I love the energy and atmosphere of the little quaint place. Unfortunately they were really busy and started to get flustered waiting for someone to take our drink orders. When we finally had to stop a waitress, it was not much help as she had a heavy Argentinian accent, and tried hard to sound out her list of drink specials. I had to spell out my order. The bartender was our server as well which was tough because we were not sitting @ the bar, and he was pretty busy making drinks. My boyfriend complained his beer was 14 dollars so I panicked and only ordered 2 appetizers. The bartender/server did not take the time to ask our entree order, so again had to order from the Argentinian girl. I had a bad feeling when she looked confused but said ok she got the order. Then another server went to place scallops in front of me, which I did not order, and my boyfriend did not want to wait for my shrimp skewers to be ordered correctly. Everyone came and apologized, and the bartender said they would only charge the shrimp app. price if I ate the scallop dinner. Out of despair I said alright and tried one that was gritty and felt upset that I did not get the shrimp because of the girl not understanding English well. It was very disappointing because our crab cakes and black bean cakes were very delicious. I was also upset because I never go out to dinner with my boyfriend because of $$ and a rocky relationship, this was our Valentines meal. I started to tear up, and had to leave to wait for him outside, it was very embarrassing. I will attempt the Blue Rock again when it is less busy and with different company. Even though the Argentinian girl was very pleasant I believe the language issue makes me wonder why they hired her, it is no fun to have to just grin and bear it when you can not understand people in the service industry.
Review Source:Such a great find in a great town! Being a discerning picky New Yorker I was very pleasantly surprised. Everything we had was delicious including the desserts.
The awesome bartender Jeff makes fantastic drinks and plays great old movies.
A great jazz trio on Saturdays doesn't play too loud or overwhelm the room.
Highly recommended!!!
First off there was NOTHING open and we were hungry. We were pleasantly surprised when we saw the lights on which drew us downstairs to this quaint spot. We sat at the bar and the bartender was wonderful! As more of our party arrived we decided to get a table. We ordered a few items.. I can't really remember all of it (cheese plate, lobster bisque, salad...) but it was all yummy. Then.. as a tray of cleared dishes was passing behind me a full glass of water tipped and went down my back and on my jacket hanging on my chair. Now, I too work in the service industry and totally understand that accidents happen. I felt really bad for the employee. They brought me towels... and, maybe I'm out of line, but when the bill came the waitress (not the one who spilled the water) proudly informed me that they had comped one of my glasses of wine. ??? So that's the value you put on cold water down a patrons back? $8?? Definitely didn't ruin the night and I still enjoyed my meal and was with great company. Good but just a bit of an odd experience. Probably 3 stars but the bartender was great.
Review Source:The chef/owner creates and prepares, not only delicious, flavor filled food, but also focuses on presentation and service. He has created a culture based on tradition and caring.
The staff all bring their best whenever I am there and I am always delighted by the creativity of Chef Ramirez. I love the fact that he personally creates and prepares desserts!
Bravo Blue Rock!
We spent two nights in Shelburne Falls this weekend and went to the Blue Rock twice. Â After having a mediocre lunch experience at a pub across the river we decided to give them a try.
Everything we ordered was excellent. Â
The drinks were am azing, both bartenders were happy to create a drink for me given a few a ingredients... "something with St. Germaine and fruit..." Â
We started our first meal with mussels in a Thai red curry sauce. Â The sauce was amazing, really fresh tasting and clearly made by someone who knows about Thai tastes.
The ribs were tasty and the filet mignon was excellent. Â Perfectly cooked and super tender, the knife stayed unused. Â The side veggies were also very good, although a little disregarded because the steak portion was big.
The atmosphere here is casual, warm yet modern. Â A good place to hunker down for the evening and bear your soul, with a few courses and some drinks. Â The atmosphere was only improved by an exceptional waitress. Â Holly was exactly what a server should be... attentive but not looming, friendly and she knows the menu quite well, a perfect facilitator for a dining experience.
After our second dinner there we had the chance to chat with the chef, Chris Ramirez. Â My dining partner really wanted to know where he studied... having spent many months in Thailand he was certain Chris had cooked there, the tastes were spot on. He did study in Thailand, Â and uses that as one of his influences. Â In talking with him it was clear that this chef is passionate about food and cooking! Â
If we are ever to return to Shelburne Falls we will be back... and we will certainly be telling our foodie friends in the area to check it out.
