brown". Â
Dessert choices were Sara Lee in quality.
As we sat waiting for the check I mused that I'd been to Costco earlier in the day - and had a more enjoyable meal grazing the free samples.
The ambiance the decor, the service, the food! It was all very very good. The hostess was friendly, the bus boy was very helpful in making our table not wobble. Our waiter Ismael-I believe, was very attentive he recommended the spicy shrimp dish for my hunney and it really was spicy! Okay not 'slap Johny behind the ear' spicy but definitely had kick! Which out here in boring ville spicy is hard to come by. I had a chicken dish which was also very good the mashed poatatos soooo creamy.
We will be back thanks for the great service!
I really wanted to like this place, but it just didn't deliver. Service was friendly and good but the food left a lot to be desired. We had Insalata Bellini with heirloom tomatoes, cucumber, goat cheese $9 (not very flavorful), Calamari Fritti with spicy tomato sauce $12 (ok, nothing special and a bit greasy), Insalata Misto $8 (nothing exciting), Rigatoni Amatriciana $15 (pancetta, onion, pecorino) which had a thick, heavy sauce, Pizza Margherita $11 (by far the best dish we ordered), and Grilled Salmon with vegetables $22 (okay). Very noisy place. They do pour a huge glass of wine (Saddle Peak) but really not my cup of tea all around. Very expensive for the quality of the food.
Review Source:Went there on a Sat night at 7:30. Seated immediately in the heat encapsulated indoor/outdoor patio area. *feels more like inside but air is fresh like outside. Met our waiter and he walked us through the specials... and his recommendations. We went with 2 of the recommendations and were very impressed. One dish was their restaurant exclusive, which was a thick and slightly twisted short noodle (think of fusing 2 macaroni together without a hollow center) with an italian sausage red sauce...and it was excellent!! I had a Frutti di Mare type special with a spicy thin red sauce that was exceptional. We finished with their Tortino dessert and it was a great ending to a great meal.
We will be back!
I come here 2 to 3 times a week great menu! staff and owner are very personable, just as you would expect from fine Italian dining. Great bar to meet your friends at before starting your night. Very beautifully designed and renowned decorator. I also have my annual company christmas party. My business associate plans on celebrating his birthday here as well. You will keep coming back !
Review Source:If you are looking for tasty Italian food in the Agour/Westlake/TO area, this restaurant is a must try.
The service is amazingly attentive, and reminiscent of the highly professional service typical in top end restaurants. Â There had to be at least 4 different people who stopped by to attend to us.
The menu offers an incredible selection, and not only is there probably something for everyone, for most, it is difficult to choose between so many good options. Â The ravioli is homemade will not disappoint. Â The veal scallopini was moist, tender, and full of delicious flavor. Â Perhaps it should be served with a side of pasta or rice instead of mashed potatoes, but, that is personal preference. Â
The portions are filling and you will not leave here hungry. Â They have an upscale indoor bar/dining area, which is trendy and fun for a night out on a weeknight, and lively on the weekend as they bring in live music entertainment. Â They also have a heated patio area where you can enjoy a more quiet dinner during the time music is playing in the main room.
My star rating may not be accurate since I wasn't that we did not enjoy our meal but when you compare it to Farfalla up the street I think Farfalla is a better choice. Â The server was very personable but a little slow and the food tasted fresh, but a little light on the portioning especially for the price. Â The place was busy for a Wednesday night and it's not a bad choice, I just prefer the other restaurant.
Review Source:This is our favorite hangout - it's the best Italian food in town and the most comfortable bar setting around. We often have dinner at the bar because it's more casual and it's an easy in-and-out. The food is fantastic and the staff is friendly and attentive. And they're super accommodating and flexible with the menu if you have specific dietary restrictions. Great happy hour, too!
Review Source:From the outside, this restaurant looks pretty nice, and once you step inside, that nice feeling continues. But as soon as you go into the outside seating area, that's where the nice stops - at least at night anyway. It was sparsely lit, and the lights they did have were table candles and Christmas-style icicle lights. (Maybe it was so dim because they usually show movies outside?)
I went with a few friends and we ordered the Burrata Con Pomodoro (burrata cheese and tomato) to start, and that's just what it was. Slices of tomato topped with a dollop of cheese and seasoned with salt and pepper. And the portion size compared to the price was a little outrageous. (I mean 4 slices of tomato and 4 globs of cheese? I'm glad that we ordered 2). Now don't get me wrong, it was good, but too expensive in my opinion.
