The week I decided I'd only eat meat twice a month, I ended up at Bill's place and sabotaged my diet by indulging in one of the most amazing Philly Cheese Steaks I've had in a long time. The bread was nice and buttery and the meat just right.

I ended up returning the next day for a steak sandwich which was also good.  However, if you are doing take out, your bread might be a little soggy by the time you get to eat it.  I'd recommend eating there if you can unless you live close by.

It is a little dark inside the restaurant and seems more like a place to chill and have a drink among friends.  It feels like a man cave country bar, which can be very appealing to some, but not the place for a romantic first date.

Great place in Wheatland if you are in the area ...

Hmmm... Had a Pulled Pork Sandwich and Ms Wifey had the Famous Bills Steak Sandwich. Didn't bother drinking since it was not our kind of crowd.
Pork was a little dry and lighter than desired spicely. Good but not Great.
Bills Famous Steak" (sandwich) .."a slab of steak between 2 toasted bread slices.." Surprisingly DISAPPOINTING. Seasoning on the bland side, cut was not near prime, excessively grisstly (is that a word?), and ultimately disappointing for being the places name sake "famous" sandwich -.shouldn't it be worth bragging about?? Just me?  ... Wheatland Yuppies, who knew?

This place is great, yeehaw great. I must admit,  even as an outsider I stopped in and had a good time. I will definitely be back for food. Be prepared to see wranglers and dudes who look like they chew tobacco all day. Make sure to sport your NRA trucker hat. The food looked hearty and good and the bartender checked with us multiple times on how we were doing without being annoying. The decor and vibe is top notch and what you would expect in wheatland. I hope that Roseville stops growing before it swallows this place up whole.

Drinks here are poured just right. One piece of advice for Bill's get Bulliet rye whiskey.

Apr 27th was my third time going to Bill's in a year and a half. It's always with six or seven folks and it has been awesome every time. The regulars are accommodating and the bartenders are super friendly.  It's not the type of exterior that would draw you in driving by (which would be surprising since it's kind of off the beaten path) but once inside, it's old-school fun.  This last trip was probably the craziest for my crew, but even after three acts of silliness, the bouncer didn't raise his voice or kick us out.  He just let us keep having fun after a stern look and a couple words.
The steak sandwich is amazing and the regular steaks are great as well, and this is from someone who a) likes his steaks, and b) lives in Las Vegas where premium steakhouses are everywhere.

Cheeseburgers or bust!!!  Thats how I felt after I had one of their cheesburgers.  A great hole in the wall with a branding iron feel to it.  The crew I was with enjoyed their steak sandwiches.  All the food is cooked on a hot grill that you can see from your own table.  The burger was a fat hand made burger cooked medium just the way I like it.  Nice size bar with branding equipment, mining gear, and Beale AFB memorabilia all over the place.  Burger, fries, and a drink cost me $9.  I heard that they have bands and branding iron events so I will definitely have to check it out...

Came here with the work crew for lunch!   You walk in and the place looks like? Well what do we have here? A dive bar.  Yes it's a real dive bar!  Dive bar aficionados...this is a place for you!   The food here is very good! The staff and the service here is great!  You can see the food being cooked right in front of you on the grill.  Cookout at its finest!  This place is a real gem!   I will be back to try their steaks next time.

This place is amazing!!! I've been stationed @ Beale AFB for 6 years and just now discovered this place. Me and my wife swung in there during lunch and had grilled chicken sandwiches. The sandwiches tasted so good. The chicken was hot and the tomatoes were fresh and cold. I'd highly recommend checking this place out!

This place served me the best pulled pork BBQ I've ever had, and even my mom agreed. I got the pulled pork with a side salad, unlimited refills with pretty legit salad, and for like a buck fifty you get unlimited iced tea. The place itself is super cute, with wood paneling everywhere it makes you feel like you're eating in a barn (but the kinda that serves amazing food). After trying my pulled pork, the cheese steak sandwich was great but still just didn't compare. Love BBQ? Love Dive Bars? This was made for me!

I have been to bill's place before and had a great time, so I got some friends together and drove them up from Sacramento. The food was great, the people in the bar were nice as always but the bartender "Melissa"Sucked!!!! she was so rude to us. we came in (a group of girls) at about 6 or 7pm so it was not busy at all but for some reason she would not come to are end of the bar one of the bars regulars came down and said hi to us and then walk to the other end of the bar and got the bartender for us so that we could order another round, she demanded that we pay for are drinks before we got them 'Weird' when does that ever happen and my friend ordered a bloody beer and she made it so spicy it was hard to even take a sip of... I liked that bar but I won't be going back there if I can't even get a drink when the bar is dead I cant imagine how it would be if she was busy... will not return when she is bar tending

Bill's Place is this strange anomaly.

