This isn't restaurant-quality food. I ordered a burrito and the sauce obviously came out of a can - the same kind you can buy at the store. The rice came from a box - again like the kind you get at the store. It's also more expensive than much better meals elsewhere.
The beer must be the main draw because the place was fairly crowded. I was driving that night so I can't attest.
Food was ok but service was disgusting. The entrees came out right after the chips and dips appetizer ($10). The girl that brought our food couldn't care less - she just spun around and left. Of course our waiter wasn't around and didn't come back till we were almost done. Â So basically we wasted a $10 appetizer so we could eat our entree while it was still hot. I can't believe how little interest the staff had in providing at least a modicum of customer service. We won't be back!
Review Source:This place is solid. Â I had tortilla soup and the chips and dips; both were very good. Â Prices were fairly standard for this type of restaurant (about $5 for a bowl of soup, $10 for the appetizer). Â The waitress was great and even gave my niece a free root beer because she accidentally poured an extra one. Â I will eat here again if I am ever in Santa Fe.
Review Source:I ordered the Fish and Chips with the belief I ordered from the lunch menu, since this was the page that was presented to us when we were handed the menu. Most restaurants do not serve lunch at 2.30pm but I thought that every place has their own way of doing things. The lunch price for the Fish and Chips was $10.50, but when we were presented the bill we were billed for the regular price, which is $12.50. I asked the waiter about this and he said he was sorry but made no effort to please me. It was just $2, plus I ordered water and there wasn't anything wrong with what I got so I decided not to make a big deal out of it. If you are out for Fish and Chips, I can recommend this place.
My wife ordered a side salad with a cilantro vinaigrette on the side. She got a lot of "leaf material" but I am sad to say that it did not look fresh nor did it taste fresh. This was aside from the two tomato slices which both looked and tasted delicious. The salad looked as if it once had been bagged and unfortunately, this seems to be the standard in Santa Fe regardless of where you are going in the $$ price range. She also ordered a Green Chile stew, which was ok. She said the chile masked the other ingredients a lot but I think she enjoyed it (more than the side salad I think).
The staff was nice but I am sad to say not very caring. This is exemplified through the way he took my complaint about the price. Even though $2 is not a big deal the lower price is what was presented to me and I would expect to see that on the bill.
The Cerillos location maybe isn't the best either. I have been to both this one and to the one in downtown Santa Fe and you really get more atmosphere and more of a quaint feeling at the downtown location. Would I go here again? Yes, I would. Would I order the same thing again? Yes, I probably would. Would I look twice at the menu to figure out if I am getting a high or a lower price? I definitely would.
A fun thing is that they also feature drinks based of the very local (to this location) Santa Fe distillery. If you are in town to try out local spirits, this might be something for you!
I have more often visited the downtown location and appreciate the cleanliness and appealing ambiance and feel there are some good food items and beers that are worth returning for. For some reason, in my one visit here, I didn't get the same feel.
My waitress was slow to appear and made herself scarce after giving me my burger and beer. Also, the burger, despite being rubbed in red chile, was quite bland and overcooked and overall a disappointment.
I do enjoy most of the beers here and like the flat-screen tvs and sports bar arrangment, so overall, this place is worth returning too, but I can't vouch for the food.
I've been going to Blue Corn Brewery since the late 1990's. The owner is the same now as it was back then. Of course staff has changed, but the menu hasn't changed much. Me and my son order the Nachos de la Casa each time we go with chicken and jalapenos on the side. Ive had their crab dip, their cobb salad to name just a few and the food is always good and always consistent. The service is good and the atmosphere is top-drawer. I recommend this place highly.
Review Source:Good local food with attentive service. I don't much like the breweries that only serve their own beers, but my waitress was informative and steered me right toward a beer similar to Shiner Bock. If you're looking for something different from the chain restaurants, this is the place to go!
Review Source:Arrived in Santa Fe on a Friday evening and asked the hotel desk where to eat that was close: Applebee's or Blue Corn Brewery. Â Checked the menu on line and it looked good. Â
The cafe was very busy but we were seated on the patio immediately. Â Unfortunately, that was the last good thing that happened. Â Our server was stretched too thin: Â He apologized for not being attentive, but it took too long to order, get our meals, bring the check, no water refills, etc.
We ordered two "specialties": Â grilled steak, trout, and two glasses of wine. Â My wine was a Rancho Zabaco Zin; an under $15 bottle in a grocery store. Â The pour was barely 4 oz. Â You do the math - they were getting six glasses out of a bottle and charging $7/glass. Â I understand doubling the price in a restaurant, but please. Â I know they're specializing in beer, but not everyone wants to drink beer with their trout or steak.
