FYI: If you hate crowds, then you may want to avoid this place during any sports event or on the weekends.
I ate here on a Saturday night, and they were extremely busy so it took a while for us to get our food. Â That didn't matter so much though because it was worth the wait. Â I recommend getting the potato skins and seafood pomodoro.
We stopped in for a pub lunch after a long drive to the Cape. The ambiance was nice and the waitress friendly. I stuck to pub food and got a bacon cheeseburger and fries. The meat was good, and the fries edible but the roll was a cheap squashy one I mostly discarded.
My partner ordered the baked cod lunch special which was disappointing. It was a plain hunk of fish served over boring rice along with a side dish of what looked like canned corn.
We almost always stop here either coming or going to the Yarmouth area. The outside patio is our preference. I always get a seafood selection, always very fresh & delicious. Last Sunday, I had baked mac & cheese w/ lobster...Yumm!! They do not skimp on the lobster, quite the contrary. My wife usually gets a delicious cheeseburger. Waitstaff is prompt & courteous. Nice people-watching at the Mashpee Common Outlets too! Drinks are great also, & beers are only $3.50! Great spot.....
Review Source:I recommend the broccoli slaw. Â We have been here twice, once for a big meal, I got the steak tips which were great and my boyfriend got the chicken parm, he enjoyed it. Â 2nd time around we ordered sandwiches, I had the broccoli slaw again, there's bacon in it! Â Both meals were very good, relaxing atmosphere, you get what you pay for here, fair meal for the price. Â Service was ok. Â We would go back for a 3rd time.
Review Source:My boyfriend and I went here for lunch on a rainy day. Mashpee Commons was dead, Â but Bobby's was packed. You could tell right off the bat this is a local hangout.
We got a bowl of chowder to split, and it was very good. Creamy and loaded with clams, with not too too many potatoes. Recommended. I had a hankering for fish and chips, but didn't want the entire platter. Luckily, they have a fried fish sandwich. This was fresh and satisfying - really really good. My boyfriend ordered the smothered steak tip sandwich. He went nuts over it - the tips were juicy and cooked perfectly. Definitely a must-try.
The service was standard, nothing outstanding. The prices were spot on for what we wanted to spend for lunch, and the portions were just right.
Anyone looking for comfort food on a rainy day (or any day) in Mashpee should stop by Bobby Byrnes.
Do you ever feel sorry for the wait service when they serve bad food? Â Well, this is certainly a place that you'll get that feeling. Â We ordered mussels and fried calamari. Â How exactly do you mess up mussels? Â They tasted like swamp clams. Â The calamari was just bad (under fried and covered in salt)
Review Source:The food here is solid but not great and the prices are manageable. If you go make sure to eat their award winning clam chowder. At 5.95 for a large bowl it is a steal(considering the cup is 4.95). Â Service is solid which seems like a recurring theme in any review. Just don't expect a world class meal and you won't be disappointed.
Review Source:Nice atmosphere in the pub. Literally hit or miss on the food. Sometimes you get a good meal that is impressive. Other times it can be downright lousy. Worst aspect is probable lack of good food hygiene. I literally get sick after eating there every 4 out of 5 times. I wish it wasn't so because I like Bobby's, but they seriously need to pay better attention to food hygiene and bacteria.
Review Source:We were very disappointed with Bobby Byrnes when we went there in August.
The good: No wait for a table for four despite it being a Saturday night. The appetizer was good.
The bad: My wife's fish and chips plate was rubbery and my steak was overcooked and like chewing on a boot. When we told the waiter about the quality of my wife's meal, he shrugged it off, apologized insincerely, and wandered to another table. He would also stop by the table to ask a question, then wander away before we had a chance to answer.
Review is of the outside area only - love the tiny outside bar. The bartender was charming and timely with serving waitstaff and customers. Great relaxed atmosphere. I was there at 4 on Sunday w/ out a crowd - I am sure it can get really packed with shoppers in the commons - beware
Laid back.
This was my first visit to Bobby Byrne's Mashpee location. Â The food was consistent with (and just as good as) the Hyannis location. Â Bobby Byrne's is a great option for reasonably priced New England comfort food. Â It's unpretentious, has a good bar, and friendly staff. Â Even on a Tuesday night, off-season, the restaurant was clearly a popular choice.