For dinner I ordered the Penne Alla Boscaiola (penne pasta with wild mushroom sauce and aged ricotta cheese) and personally, I didn't think that it had much flavor - there was more seasoning on the tomatoes of our appetizer. I also thought that it was lacking a fresh element - chopped basil on top would have helped the dish a lot. It was disappointing to say the least.
Two of my friends split a pasta dish because they weren't very hungry, which consequently ended up not being enough food for them. The other two got a pasta dish each. And surprise, surprise, we were all a little bit unsatisfied after finishing our plates. (You get more at Olive Garden for about half the price).
Bottom line; if you've got the money to spend, then by all means give this place a try. If you're looking for insane flavor with a great atmosphere, then this place isn't for you.
3.75 stars.
Solid Italian food in WLV. Â Service is friendly but can be a little askew. Â For example, tonight they forgot a melanzane appetizer. Â Ooops.
Bolognese is traditional, hearty and good. Â Osso Buco is tasty.
The space is comfortable, and the patio is nice year-round. Â
Plenty of free self parking is in their shared lot.
It had been a while since the wife and I had gone back to Bellini for a meal. Â So we headed back for a Friday Night. Â The owner John and his son Joe are still making the rounds and greeting all the tables. Â The crowd at Bellini is decidedly an older Westlake Village, Mercedes driving crowd. Â We saw several couples in their late 40's cuddling and kissing at their tables out on the wonderful enclosed patio that was surprisingly warm during a fall night. Â The grilled calamari salad is still great and has a healthy amount of squid. Â The only miss of the night was the butternut squash risotto. Â The risotto was cooked well but was really lacking in the flavor department. Â Great ingredients, just needed some more garlic and seasonings to make the dish stand out a little more. Â Bellini has some great Italian dishes and a ton of energy and I am glad to see them still going strong after 3 years.
Review Source:I absolutely LOVE this place. Â The food is amazing, the chef is from Italy. Â The atmosphere is always dark, comfortable and cozy even though the size of the place is large. Â I really enjoy sitting on the patio because they have it surrounded by plants, heaters keep you comfy on chilly nights and there is always a black and white italian film playing on the large white wall with subtitles. Â I really enjoy it! Â Sometimes they have live music...the musicians are always good. Â Sometimes a bit loud...but good.
I highly recommend this wonderful find. Â The owner is a very sweet man and his son is often there making sure all runs smoothly. Â Try it! you will be glad you did.
Bellini is an upscale Cheers. Â No No No, in a good way. Â Let me explain... The theme and location give the impression of your typical cookie cutter "Family Owned" Italian restaurant in a nice neighborhood...but when you meet the staff, or better yet, take a savory bite of (literally) anything, you will realize that you home. Â Like Cheers. Â But classy. Â The Bar Manager, Matt, literally knows the name of every person who walks through the door AND their favorite drink. Â Talk about customer service! Â And between his witty banter and movie star looks of the Manager and Owner's Son, Joe Spina, you won't want to leave til they kick you out. Â An excellent menu with the freshest ingredients is just one rung on this very layered ladder. Â Other rungs include: the hostess is adorable and always wears a smile, the owner is always there and ensuring his guests a great time, and finally - if you look closely, you may see Wayne Gretzky in the corner.
Quick Tips: Eat at one of the bar tables if you want a little more liveliness. Â If you are on a date, make reservations and ask for a good table. Â Also, the Risotto, Pink Grapefruit Martini, and Creme Brulee are musts!
Small-medium restaurant in a quiet shopping center. Â The restaurant was not busy when I visited for lunch today. Â The staff was polite and friendly and my waiter was cheerful and built a good raport. Â
The strawberry salad was good, though some aspects had overwhelming flavor punches that did not always blend together peacefully. Â The cornish game hen was very tender and had a lovely flavor. Â I really enjoyed the potatos and roasted vegetables with it. Â No deserts jumped out at me as being a must-try, but maybe next time I go. Diet Coke was definitely from a bar dispenser, which ruins the flavor, in my opinion.
Overall very good food and exceptional service!
Great restaurant... Â great staff and nice atmosphere... Â They were a little rocky when they first opened BUT I must say that they've got a rocking menu of true Italian foods and the staff has really stepped it up in service.....
Owner is a true ITALIAN not just someone trying to provide an image...
