Had reservations for the sand castle building lessons and the meeting spot was at Boomerang Billy's. Without that, it would be a easily missed place.
Boomerang Billy's is a patio bar located behind the Surf Motel. I think the pool people are talking about belongs to the motel. There are a bunch of patio chairs, tables, and umbrellas on the patio deck. At the front of the patio, there is a small stage for live entertainment.
We went for the sand castle building Sunday afternoon, which was right behind Boomerang Billy's, on the beach and got to listen to the live entertainment. The karaoke girl sang songs (both new and old hits) as well as tell jokes like a comedian. She was awesome! Forgot her name... and it also helps that she can sing. We stayed about 3 hours here, chilling on the patio, drinking, listening, and just relaxing. It's a great thing to do on a Sunday afternoon and I think most of the locals gather here during that time too, because everyone knew pretty much everyone.
I have been going to BBs for years -- its got volleyball, a pool, a wash off station, food, drinks and a karaoke singer with enough guts to sing I love this bar at least twice. Â
Drinks are so so, a little expensive, bartenders can be dismissive and it takes sooooooooo long to get food.
BUT its on the beach, its got a bathroom and its a tradition.
We asked our waiter at Cap'n Roy's where the "best place to have a fruity rum drink while sitting on the beach" was on the Island. He directed us to Boomerang Billy's. Great recommendation!
Large deck looking out on the Gulf. There's a pool in the middle of it - great place to put the kids while you enjoy an adult beverage.
Friendly staff, bar snacks (tacos, burgers, etc), the cheapest drinks we found on SPI and it is where the locals come to gather.
Great bar on the beach! You can sit in the large patio area and look directly over the beach and the water. Right next to a beach volleyball court, so they may be some eye candy to be seen =)
The drinks were ok...nothing to write home about. This place is totally about location and view. The bartenders weren't the greatest, either (not very nice). The bar had a musician...a woman who sang to a karaoke machine. It was slightly entertaining...it was more entertaining to see the drunk people dance!
The best part was the view and the nice ocean breeze, hands down. That made it all worth it!