I opted for a Cape Cod Reuben: a fish sandwich with Swiss cheese, coleslaw and Thousand Island dressing on marbled rye bread. Â Before the sandwich, of course, came a bowl of Bobby Byrne's famous clam chowder: a rival for Captain Parker's award-winner.
There were some good options for dinner specials, and the regular menu has a wide variety of choices, from salads to pasta, steak to stir-fry. Â Some of the desserts looked divine. If only we'd saved room! Â Oh well, there's always next time.
Went to Bobby Byrne's with some out of town guests on Saturday night, and was so pleased w/ the experience. They estimated that it would be a 45 minute wait, and we were pleasantly surprised when they told us less than 10 minutes later, that the wait was shorter than expected and they were ready to seat us!
The hostess was very polite and friendly, and the food exceeded our expectations. The Baked Stuffed Haddock with Newburg sauce was absolutely delectable... several members of our party ordered it and could not stop raving about it!
Another thing I like about this place is that they take down your cell # so that you can walk around Mashpee Commons' shops while you wait to be seated, and then they call you in when ready. This beats the heck out of those buzzers that confine you to a 10 foot radius of the restaurant!
My family has been going to Bobby Burne's since before I new how to say Clam Chowder. Back in the day, I would have given 5 stars for that chowdah alone. My sister and I once bought 2 thermoses at CVS just to bring back enough of it for everyone for dinner. I think the recipe may have been slightly altered since then, though. It's still really good, but not the mind-blowingly amazing chowder it once was. The restaurant too, has been kind of... commercialized? bastardized?... over the years, but overall you can count on a pretty solid meal here, and their menu has a good variety.
Review Source:I'm so glad Bobby Byrne's is in Mashpee Commons. After a day of shopping, or before shopping, a meal is much needed. A good "cape cod" feel meal is needed.
They have lunch specials which are great. Ranging from soup/chowder and sandwich, to baked scrod, to mini lobster roll. Their regular menu is huge! Salads as entrees, appetizers, seafood, burgers/sandwiches. It will please all, even children (who are anti-seafood). The portion sizes are fair, so you will get your moneys worth.
My mom loves the baked scrod. My dad's staple at seafood restaurants is fish and chips, but he does not fancy the ones here. I am fickle, so I order whatever I feel like that day. I've been satisfied with all my choices. I really liked the haddock chowder they had one time. Not too fishy. Lots of pieces of fish, and less creamy and seemingly fattening than the clam chowder.
The atmosphere is nice. I prefer eating inside just because, but the outside seating is great. It's a large area, and you can people watch. No dirty roads or cars driving by. You're opposite a store, and that's about it. No dirt in your food!
Went in for an early dinner on a Friday in March. Â We were seated in what was pretty obviously the section for parties with children, up and way in the back. Â For a pub, I thought the beer selection was pretty poor, but they did have Guinness and Harp, so the Irish part was legitimate.
The menu was far-ranging, and being recently transplanted Californians, we tried the nachos for an appetizer. Â They were perfectly fine; I liked the roasted jalapenos, though the little plastic cups of sour cream and salsa didn't help the overall effect. Â We also shared a burger that had boursin cheese. Â It was okay, but a bit small and overdone.
I might visit again, but only for lack of better options.
Mashpee Commons is my haven during a busy day in the field. Â Shops galore! Â And Bobby Byrnes is where I go to recharge. Â It has outdoor seating, great service, excellently priced lunch daily specials (atop of their immense menu), and not to mention ... a huge bar (with adorable bartenders - you'll see what I mean).
ATMOSPHERE
Upon entry, you're greeted with a smile and sat in either the bar area or the main dinner area where the walls are painted with gaelic words (and other interesting languages, yet I couldn't tell you one from another) and there is plenty of booth seats. Â Very comfortable. Â Not your typical wild and crazy Bugaboo Creek type chain, but more of a relaxed feel. Â Go at your own pace.
The general demographic is older folks (it is the Cape at lunch, after all) or mothers and fathers with toddlers at side.
FOOD
The menu really suits all needs, but consists mostly of standard pub foods: fish n chips (fresh fish and standard but consistently good chips), chicken parm (i'll take the food coma, please), Reubens, steak tips, ceasar salads, etc. Â
But if you're just looking for a friendly, familiar atmosphere whether you've been to Mashpee Commons or not, good service, and plenty of food that won't bust your budget, Bobby Byrne's is the BEST food option amongst other fancy choices.