I like that chicken sandwich they serve up...... OH MAN...... Â
their specials are always inviting and delicious
My GF treated me to a dinner here a few weeks ago and we had a very enjoyable time. Â As we heard Bellini tends to get crazy busy on the weekends, we decided to eat early and booked a 5:30pm reservation via open table. Â One of our Yelp brethren mentioned the restaurant screens classic Italian cinema on their patio on the weekends, so we opted to dine al fresco that night and requested an outside table. Â
As Bellini's attractive hostess guided us to our table, we noticed that the restaurant is an "L" shaped affair, with a marble-clad bar that opens to an upscale rectangular dining room, connected at the opposite end to a more casual enclosed patio area of more or less equal size. Â The patio sports a home cinema projector with an 8' screen surrounded by drapes and an array of flickering candles.
It turns out they were playing "La Strada" that night and the hostess seated us at a booth directly across the room from the screen, where we could side side-by-side and enjoy a bit of Fellini with our entrees. Â Note that the movies here are sans dialog and intended more as kinetic wall art than screening material; Â However, Â they are subtitled so you can actually follow the plot if you so choose. Â Either way, its a nice touch that adds to the overall atmosphere of the place.
Bellini's menu is fairly comprehensive and was complemented by a number of interesting specials the chef was featuring that evening. I wasn't feeling super adventurous so I opted to start with the calamari fritti, followed by a peppercorn steak (one of the chef's specials). The calamari was lightly breaded and quite plentiful, and the steak was a nice cut, well prepared and served with tasty sides. We ordered a moderately priced bottle of Chianti that complemented our choices (and the atmosphere) quite well.
For dessert we opted to try a slice of their grandmother cake, which unfortunately I found pretty bland and disappointing - Its menu description was definitely more interesting than the execution (in fairness, I'm not a big fan of custards). Â But the Sambuca (properly served in a brandy snifter with three coffee beans) and double espresso kept my spirits high as we watched Giulietta clown and Anthony flex.
I should point out that the food quality here is quite good, on par with other local TO restaurants like Fins, Marcello, or Tuscany, although Bellini offers more of a modern/trendy atmosphere. Â While I can't honestly claim that any of my selections blew me away nor hit it out of the park, I found they were neither more nor less than I was expecting. Â I would rate them quite acceptable for the price.
One area where Bellini did knock it out of the park was the staff: Â Our waiter (Kevin) was very friendly and attentive, and the service was spot on, neither sparse nor intrusive. Â The owner/manager came by more than once to check on us and actually comped us on the dessert and drinks; The place was getting busy at that point and he apparently felt the wait was too long (we hadn't complained). Â Its obvious that the customer experience at Bellini is very important to the owners (which was quite refreshing and one of the reasons I prefer smaller, privately owned restaurants over the ubiquitous corporate chains that inundate and homogenize our cities).
Long and Short: Â Well prepared classic Italian cuisine in an upscale atmosphere, with friendly, professional service and management that actually cares about its customers. Â I'll definitely be back. Â A presto, Bellini!
I have been there 3 times (twice for lunch & once for dinner) and each time was a great dining experience. I've tried the mushroom ravioli, the beet salad and the mixed greens w/strawberries, candied walnuts & feta cheese...added some grilled chicken on to it & it was delicious!!
For desserts I've tried the tiramisu & the creme brulee..both were excellent! They also have a nice selection of Martini's. The service of the wait staff was excellent, & you felt welcomed as soon as you entered the door. I will definitely be going back again. :)
The setting of this restaurant is very apropos to the community of Westlake. A very nice bar welcomes you as you enter this place, A chic and sophisticated table setting is a feature by itself as you wander through the whole place. It somehow reminds you of a more quiet Hollywood glam in the most subtle way...now, lets talk food!
The Antipasti (appetizers)
There is quite a few selection of antipasti which is great, We opted for the Batillarda and the Calamari Fritti. The Battilarda is a selection of Italian cold cuts & cheese served on a plank it consist of prosciutto, salame, mortadella, olives and parmigiano. The Calamari Fritti is your basic deep fried Calamari ONLY better as you can taste the freshness of the squid, battered in a delicate blend of flour and seasonings then fried in good oil. It is as close to authentic Italian antipasti as you could get, served with a delightful glass of Merlot or Rosenblum Zinfandel, you could find yourself immersing in a full Italian culinary experience.
For my main course, I had the Costata di Bue, an 18 oz. rib eye steak (rare) served with wilted spinach, creamed potatoes and roasted potatoes, The preparation of the meat was absolutely wonderful, It was tender and juicy and not overly grizzly, the wilted spinach and potatoes was a nice touch to a flavorful cut of meat which was truly highlighted by not overly seasoning the side dishes. I highly recommend trying a room temperature glass of Rosenblum Zinfandel to go with this delightful cut of meat. This is one of the entrees in their menu that I highly recommend.
