I really hate to write such a negative review, because the people at this place are very nice and I really don't want to give the impression that the wait staff is anything other than helpful, pleasant, and a true joy to be around. Â Additionally, Duplin has some fantastic wines that are worth your time and money investment.
The problem is simple: the food. Â Our party of three ordered 3 different items:
My wife had the only positive reaction in the group to her chicken salad sandwich and pasta salad side. Â She was the only one who didn't end up sick.
My friend ordered the Rueben with a the broccoli soup. Â His initial report on the Rueben was that it didn't taste right. Â He finished the soup. Â An hour later, he was populating the bathroom on a regular basis.
I ordered a salad (no dressing) with grilled chicken. Â The chicken came out tender and warm (if unseasoned). Â The problem was that the rest of the salad was also warm. Â Since it didn't have dressing, instead of sending it back like I should have, I foolishly finished my salad. I also ended up sick to my stomach.
Sadly, because of these infections and this experience, I cannot recommend the restaurant at all.
First visit to the winery and Bistro was today. Â I have to say it was a very nice experience with everyone working there in such a good mood and very excited by what Duplin Wineries has to offer. Â Nice tasting options, you can take a tour or just head straight for the tastings. Â After sampling a few wines we headed over to the Bistro for lunch. Â We were impressed with the selections and the prices were reasonable. Â The Ruben and the Steak and Cheese sandwiches were both a 10. Â We had waffle fries with them but there are a lot of sides to choose from, they were also very good. Â The food was served hot and fast as well. Â Great service and friendly people provided a great experience. Â We will definitely be stopping by on our way to or from the beach.
Review Source:Romantic, rustic, inviting and more! If you're looking for a nice, cozy evening with a date, or even with family, this is the place to go. The reception is warm and the staff very friendly and helpful.
I thoroughly enjoyed my candlelit dinner and wine while listening to live musical performances. Â
Best of all? It's inside the Winery, so you could always stop by for a little wine tasting too!
One of my favorite places in all of ENC is the Bistro at Duplin Winery! It's a little out of the way (for us), but it's well worth it. The food is wonderful, the atmosphere is great and the wine is the best NC has to offer. Their menu includes steaks, seafood (such as grilled salmon and shrimp), some pretty good ribs and some great pastas. They also have lighter fare, such as salads and sandwiches, available for lunch. On the weekends, they often have live music during dinner (you can check the schedule for this - as well as the music in the courtyard on Saturdays - on their website). After dinner, enjoy shopping at the winery gift shop right next door. My wife and I joined the Duplin Winery Heritage Club about a year ago, so we always leave the store with a case of wine, which we are able to purchase at a discount due to being club members. The membership also includes a percentage off all meals at the bistro, discounts at the online store, as well as almost everything in the gift shop.
The winery is a great place for a date with your wife or significant other. Its not fancy, but not too casual. The staff are very helpful in selecting from their various wines - our favorite is the Bald Head Red and the Mother Vine. Check it out one weekend...you won't be disappointed!
