This review is for the newly reopened Black Bart Restaurant ONLY.  I'm not writing about the bar.  Yelp didn't have the restaurant only option.

We went there on the 11th with some friends.  It was shortly after 6PM and we had no problems getting seated.

The menus were presented very quickly and drink orders could have been made at that time.  Our server was quite attentive.

Three ordered the tomato basil soup and 1 a salad.  They came out right away.  The soup was very flavorful and had just the right touch of fresh basil throughout.  The salad was a basic salad but had a ribbon of very thin cucumber surrounding the plate.  It made a cute presentation.  Bread was hot and replaced very quickly when requested.

Three ordered one of the various beef dishes.  The prime rib did not have a separate Au jus.  It was poured on the bottom of the plate but was done as requested. The other 2 beef dishes were unremarkable but as requested.

I ordered the calamari steak dinner.  I requested a baked potato instead of pasta.  I had to return it and request steak.  It was rancid.  I explained that it was cooked quite well.  It was just bad seafood.  I tasted both calamari steaks to be sure.  It is as if they'd been left on the loading dock for too long.  They replaced it with the NY steak.  Half the steak was 1 solid layer of fat and was placed back onto the same plate right over the bad calamari steak sauce.  I'm sure this was a steak that they were not going to serve but palmed it off on me.  It was ruined because of the calamari.  A new and separate plate should have been used.

The baked potatoes were all firm and undercooked.  The mixed vegetables were a mishmash of so many different veggies and were over run buy the very pungent off-putting bean sprouts.

The chef came by and apologized for the calamari being "cooked" wrong.  He said it had some moisture on the top and he didn't wipe it off before cooking.  I told him it was nicely cooked but that it was a spoiled item.  He informed me that it was delivered that morning and that I was wrong.  It would have been nice if he'd tasted it to understand what I was saying.

They didn't have the wine we ordered but we "settled" for something else.  Poor selection for someplace near all those wonderful wineries.  Our server did not know how to serve it.  When I realized she was making a full glass pour, I stopped her so we could do the taste test.  I'm not sure she was even 21.

I was ill overnight.  All in all, if you "must" go there, have the soup and fore-go the meals.  I wish I could give this zero or 1/2 star.

Since Chef Cuneo left, they have not been able to keep this restaurant open.  Unless things improve, I can see it closed in the very near future.
