The vibe is casual & friendly. Â No, very casual and very friendly. Â It permeates this place, and transmits from owners to patrons. Â The beer selection is excellent and the bartender (who is also the owner Jay when I have been there) will make recommendations, remembers names, and makes great small talk. There are delicious, local fresh roasted peanuts. Â The only strike is that it has no food, but they are pretty transparent that they are not a restaurant. The bar is named after the owners' actual black dog, who is named Otis and will plays ball. It's a place you can drink, swear, and have a great time. May not be for everyone, but perfect in my book.
Review Source:Cool Cigar Bar. CASH ONLY!! Lots of different beer selections. You can hang out inside or on the front or back deck. You can play a game of Chess, Darts, or Cornhole while you hang out. It was completely empty both nights we went (Fri-Sat), so we had the entire bar to ourselves. I think if they want more people here, maybe offer some type of live music, even if it was just a one man show.
Review Source:By far the coolest place in Cedar Key! Â We really enjoyed hanging with owners Jay and Connie with their dog Otis. Â Awesome sangria, microbrews, wines, cigars, and atmosphere. Â No food, pick up something before you come in (avoid Seabreeze next door). Â Bring cash or check (common practice in this area).
Review Source:We visited over the summer and had a great time. The beer selection is amazing and the owner was a lot of fun to talk to. The vibe in Cedar Key is VERY laid back...and you almost feel like you are stepping back in time, but folks are not as friendly as you may expect. It feels like a town that is having to rely on tourism to help their economy but resenting every minute of it.
The Black Dog was definitely the best part of our vacation.
Black Dog is doing it exactly right in all the ways that matter. Â Great beer selection - pick out your beer and take it up to the bar for a clean chilled glass. Â Delicious Sangria, plenty of wines in sparkling clean glasses. Â Peanuts to munch on. Â Unique sitting areas, large outdoor patio/deck areas, darts and a few board games. Â Great spot.
Review Source:I didn't expect to find a place this cool in Cedar Key. Â They have an amazing beer select of over 150 different craft beers. Â You get to go to the cooler and select what you want so there is no pressure if you want to take your time. Â They also have a nice wine selection.
When we went no one was smoking so that made the visit much more enjoyable. Â The atmosphere is very relaxing as they have couches and tvs with windows to separate the areas. Â They also have free meatballs in the crockpot to enjoy and peanuts.
This is hands down the best night life spot in the area. Â They don't take credit cards but do take cash and checks.
We were visiting Cedar Key recently and BDBT was our go to hang out spot. Â
Friendly staff and manger. Â Enjoyed the beer and peanuts sitting on the deck outside, great view of the Gulf. Â The beer, extensive selection, is displayed in coolers and you can just grab what you want and let the staff know to put it on your tab. Â At night, they had a great two piece band and my husband enjoyed a nice cigar. Â
Finally, totally dog friendly in every respect.
This is a nice place to stop when in Cedar Key, even more so when you are there during the hot summer months.
They have a huge selection of, they claim, 99 beers and a great wine list also. Â The staff is always friendly. Â The have games you can play such as chess or just sit out on the back deck and stare out at the water.
They also offer live music from time to time.
Black Dog Bar and Tables needs to be at the top of your list when you visit Cedar Key! Â From the excellent beers (and amazing selection) to fabulous wines - by the glass - BDBT offers great hosts including Otis, the Black Dog. This is our favorite bar in Cedar Key and we've been visiting Cedar Key since 1997. No one has come close to the ambiance and great libations. Check it out for yourself next time you visit cedar key!
Review Source:I had never been to Cedar Key and my boss had recommended another bar but only because they play nonstop Jimmy Buffet. So after realizing they only had domestics and their best beer was Landshark (owned by Jimmy Buffet), we drank 1 down and continued our recon of this quaint gulf front town. We walked up to Black Dog, saw the sign that read "70 beers", and attacked. I'm from Miami and have been to some really cool bars around the world and this is one of them. The interior has an old dentist chair, leather couches, a jukebox and Ms. Pac-Man! They have their beers in packs all around, like a store, so you can see what you might want. They also have a long menu of just beers. I found my new favorite beer, Buffalo Bill's Orange Blossom. I had never had it but I'm on the ocean, why not? Black Dog is family owned and EVERYONE that worked there was awesome. They all made sure we were ok, brought us peanuts and made conversation. I kinda felt like I was at the house of a friends' parents. They also sell cigars, which they'll help you pick, and you can actually smoke inside. Â I can't wait to go back!
