My boyfriend and I were traveling back to Long Island after a family wedding and were looking for something to eat that wasn't fast food. We found out about this place through our gps and decided to check it out. My boyfriend ordered the traditional jambalaya and I asked for the veggie jambalaya. We were pleasantly surprised at how tasty the dishes were. The portions were just right, and for my dish, the rice to vegetable ratio was perfect. The only thing we'd suggest is that the dish be much spicier and we were looking for it to be a little more saucy. The meal and the beer were exactly what was needed for the long ride. Â The service was excellent and it was a friendly atmosphere. Upon leaving, we were thanked for dining there and it was a nice touch that made us, if we were ever back in the area, want to go back there for more.
Review Source:Bourbon Street is the best kept little secret in Monroe. While mostly known as a sports bar, my friends and I have been enjoying dinner there for a few years and it NEVER disappoints.
Bourbon Street's restaurant does lack ambience - possibly fixed by a seperate entrance, more comfortable seating, and better partioning from the bar area. The food more than makes up for those easy fixes. There is a varied, New Orleans style menu - a little something for everyone. We have never had a bad meal here from the PoBoys, to the jambalaya, to the pasta, and those incredible buffalo wings.
Ok ... now I'm hungry. See y'all at Bourbon Street. You will not be disappointed.
It's been a few years since I've been to Bourbon Street, as we moved from Monroe to Newburgh in 2009, but my wife and I frequented there quite often when we were living in Monroe. Seeing as cajun/creole food is hard to find in the Hudson Valley, Bourbon Street was always a very solid restaurant to go to for some serious comfort food.
Though I've heard that they've made some changes to the inside of the place, that probably is a good thing as the decor and ambience were generally the only real negative thing I could say about this place. The food was generally always delicious, whether it be cajun fare like seafood jambalaya, gumbo, blackened fish, or any number of selections, and the steak & chicken entrees were always good as well. If you like more standard dishes like wings or burgers, those were always great as well. The only issue I ever had with the food is that I always wanted it spicier, and even when I asked for something really hot it never quite lived up to it. Flavor wise everything was always spot on, including the tasty cajun fries that are dusted with a nice creole seasoning.
Would love to visit this place again sometime when I'm in Monroe and see what they have new as far as menu options and decor is concerned.
