Nice location on a back road near the Blackwater River. Rustic decor is well done. The one time I went for lunch the food and service were average. Grouper sandwich and Reuben had no memorable qualities. I'd like to go again, but nothing is rushing me back except maybe the $1 pint beer specials.

I ate there last night and it was my first time at this establishment. I really like the layout of the building and the decor and historic feeling to the place. I like the outdoor seating as well. We were seated promptly and drink orders were taken quickly however it took a longer than expected to get the drinks. It looked like there was only one waitress for the entire place, she however did an amazing job considering how many people were at the restaurant. I ordered the Beef Wellington by recommendation of a friend and I was amazed at the flavor. It was a little pricy by well worth every dollar. I would definitely eat here again and again. The only thing I didn't like about the place and its very minor and most people probably wouldn't care, but the bathroom looked very well done and a lot of money and thought put into it but the latch on the bathroom stall was a very cheap latch and hook. I just felt that didn't match with the rest of the restaurant which was very well done. I look forward to trying more from this restaurant.

I haven't had very good experiences here. The service is a hit or miss (more misses than hits) and I feel that the food is a tad overpriced for what you get. I once ordered a chicken salad sandwich at lunch and it came out on stale bread. Like, really stale. I couldn't believe they would've served that, but when I let them know, they brought me a new sandwich on fresh, soft bread. My boyfriend loves the crab cakes here so I guess I'll keep trying. If you're a cheapskate like me, you won't like this; they charge a dollar for water.

Love Blackwater Bistro. I think they have the best Shrimp and Gouda Grits in the Pensacola area, and yes, I have been to the Fish House. This restaurant has an eclectic menu with delicious food no matter what you choose.

The Blackwater Bistro is a unique and grand find tucked away in Milton. The BB is located next to the Blackwater River Riverwalk in downtown Milton. Ambiance - A, Food - A, service - A.

Menu is pretty varied, several brews on tap and a wine list; whats not to love?

Had the Beef Wellington tonight (something I hadn't planned on seeing on the menu) and it was spot on! Tasted awesome. Artichoke Cheescake appetizer was tasty as well.

Military discount on Wed nights. (Why only Wed night guys?)

I think it would be worth a trip from Pensacola and surrounding areas to visit.

absolutely amazing! We ate on a Friday night. The music was fabulous on the patio and the food was even better. We had the spinach artichoke cheesecake to start. I have got to figure out how to make this. For dinner, my husband had the shrimp and grits. He said it was one of the best dishes he had ever had. Finished with pear cobbler! delicious! Loved everything about the restaurant. The food had amazing flavor, especially compared to the places we've eaten at in town. My 18 month old had a blast dancing to the music and cried when the appetizer was gone.

Milton was in need of the Blackwater Bistro. I grew up in Milton and we almost always had to leave town for a nice dinner; now there is a local place with good atmosphere and food. They have a nice little bar and outdoor seating for those days when the humidity doesn't preclude eating outside. The food was very good (I had shrimp and grits) and portions were generous. My son barely took a breath while eating his burger and after cleaning his plate of food said "that was awesome." I also appreciated their very obvious support of the U.S. Armed Forces. This will be my new staple when I am in town.

Lots of positive reviews so we figured we'd try it. One review mentioned the Hummus was bland. Others liked it. Though the presentation was awesome, served in little balls with balsamic glaze, feta cheese and some sun dried tomatoes. Potential was there, but actually the hummus itself was bland. I wanted the Shrimp and grits but didn't want the bacon and spinach. It was already mixed in (why?) so I got a portobello, goat cheese and onion pizza. Mushrooms were hard to find and pretty bland. Other items at the table were Chicken Cordon Blue and Apricot glazed. Salmon. Both tasty, but over cooked and dried out. Lima beans were dead on if you like those. Be warned, water is 50 cents. Saw a home made peach cobbler go out so figured we would have to try one after we found out it was home made this morning. Again, disappointing. Very doughy and the peaches were too scarce. The highlight was the Live Music. Simple soft singing with a couple of guitars and nice voices, not too loud, but loud enough. Best advice... skip it. 3 adults, no alcohol, one app and one dessert = $75 before tip. Not worth it. PS The waitress was extremely attentive. Never had an empty glass. Was there and anticipated our needs.

Awesome place and their motto says it all - they are truly a nice small, family type restaurant with a great taste. Very military friendly. Probably the one nice restaurant in Milton, FL. Live bands out on the porch provides some nice entertainment.

Try the shrimp and grits - tasty!

Good beer and wine selection. They serve everything from pizza to steak. Cozy bar area and music on Thursday thru Friday that doesn't overcome your conversation. Staff is experienced and "knows" the food they serve. It's worth coming off of I-10 for.

Favorite place to eat in Milton. Great environment, great food. Order the "Civil War" to drink.

Ambiance and atmosphere were excellent, decor was quite nice but the quality of the food lacked. The food was definitely not worth the price. The hummus we ordered was bland, the pita bread was cold, the green olives in my italian sandwich was so overpowering and salty I could barely eat it.

Wednesdays is Military Appriciation Day. They have REAL Draft beers for $1 all day long if you have a military ID. (Abita, Pensacola Bay Brewery, etc...) Sitting on the porch at night is awesome and their waitstaff on Wendesdays are entertaining. I guess this place is starting to work for me!

During the 9 hour drive from New Orleans to Orlando, we were trying to find a good lunch spot off of I-10 in Pensacola. We were a bit slow on the search and missed the last city exit. We pulled off near Milton and read a few reviews.