Although the steak and trout were quite good, the grilled veggies were swimming in oil/grease. Â Smashed potatoes and corn fritters were so-so. Â These were $15.99 single plate meals. Â Relatively inexpensive in a good restaurant, but not so in a brew pub.
In hindsight, it was probably a mistake to order entrees that require a bit of extra care during such a busy evening. Â Just know that the kitchen and wait staff may not be able to give you what you're paying for on a busy Friday night.
O.K. I have to say that I'm a fan, but DON'T get the fish and chips. Â My husband....why does he insist on getting seafood at a New Mexican food establishment? Â Anyway, it was bland and soggy. Accompanied by bland coleslaw and soggy french fries. Â He hated my drink--Mint Bourbon--and I hated his--Watermelon Long Island Tea. Â He said mine was too minty and bourbony, and I say that his was TOO sweet!!! Â Loved the chicken enchilada and chicken blue corn taco.
Review Source:We were headed to a show at Santa Fe Sol and wanted to try some local beers before hand, so we were pleased that Blue Corn Brewery was only a few miles away. Â
The double IPA was great. Â I was surprised that there was a limit of 2, as it only had 8% ABV. Â In Denver you're allowed to order as many DIPAs as you want, no questions asked. Regardless, it was on par with other full-bodied DIPAs. Â Hoppy and flavorful.
I got the Farmer's Market Salad for dinner and it might have been the freshest salad I've ever had. Â It was tossed in a Pinon vinaigrette, which I was hoping wouldn't overpower the salad, and it didn't. Â They only use veggies that are all local and in-season, which is awesome. Â Mine had lots of purple and green broccoflower, cucumbers, and radishes- sooo delicious. Â I added the grilled steak to it and it was perfectly done.
Great place for lunch--we didn't try the brews. We had blue corn tortillas with "calabacitas" which is zucchini. The flavor never let up, fresh and delicious. I may never have meat in a taco ever again. It was that good. Â The beans and rice side wasn't bad either. One of our party had enchiladas with green chili and pronounced them excellent. The beverages are very good--there is an ice tea spiked (pun intended) with prickly pear cactus fruit. This gives it a slightly watermelony-peachy taste and you don't need sweetener. There is home brewed root beer as well. The lunch specials are well priced and our service was cheerful and attentive; my tea glass was kept full. The food was hot. We were quite pleased.
Review Source:Blue Corn Cafe is my go to place for a cold margarita in Santa Fe. You have your choice of the many and various tequilas gold or silver and you don't have to specify on the rocks. A bowl of the grilled corn and chipotle soup is a must. I was most impressed with the tamale in my green chili cheese combo. It was the best tamale I've had to date. Sadly, the sopapillas were not as great. Too big, one was too greasy and the other undercooked.
Review Source:We've been going to the Blue Corn since it opened. Â In fact, we even celebrated an occasion there with fifteen guests once.
The Blue Corn has never offered what I consider to be delicious food, but it wasn't bad for most of these years.
Last night however was the final visit for us.
Our take-out from the Blue Corn was easily the greasiest meal ever presented to me in my entire life (and I've eaten many fast food meals so I do have a large frame of reference). Â
We could even SEE pools of oil in my husband's meal.
I ate about half of mine because I was starving; today I feel a layer of fat between my normal fat and my skin. Â It feels awful.
If you are seated and get a blonde waitress named Randi just leave!  If she says, "there was a picture of our green chile cheeseburger in SOME magazine" do NOT order it!  Trust me, RANDI and the  cheeseburger will disappoint you!  This is the 2nd time in my life i have left $0.00 tip and i'm pushing 60.

Phoenix, az
Blue Corn-Plaza location......this place has been consistently HOT, HOT, HOT!  Do not come here unless you are ready for hot spicy food.  The beers are always good and the sangria's.  Whenever we are in Santa Fe we always stop here for the  grilled corn & chipotle soup and the green chili stew.  Come early so you get hot soup/stew ....we got there late and it was warm...had to send it back.  Our waiter David was awesome!!!  The food here has always been great....which is why we always recommend to friends and family.  Ask for David in the Plaza location.
Review Source:Nice place with a fun, low-key atmosphere. I have always been a fan of breweries, and this one is great. I enjoyed their 24K wheat beer, but the selection is a treat to browse.
A word of caution: the food is spicy! I'm not big on spice, so I kept drinking water to keep the heat down. If, however, you're a fan of spicy treats, you'll be in hog heaven.
The servers are polite, fun, and knowledgeable. I definitely recommend stopping by the Blue Corn Cafe.
Stopped by here twice for drinks, beer and football.
Good service and decent food.
Large variety of food available along with 5 TV's in the bar area.
Portions were big and the hand crafted beer was great.
Drinks were a little on the weak side one day but good the other.
If you are looking for a good sports bar in Santa Fe try them.
