Went to Benson's the other night with some friends. Serious disappointment. Owners attitude was such a turn off. Seemed like he doesn't need the business. Good thing Salida has several great bars that go the extra mile to make you feel welcomed.

Went there with the wife for an early dinner - burger and a beer.  However, the place was unusually loud. The people at the bar were pretty intoxicated. The bartender was serving shots to someone who was already drunk.  I thought a fight might break out.  The bartender dropped several f-bombs for everyone at the bar to hear.  There was nothing sophisticated about this experience.

The food was so-so.  I think the quality went down some after the change of owners. We're not going back there for a while.

This place offers a low key sophistication that a place like Salida has earned and deserves.  There is an ease to the atmosphere that the mid week bartender Keith brings to the experience that is beyond comparison in any tavern along the Arkansas. Friendly, conversational and welcoming dialog accompanies the great drinks and bar food that breaks the bar food mold.  A fresh take on Colorado natural tastes.  A definite must visit.

Great cozy place on a cold Winter night. Extremely friendly staff.  Very good food. Great selection of tap beers. Great experience all around.

Went in for drinks before dinner and was immediately impressed with the chill atmosphere and the fact that they allowed my pup to join us on the patio.  We looked over the small menu and had difficulty deciding since nothing seemed to jump out at us.  My lady ordered a margarita and I ordered a manhattan.  My manhattan tasted liked watered down cheap whiskey = big let down since I f***ing love strong drinks and had just finished a day of hiking and was hoping for something gorgeous to set me up for a nice din din.  So then I tasted my lady's . . . . it seemed like the margarita mix was from a plastic bottle at best.  No resemblance of fresh ingredients or quality.

So why am I giving them 3 stars?  The waiter/owner noticed my discomfort with my drink and came over and asked what he could do to fix it, plus he was extremely cool and hung by our table to chat for a bit giving us that small mountain town feel one yearns for when living in a big city in Colorado.

This place has huge potential and the service was beyond amazing; however, (and I really really hate to say this) the drinks were horrible.

Great relaunch under new ownership!  Atmosphere is still great and the food hasn't skipped a beat.  Definitely worth stopping in

This is a solid little bar in Salida. We stopped in for a beer while we waited for our table at the restaurant next door. They have a lot of Colorado craft beers on tap as well as some Colorado spirits on the shelves.

The service was good, but we were sitting a table right next to the bar. The room is nice with a lot of old wood and antique decor throughout. They have a huge moose head on the wall which was fun to look at.

We didn't try any of the food, but the menu looked nice with the typical types of bar food. I'd definitely go back and have drink or a bite to eat in future.

New ownership a huge plus. These guys have it dialed. New bar top, refinished hardwood flooring, remodeled menu and plenty of Colorado craft beer on tap. Way to keep the Benson's train rolling. A Salida institution.

Good little local town bar when visiting Salida. It had typical bar food and a small menu but everything we got was awesome! We sat at the bar and the service was attentive and pleasent.  Cool place for the laid back mountain town vibe!

    Poor service.  Below average food.
After being seated at a table outside I had to go to the bar to get a beer since the waitress never came back.  My "California Turkey Club" consisted of a Hoagie roll with Oscar Mayer Turkey smeared with old brown guacamole (advertised as avacado).   If you want to go get wasted then go here..........just don't expect service or edible food.

Generally the food was acceptable however the service was not that great.  There were several types of beer on tap and a fully stocked bar. The beer garden looked cool but all the tables were occupied.  Probably would not go again.

Food much better than other downtown locales, but it's mostly bar food. Group gets rowdy with local raft guides, groupies on weekends, but it's entertaining for sure.  I'd go back....not good place for kids except maybe lunch...and not on the back patio seating area....smoking allowed out there.

Bensons is a great local joint. They have really tasty food (better than your average bar), and great choices for sides. I always get the fried okra as a side, so yummy! Also, they usually have some good brews on tap, including local breweries and a full bar. Bensons often has live music! There is a pool table and an outdoor patio, it's a great place for a good time even if you're just visiting!

Ate here once for lunch and once for dinner. They have free wi-fi. Great place for a filling meal and a beer to wash it down while watching the game on several flat screens. We did not have an opportunity to experience the patio, which claims to be year-round. Service was decent. I would definitely go back.
