Prices are cheap and the food is decent. Nothing special, but it's the best available in the area. The service tends to be on the slow side and the quality of the entrees far outdoes the quality of the sides. Not a terrible location, but nothing special either.

Ok, so after trying the "specials", I can see where some diners may be disappointed. The veal cutlet, pork cutlet and chicken fried steak specials all seem to be processed frozen food. Disappointing.
The chicken and dumplings are run of the mill, nothing to sing about. And most of the salads I've tried I don't like, not including the regular side salad. But potato, seafood, or pasta salad...don't care for it.
We just had breakfast there again, and once again, loved it. The french toast is fabulous.
So we still love our Berryman, we just don't order the specials or salads. :)

Close your eyes and picture this:  an old, large, 2-story white house in the country with a huge porch on the front adorned with hanging baskets and rocking chairs beckoning people to come inside from the road out front.  Typical shotgun-style house with parlors on each side as you enter the front doors that have been converted to dining rooms.  Larger dining rooms can be found in the rear/side for larger groups.  It's adorned with tons of fake flower arrangements and pictures that make the place appear to be more funeral home than restaurant.  STOP!  Time to wake up!

Sadly to say, even though I seem to come back to the Berryman House every time I'm in the area, I keep asking myself - but WHY?  Is it the incredibly mediocre breakfast that's laughably cheap or is it the fried chicken on Sundays that's so good it'll make ya want to slap your grandma?  All I can say is it must be those two things cause it SURE AS HELL AINT THE SERVICE OR THE VEGETABLES!

Breakfast specials are 'ok' - but they're cheap!  I mean, where else can you go and get 3 eggs cooked to order, choice of grits/home fries, toast/biscuit and coffee for 3 bucks!  Yes - you read correctly - $3.  Prices go up from there if you add breakfast meats or order other items like French Toast, etc.  All just kinda average.  You could cook the same, or better, at home.

Dinner menu is standard fare - chopped steak, fried chicken, meat & 3, etc.  Fried chicken breasts are to die for.  Hands down the best in the area.  Call 20 minutes ahead and ask 'em to drop you an order - you'll be glad you did.  All fried chicken is cooked to order only.

But here's the thing that gets me about this place.  It's smack-dab in the middle of east Georgia farm country and the place serves FROZEN AND CANNED vegetables!  LOL.  Really!?!  What idiot decided this?  How about supporting the community around you by purchasing their home-grown crops and serving up some great heirloom tomatoes with a balsamic vinegar reduction, or perhaps freshly picked okra that's been fried to a golden brown, fresh corn served either creamed or on the cob, fresh squash to replace that stuff on the menu they call 'squash casserole' out of the freezer.  DO NOT EXPECT FRESH VEGETABLES at The Berryman House.  It's southern charm on the outside is very deceiving, because every good cook in Georgia that has come and gone is rolling over in their grave at the travesty that is 'The Berryman House'.

Great food at a great price. The service was a little slow, but the great food and awesome sweet tea make up for it.