This used to be a great place for food and good fun, but the menu has taken a dive recently and the atmosphere feels dated and confused. With an ample bar area and several large screen TVs you'd think it was a sports bar. However just on the other side of the restaurant there is a dining area, for those of you who find football/UFC to be something for children or those with brain damage.
And never the twain shall meet! because if you're enjoying you're football or fighting and you've had a pint or two then you tend to get rowdy and shout at the TV, who doesn't ?! But you can't truly enjoy it because all the people in the dining area give you dirty looks for screaming "Crush his ****ing skull!" or something else that resembles enjoying yourself.
The same goes for the people in the dining room, i'll tell you right now, if you have kids don't go there on a night when there's a football game unless you want them to receive an AP class in bilingual cussing. During the off season it's not as bad, but there always seems to be, "that one guy" who just won't shut the hell up, and you realize that you're paying to sit and listen to some idiot droll on about "I coulda caught that pass in college" instead of being able to listen to your wife/husband/friend/child/grandma or whoever.
Santa Fe is a growing place for micro brews, and what is so often the case in Santa Fe, the owners of Blue Corn are relying on the fact that people in New Mexico drink way too much, and then order their food. Which is why Blue Corn can get away with sub par fare. This is not to say that the restaurant is dirty or the service is bad, its all just mediocre. It's as if the staff looked at everything on the menu and said, "that'll do".
Once upon a time, Blue Corn was the only place on that side of town to get something to eat that wasn't exclusively mexican, but that's changed. There are more options in that area now and if Blue Corn wants to continue to attract customers they need to rethink their menu and start trying some new stuff because "that'll do" just wont cut it.
Fours were granted before we got through the door. Â Red, green or Christmas, 12 months a year. Â
This is a brew pub/restaurant. Â It's all about sampling, warm and fuzzy camaderie and food. Â I can't address the brew part. Â This is a comfortable place for warm, fuzzy camaderie. Â My New Mexico host, hearing about my Yelp*ing habits, gave it a 4 in the parking lot.
While we enjoyed our camaraderie, I ordered chiles relleno. Â New Mexico green chile stuffed with local homemade goat cheese, dipped in batter and deep fried. Â These vary region to region. Â I like mine light and fluffy thickly batterered. Â Everything came out plated nicely. Â I never put That in notes, so it was nice looking. Â Mine were moderately New Mexico hot. Â The cheese was fine. Â But somewhere along the line, maybe in the reheating/cheese melting mine got a crust of blackened batter and cheese on the stem ends. Â Really tough and chewey, some inedible. Â The rice and beans were very good. Â Beans regular tasting, not spiced, and the rice with the New Mexican flavor I love, flavors I can't place yet. Â Very good. Â
A five for hospitality and hanging out, a three for the food. Â
Red and green refer to chile. Â Christmas is a clever combination of both.
I'll try again another time.
I'm always a fan of brew-pub/restaurants, and this place is pretty good. It's a nice space to eat or hang out in, the service is good, the food is good and the beers are decent.
For someone who travels a lot, it's always nice to see an establishment like this because it means you don't have to end up at some chain restaurant that has predictable options. Brew-pubs are especially cool because that means you get to try a hyper-local beer. Although places like this often produce less-than-inspiring brews, every now and then you find a jewel, and that makes it fun.
I got the cobb salad which proved to be more than enough of a meal with chicken and bacon and cheese and a bunch of other things that probably negate any possible benefits of eating a salad. It was good, though not great. I enjoyed almost the whole bowl.
The beer is cool, but again not amazing. I do like that they provide such a large variety compared to similar restaurants. I tried the nut brown ale and it more or less tasted a hybrid of Newcastle and Smithwick's. My coworker tried the stout and said it bore some resemblance to Guinness.
Either way, if you're in the neighborhood, this place is definitely worth a try.
I used to live very near Santa Fe and I ate here frequently. Â Contrary to many of the reviews, I thought they consistently offered higher quality food and better service than most of the other restaurants in town, including the ones which are more than twice as expensive.
Perhaps this is because I ordered the dishes which made them famous? Â Their Grilled Corn & Chipolte Soup is so good that I actually bought a cookbook from them so I could make it at home. Â Their Green Chili Stew and Green Chili & Cheese Tamales are also extremely good. Â More importantly, I would say hands down they have the best Carne Adovada I've ever had, which says a lot as I make it myself and have had it in restaurants all over New Mexico and Colorado. Â Couple this with excellent beer and an nice drink menu and I would say that this is a place you should visit while in Santa Fe. Â
On a final note: Â After moving back to Colorado I discovered I had misplaced my Blue Corn Cafe cookbook. Â I miss their food so much that I ordered another one online. Â I'm looking forward to making their carne adovada.