It's part country western, and part local "good 'ol boy" culture....yet, on some Friday and Saturday nights, it's like a Sacramento dance club minus the fine women and weird "porno-gazing" sweaty Armenians in silk shirts.

The drinks are made well, but you can tell management eyeballs the pour, as they aren't very strong.  I find most other smaller whole-in-the-wall bars (SEE Red Hill Saloon) are much more liberal with the pour than Bill's Place.  On top of that, the drinks are not peticularly well-priced, including the beer.  Small town bars shouldn't be charging more on Saturday night than on Thursday night for the same beer.  That's a city trick!

What's really great about this place is the food.  The cook isn't all that personable (he's literally cooking right in front of you), but he's usually pretty busy grilling up great food.  The food has definately improved since the ownership change.

I also really enjoy the DJ and kareoke nights.  The guy that ran it a few years ago was good, but this new guy has lots of good songs to sing and he seems to know the crowd.  The big Saturday guy is really good too, and like the other guy, always knows what I like to sing.  The Saturday guy also has a lot of the newest tunes to play when no one is singing.

A few things have gotten worse.  The bartenders since the ownership change have been terrible.  There were 2 bartenders, Ruby and Diana, that were just the best bartenders ever.  The only one that is worth anything now is the weekend night bartender....but be careful, she's more Flo than Alice, and she'll kick your butt.

The other thing is that Wheatland PD case this place big time after midnight  because they have nothing better to do.  Of course, they'll tell you they are "providing a service".  "I'll just walk home" you say?  Don't.  They'll get you for being responsible too.  Just stop drinking at 1130....BAR TIME.

All in all, Bill's Place is a nice bar and grill.  It's dirty jeans, s**tkickers, puffy vests, and trucker caps........it's New York Strip, kickass burgers, and salad bar.......it's tunes, kareoke, and good times with good folks.

Come on down...........................!   Just be careful of the fuzz.

I grew up in wheatland and Bills Place has always been a landmark. People from all over come here to have fun and hang out. its a big tradition at UC Davis, atleas for certain majors.

One thing is since I grew up in Wheatland I usually know just bout everyone in there. but lately douche bags/bros/ roseville/sac people have been coming here "trying to have fun with the simple locals". Thing is many of the locals are more educated than these kids, but we let them have their fun.

Great bar!  I loved it ! Super friendly customers and staff!!! Everyone is nice. And, the bar tenders are always ready to assist... not caught up chatting with their click like many other bars.

As a dive bar enthusiast, Bill's is right at the pinnacle for me.  From the tobacco store Indian (some year's back they removed the "No Liquor Served to Indians sign") to the spurs on the wall to the indoor grill in back serving up cowboy cut steaks (priced by the ounce), Bill's embodies the tradition of the Old West and the agrarian, small town atmosphere that still pervades Wheat-town.

With family in town and a duck club in the area, Bill's is a mainstay for me when I'm up in those parts, particularly during the Fall and Winter.  Contrary to the first poster, I love the karaoke nights.  Of course it might be because I won the first ever karaoke competition they had here.  $100 on the spot that never made it out the bar...but boy, did we enjoy some shots.

Bartenders can be sweet or surly and as drunk as you are, at times.  The service is always good and beers are cheap.

A great place to tie one on, but don't go looking to get lucky...Coyote Ugly is the norm.

This is definitely in my top 5 all-time bars.

Recommended! The best ribs north of Sacramento and very generous portions. Neat setting - antique motif with historic value... an authentic "dive bar"!

ha!  first to review good old Bill's place... a lot of home-sweet-home for me here since I grew up and went to high school about a 10 min drive away, but good to drop by every once in a while:

    Pros:
-old western/cowboy bar with a great atmosphere: lots of old stuff on the walls, pictures of SR-71s, mounted deer and buffalo heads, the perennial wood indian statue that I've remembered since I was a kid, etc. etc.
-small town feeling: I can always count on catching old acquaintances here; for those out of town, a fun find for fri and sat nights
-great food: bbq chicken and the classic steak sandwiches are great... my personal fav. is the salad with crutons and blue cheese!

    Cons:
-remember, you're in wheatland at bill's place, so don't ask for your favorite flavor of mojito or slush cosmo
-dance floor is *very* tiny (but manageable most of the time)
-karaoke night (sat. I believe) is NOT as fun as non-karaoke night (fri?) if you like to dance or if you like to preserve your hearing
