This review is for the newly reopened Black Bart Restaurant ONLY. Â I'm not writing about the bar. Â Yelp didn't have the restaurant only option.
We went there on the 11th with some friends. Â It was shortly after 6PM and we had no problems getting seated.
The menus were presented very quickly and drink orders could have been made at that time. Â Our server was quite attentive. Â
Three ordered the tomato basil soup and 1 a salad. Â They came out right away. Â The soup was very flavorful and had just the right touch of fresh basil throughout. Â The salad was a basic salad but had a ribbon of very thin cucumber surrounding the plate. Â It made a cute presentation. Â Bread was hot and replaced very quickly when requested.
Three ordered one of the various beef dishes. Â The prime rib did not have a separate Au jus. Â It was poured on the bottom of the plate but was done as requested. The other 2 beef dishes were unremarkable but as requested.
I ordered the calamari steak dinner. Â I requested a baked potato instead of pasta. Â I had to return it and request steak. Â It was rancid. Â I explained that it was cooked quite well. Â It was just bad seafood. Â I tasted both calamari steaks to be sure. Â It is as if they'd been left on the loading dock for too long. Â They replaced it with the NY steak. Â Half the steak was 1 solid layer of fat and was placed back onto the same plate right over the bad calamari steak sauce. Â I'm sure this was a steak that they were not going to serve but palmed it off on me. Â It was ruined because of the calamari. Â A new and separate plate should have been used.
The baked potatoes were all firm and undercooked. Â The mixed vegetables were a mishmash of so many different veggies and were over run buy the very pungent off-putting bean sprouts. Â
The chef came by and apologized for the calamari being "cooked" wrong. Â He said it had some moisture on the top and he didn't wipe it off before cooking. Â I told him it was nicely cooked but that it was a spoiled item. Â He informed me that it was delivered that morning and that I was wrong. Â It would have been nice if he'd tasted it to understand what I was saying.
They didn't have the wine we ordered but we "settled" for something else. Â Poor selection for someplace near all those wonderful wineries. Â Our server did not know how to serve it. Â When I realized she was making a full glass pour, I stopped her so we could do the taste test. Â I'm not sure she was even 21.
I was ill overnight. Â All in all, if you "must" go there, have the soup and fore-go the meals. Â I wish I could give this zero or 1/2 star.
Since Chef Cuneo left, they have not been able to keep this restaurant open. Â Unless things improve, I can see it closed in the very near future.
