1/2 bushel of crab & each one had so much dirt & sand IN them - inedible. A bit of grit is understandable, but not huge clumps of sand! Chose steamed prior to shipping, but would've thought better of it if I knew they wouldn't be cleaned. I spent over $120 for 5 lbs. of crab we couldn't even eat!
Review Source:I received a local deal for $55 for the crab cake feast. Â I have no problem with the fedex shipping, it was thankfully included. Â They also did let me use the expired deal (expired by 10 days) but changed it from the feast which was to be 7- 5 to 7 oz crab cakes, etc. to their special which was 5 crab cakes and 7-12 steamed shrimp, I just had to pay the extra $30 on that special. Â So $85 spent and I did get my seafood but the numbers were OFF, the crab cakes are 4 oz. each, the shrimp was overcooked and chewy and I don't even have enough to use for my dinner party. Â I'd have been better off spending it at my local seafood store. Â Lesson learned.
Review Source:Blue crab trading would not even receive a star from me!!! I do not usually post reviews but this ruined my Christmas dinner party.
I wanted to leave this as a testimonial but it would not post.... BEWARE OF TERRIBLE SERVICE~~~!!!!
I would love to make a testimonial about how your company ruined my Christmas party dinner that I had planned on the 22nd of December. Â I received a phone call from your company telling me that there was a delay in my shipment due to a mix up on your end. My shipment was delayed by a day and I would receive my shipment on Saturday instead of the expected Friday delivery. Â As I waited and became nervous about my shipment not arriving, I frantically called and emailed. Â I thought I would have received a phone call in advance if there were any more problems with my delivery but did not receive one. Â My dinner party had to be cancelled and we ended up going out to a restaurant instead. I was embarassed and very upset. I did not recieve a phone call the next business day... I had to call and had my coupon code reactivated for a refund via livingsocial. Ironically, two business days after my last phone call with your company, I got a phone call back about this issue. Worst service ever and would never suggest to others. Â
Terrible, terrible, terrible and a waste of time....
Like reviewer Jefferson, I also took advantage of a Groupon Offer... $40 at a cost of $19. Needless to say the terms aren't very clear... while it does say shipping not included, you figure that the shipping costs would be reasonable and that they would still come off the final total... I just couldn't get as much product to account for the shipping. It also makes a vague mention of "packaging costs".
So I go to the website and start shopping... their prices are certainly on the high side of market price but, okay, they are supposed to be a Mom and Pop operation who sells freshness. So I throw some things in my cart and check my running total... $46+ worth of product is going to cost $99.00!!! Shipping is $39.00 and the "packaging cost" is another $13.00!!... so even taking off my $40 Groupon offer, I still have to pay almost $59.00 ( and we can't forget the original $19.00 I paid for the Groupon)... so approx $80.00 for 2 doz clams, 2 lbs of crawfish, a clam knife and a tub of seafood seasoning. Â
So I thought to myself that the shipping is so high because it takes special packaging and needs speedy shipping due to it being spoilable seafood. So I decide I will forgo the seafood and go for other products. So I empty my cart and start again, filling it with shelf stable items like batter mixes, seasoning, clam knife etc... stuff that could just be tossed in a box and sent by slow boat without any health hazard. Well lo and behold, the same packaging and shipping costs are applied... there is no option for anything other than overnight shipping and the packaging cost is a flat fee. And if you try to reduce the cost they just deduct it from the value of your Groupon... if you take $10 out of $40 worth of product out of your cart they credit you just $30 of your Groupon value. Â Long story short... there is no way to avoid the exorbitant shipping and packaging costs. I felt like I was being gouged!!
Now I supposed the Blue Crab Trading Co would say "You should have read the Terms and Conditions more closely". I would counter that I shouldn't have to research whether to take advantage of a Groupon Offer without first having to review it like I was looking over the contact to buy a house.
I am going to just eat the $19 I paid in the first place and chalk it up to experience. I know a lot of people that use Groupons in my area and I will make sure to warn them about this one.
would avoid the mail order crabs. Â UPS forgot to load our crabs on the truck and blue trade would not call UPS to resolve the problem. since there is no delivery on saturday, apparently they thought it was fine to have a bushel of dead stinky crabs delivered on Monday. They had the gall to call at 8 pm, saying, oh they are still on their way. No they are not. Sister's birthday and we futiley spent it on the phone trying to find someone who would call UPS as the shipper and let them know that they needed to be received on time. No luck. They need to use a different shipper.
Review Source:Very good food. I had crab cakes which had no filler... crab cooked just right. My husband had soft shell crabs...delicious. Great service. They give you crackers and cheese while you wait. Homemade bread with meals. They also have homemade ice cream churned the old fashion way. DEFINETELY Â worth a stop.