Wanted to post twice but yelp wouldn't let me. Â
Five Stars: Â Went here the night of 12/6 with a party of 12+ people. Â The food was great, the server was great, etc. Â Thought that was their standard.
Zero Stars: Â Went back on 12/19 for lunch because of the positive experience on the 6th. Â Food was still great. Â Ordered 2 waters since I drink a lot of water and didn't want the server to have to run to keep it filled up. Â Got 1 water. Â Took forever for a refill. Â Tried to help him out up front but... Â Asked for refill and a beer. Â They are a brewery. Â 20 minutes later asked for the beer again. Â He forgot. Â Realized he hadn't brought the appetizer, Chips and Salsa and Queso. Â Brought the chips and salsa. Â No queso. Â Still no beer. Â Finally, the beer. Â We decided the queso was not coming. Â Ate the food, which was great, and left. Â Server was horrible. Â I hope you don't get the same one we had this time.
Beer: Fair to Good
Food: Good
Here's the deal with the Blue Corn's food: It's a lot like a chain restaurant, in that they cook their food exactly the same at both locations. I believe that the owners had some plans to expand the restaurant. That would explain the food's mediocrity.
What I do like about Blue Corn is that it's possible to eat semi-heatlhy. Their fajitas are nice in that they do not come out swimming in a vat of grease like most other places. The blue corn enchiladas are decent as well.
I really wish the brewmaster would experiment and take more risks with the usual beers. There is typically a special brew available and those are usually very good. If they still have any left, I recommend trying them. They are delicious.
Avoid this place on Monday nights during football season as the bar is extremely loud. So loud, in fact, that even the back of the restaurant is not safe from all the war hoots.
I had interesting service at the bar and tried 2 beers, the Lokal Weizein and the Gold Medal Oatmeal Stout.
The Lokal was fine, not great and the Oatmeal was pretty good. Â I would have liked them colder, especially the Lokal...it was hardly cold.
The bartender picked up my drinks for some reason which was a nice surprise and garnered a nice tip...
Great IPA and my family of 3 had meals that were excellent. Â My Chili Rellenos were tasty and the pinto beans were spicy and homemade -- still BEANS instead of that canned pasty stuff! Â My husband had some pork green chili that we all ended up sharing -- it was so good. Â Just spicy enough to get the tear ducts working but not painfully spicy. Â Our son had steak Fajitas with fresh tortillas - a big portion - and he ate every last bite. Â We will come back to the Blue Corn Cafe the next time we are in Santa Fe!
Review Source:Went here for the first time earlier this week while waiting for our tires to get rotated. We had:
IPA- AWESOME- lots of cascade hops makes this IPA floral on the front end and smooth drinking on the finish- next time I'm going to get a growler of this one for $8- great deal for 4 pints
Brown- good drinking beer, solid and malty
Stout- hubby reported same as above, good, not great
We also had Guacamole, a spinach salad (overdressed, darn it I always forget to tell them to put it on the side), chili rellenos, and a quesadilla for little girl Bella- These were average fare, generous portions. Total bill with 20% tip was $52, which is a good deal for that much food.
Kudos to the hostess for getting us a highchair quickly- we sat in the bar so our toddler wouldn't be interrupting meals and that worked out great. The bar was clean and spacious.
They have the Eagles and Dallas game this Sunday night, I think we will be back here soon.
In the words of a notable former NetJets pilot, "It is what it is."
The Blue Corn Cafe and Brewery is located near the hotel that I was staying at. Its close proximity made it worth a try. The first thing I noticed was the highly polished copper bar. Very cool. First order of business was to order a pint of the bitter. I had the IPA and my partner went with the stout. I must admit that the IPA was pretty good. Not too hoppy as some brewers tend to make their IPAs. My buddy liked his stout as well.
We ordered some guacamole  and chips to start. Frankly, the guacamole sucked. The avocado  was fresh enough, but the recipe was lacking in everything else. The salsa that it came with was just ok.
I had the Carne Adovada which is a simmered pork dish. It was actually pretty tasty. The one down side was that the corn tortilla they brought me were old and stale. They did however, take them back and bring me some fresh ones when I sounded them about it.
It wasn't great, but it was good enough to go back again sometime.
This place still kinda sucks after all these years. I mean, the food is totally edible, it's just that there are SOOOO many better places to eat in Santa Fe. I will state that the green chile was nice and hot when I went last a few weeks ago. They do brew some decent beers and I will give them that too. I just can't imagine choosing Blue Corn instead of La Choza, Posas, The Burrito Spot, Tia Sophias...and on and on. I suppose the convenient location of NOT being downtown is a plus, but you still have to eat the food.
Long story long, if you are going to eat at ANY Blue Corn, eat at this Blue Corn instead of the one in Plaza Mercado because if you are downtown, you really have no excuse to eat this lame New Mexican food.