For Dessert, I had the Tiramisu and a cup of fresh brewed coffee (who could resist right?) I have to say, this one failed to hit the happy notes of my taste buds, It lacked the layering of flavors and texture which a delicious slice of Tiramisu delivers on your first bite. It was bland & a bit coarse to say the least.
Overall, this place rates pretty good in my book, amidst the lack-luster Tiramisu, their main course delivered with a POW! & BAM!
Thumbs up to Bellini Osteria!
Let me start off with the BAD - Worst Service ever, i mean bad, we were a party of 10 and there was only another party of 4 in our waitress section, she took forever, i mean i know getting water is a tough drink order, but, come on.
I can write a page on how bad this waitress was, but i feel this is enough
The food - To start off we got Carpacio with Arugula, the beef was thinly sliced and tasted great
Costata di Maiale al Funghi instead of roasted potatoes i got saffron risotto. The pork chop was tender and juicy. The saffron was a great substitution
The food did save this experience once the food got there
After being a fan of the owners previous restaurant, Ritrovo, I finally made it over to Bellini Osteria. Â Sorry I waited so long.
It was quiet for a Saturday night in terms of customers, but the noise level high which much to our chagrin is not restful and romantic but since it was quiet, not over the top noisy. First, we brought our own wine after calling to find the corkage reasonable. The menu has Branzino and I love a good grilled sea bass and my husband a perfect veal chop. We started with a couple salads: me a Caesar which was good but needed anchovies. When the Banzino arrived however, we were in fish heaven. The branzino was perfectly cooked as was the veal and the roasted potatoes with the veal were beyond excelent. Vegetables were crisp and fresh. Moist, tender, flavorful. The only thing missing was being ath te Hotel Daneli having the same dinner with the Grand Canal of Venice out the window. But Westlake Blvd will have to do this week.
Bellini's interior is a far cry from the old Mandevilla dining room. Â It's hip and modern, yet comfortable. Â The bar looks like a nice spot for happy hour, and the rest of the room does well for a romantic dinner. Â I was particularly struck by how friendly the hostess was. Â The service was very good and prompt. Â We sampled the batillarda appetizer - a dish of cold cuts and parmesan, as well as the eggplant parmesan. Â For our entrees, we tried the gnocchi with meat ragu and beef lasagna. Â The dishes were all good and satisfying, and the portions were not too big or too small.
There are many Italian restaurants in Westlake/Thousand Oaks. Â While I very much enjoyed Bellini, I think it's one of those places that I'll just forget about going to. Â At that price point, I might seek out something else.
Great place for Happy Hour. Dinner is ordinary. I had a chicken dish - mostly tasteless and very non-tender. Martinis excellent, but expensive.
Service was excellent and management friendly. Nice atmosphere. The kitchen needs to wake up and figure out more tasty dishes. Then it will receive 4 stars.
Go to drink, not eat.
We were looking for a new Italian place in the Westlake/TO area so we thought we would give Bellini a chance.
Overall tt was good, but not great. The service was a little slow, but our server was polite whenever he stopped by to answer questions or provide refills. The food was satisfactory. Our burrata appetizer was flavorful. My girlfriend's ravioli was very good, whereas my rigatoni was just fair. Â
The night I was there the crowd was mostly 40-50 year olds, except for the few guys at the bar with sporting the "Jersey Shore Affliction/Embroidered Dress Shirt" look. We showed up on a Friday night at 830 and we were one of the last tables to sit down the rest of the night.
If you want to try a new Italian place in the area give it a shot, but I would rather stick to my usuals: Piatti and Farfalla.
WOW!
So our neighborhood has added a much needed, and a much anticipated opening of a new restaurant / lounge. From it's mix of hip and sexy decor, to the menu full of delish Italian inspired foods, this place is sure to be a mainstay. The GM & partner Maurizio La Rosa used to run Dolce in Hollywood for the last 8 years, and now has brought a piece of the Hollywood flair to Bellini Osteria. A full martini menu, a wine cellar full of all kinda of well priced to high-end wines, and nice bar scene make this place stand out more than the other local lounges.
The menu is well priced, the outside patio is heated from the floor up, and a movie projector plays cool 60's Itlaian classic movies. They have a special happy hour 7 days a week as well. Go for the food, enjoy the wines and martinis, stay for the social scene.