We made the treck up to Milton after deciding on Blakwater Bistro. We were a bit nervous about what we were going to find as we were driving... Then we pulled into the quaint historic town. Well worth the short side trip! The restaurant is a bit tucked back. Took us a second attempt to find it. Great atmosphere in what appeared to be a historic home. Server (Nick) was great and the food was fresh and delicious!

Lots of local diners during their lunch hour! Great spot!

After the wife and I heard people talk of this place, we decided to check it out for ourselves. The waiter was wonderful and attentive. The food was hot and out very quick. I ordered the full rack of ribs, smashed potatoes, and broccoli. My wife had something else and it slips my mind. Never once did my glass of water go empty. The food was every bit as tasty as we had heard. The final good point is I'm pretty certain that busted up propeller out front is from that dingbat that tried to fake his death, and his Piper aircraft crashed nearby. It's definitely worth the trip and stop to check out!

BEST Chicken Pot Pie EVER!!! I want one just writting about it...
Too bad I live 500 miles away.

I was in town over the weekend with my family and we went there for a late lunch to celebrate my sister in law's college graduation.

They sat us in our own private room that help all 15 of us.
The waitress was very friendly and attentive and had great recommendations.

The artichoke cheesecake appetizer was so yummy...I didnt expect to like it but I did. Definitley worth getting.
And I ordered the chicken pot pie for my meal and it was the best I have ever had...and I have had A LOT! The pastry on top was fluffy and light and the cream and mixed veggies with huge chunks of chicken was delicious. It was so filling though...I could only eat half.
I had a cup of Tomato Basil soup and it was good, but thick and filling, so I really wished I had not gotten that. Then I probably could have eaten more of my chicken pot pie!
Everyone loved what they ordered...apparently the chicken salad is one of the most popular items on the menu. They have a little bit of everthing...soups, salads, sandwhiches, wraps and hot meals. One person got the meatloaf and said it was the best he had ever had...

This restaurant is in historic downtown Milton in a cute, old house with a wrap around front porch, so there is outdoor seating.

I will never forget this cute little place for 2 reasons- the food is awesome and I found out my brother and sis-n-law are expecting their first baby! :)
Next time I am in the Pensacola/Pace/MIlton area this will be my #1 choice for lunch/dinner!

The Blackwater Bistro
Milton, FL
$8.95 Cheeseburger
Final Score: 6.65

The Blackwater Bistro; it's charming, historic and quaint. Everything on the menu sounds delicious. Some doubted whether upscale dining could possibly exist in Milton, Florida- and for those skeptics- the answer is YES, it can, and does.

Having said that, let me deliver the bad news: A charming, upscale Bistro isn't exactly where you'd expect to find "The Perfect Burger." Unfortunately on this visit, we didn't.

The Blackwater Burger is a 1/2 lb. patty served with the freshest produce, on a soft untoasted bun. The patty was accused by many of being "under-seasoned" and "too dense" by one Panel Member. The topic of density brought about an interesting conversation amongst the Panel Members: There's no doubt that the beef used in this patty is of the highest quality- and much to it's own downfall- very lean. We suspect that the burger was patted too firmly during the shaping stages- and thus became very dense. Couple that with the exceptionally lean meat- and you're eating one dry burger.

Now, some of you treadmill tri-athletes might enjoy eating the burger I've just described. It's lean, not greasy, topped with fresh produce- and leaves you feeling relatively healthy afterward. When finished with the Blackwater Burger- you don't feel as if you've overeaten or stuffed yourself. The problem is; it lacks taste- and quite frankly- we enjoy overeating.

You see; Lawyers, Politicians, and chic trend setters will all fit in nicely at the Blackwater Bistro. The one thing that doesn't "fit in" here: is grease- and honestly- this burger could have used some. It would have added some flavor to the under-seasoned patty, and kept the burger from being so darn dry.

In all the burger finished with a 6.65, and while each Panel Member agreed that they would highly recommend dining at the Blackwater Bistro- they also pointed out that on their next visit- they would not be ordering the burger.

So, if you're taking the wife out for a night on the town in Historic Downtown Milton- visit the Blackwater Bistro- if you're searching for the best burger in our area- join us next week as the Burger Tour.....rolls on. http://www.nwflburgertou…

Upscale dining in Milton- yay!
We have been here twice and have been very impressed both times. The first time we went for dinner and I had the Black and Blue burger. Yummmmy. I love bleu cheese- the more the merrier. Hubby had the pork chop special and it was very good. The menu is superb. Fantastic comfort food with a twist. The meatloaf looked yummy, I think there was a mac and cheese dish that also looked good. I would have ordered everything on the menu- all of the food looked that appetizing. Not a huge menu, but a great variety.

We went back for lunch the other day and the chicken salad was very good. The lobster bisque was perfect- creamy and a distinct lobster flavor. No big chunks, but I didn't miss them. Hubby ordered the GASP (garlic, artichoke, sun-dried tomato and pesto) pizza. Holy cow, the toppings on this rocked. The crust needed a tad bit of work. I would have liked it thinner or cooked more for a nice crispy crust. It was a bit doughy. Maybe we can order it with a crispy crust- we'll try that next time.

We had wine the first time and their selection is good. I was very happy with my red (can't remember what I ordered) and hubby got a white that was also very good.

Our service both times has been a bit slow... don't come here if you are in a hurry. The service has been good besides that.

We will definitely be back again for dinner. The menu choices are so tempting!
