I was looking for a convenient local (non-chain) place for my extended family to eat before going to ride on the Polar Express at Rusk.  When I called Bertha's and inquired about the menu I was impressed with its wide range of offerings. It  has a variety options for adults and kids. They were ready for all eighteen of us at the requested time. The food was great (the chicken fried steak was a personal favorite) and the service was friendly and efficient.
Since I live in Austin, I doubt that I'll get out that way any time soon, but if you're near there, I recommend you stop at Bertha's. It's a great family place.
Try the catfish, or the burgers. Â Cheap and good southern cooking.
Catfish is available weekends (all-you-can-eat).
Wednesday is $1.19 Hamburger Day. Unfortunately, I was there on Saturday.
Maydelle is so small if you blink, you'll miss it. Â Bertha's is a yellowish building that looks like an old gas station with the pumps taken out. Â Their sign is small and easy to miss, if you blink.
They are a short walk from Old Farmhouse Pottery and about 3 miles east of Maydelle Country Wines.
