The Boat House Restaurant

The Boathouse is closed again! To bad it seems no one can make this place work!

We should have read the Yelp reviews before wasting an evening at the Boat House. Yikes, the service was poor and the food less than average.  The atmosphere is very dated, seems like a time warp from the 70's, with swivel captain's chairs and clunky tables, crowded into an old building that still retains the pulleys and winches on the ceiling from it's days as a boat house, I guess.  Perch was limp, lukewarm.  They actually served cauliflower as a side, with what appeared to be cheese spread all over it.  Gross.  Waitress brought me a white zin instead of a chardonnay and then disappeared for ten minutes when she said she'd "be right back with the chardonnay."  My husband had finished his cocktail before she returned.  No bread basket offered, even though other tables clearly were served bread.  Weird.  Go to Hack-Ma-Tack, Hoppies or drive to Pellston and go to the Douglas Lake Bar if you want better food and service.

This is a great location on the Cheboygan River.  Unfortunately, it was untapped potential as The Boathouse, with food that kind of sent you away going "Well, at least I ate."  Such disappointment no doubt contributed to the eventual closing of this restaurant, which has now re-opened with new owners and a new name.  Again, GREAT location.
