I grew up in Helena and decided to have a quiet Friday night in and order my favorite burger. Â I called ahead and they let me know the order would be 25 minutes. Â I picked it up and checked my order in the car. Â The fries were cold so I took it back in. Â They said they fixed it for me and I drove home. Â The fries were still cold, inedible, so I returned again (I live close) and they apologized profusely. Â I returned home and found that they had forgotten the sauces I had ordered as well, which is part of the reason I go to this establishment. Â The burger was luke warm at best at this point and the patty was obviously a cookie cutter pre-frozen variety. Â What happened to the hand pressed patties? Â They had also forgotten the onion and tomato, so I returned once again. Â Seriously though, if I hadn't lived so close I would have just eaten it and been dissatisfied. Â Oh wait, I was dissatisfied. Â The food was sub par, even if it had been fresh and hot. Â By the time I had actually gotten everything I ordered, a group of six that had been waiting when I first arrived had been seated and was almost done with their meals. Â The hostesses were nice, but in all reality, they're the ones in charge of quality control on to go orders. Â I will NEVER go back to this place.
Review Source:this place gets 5 stars just for the view from the deck. Granted, I was visiting from the midwest so sipping a beer looking at mountains is not something that I get to do very often. My girlfriend and I went to the Brewhouse twice on our recent trip to town. Both times we had great service and were really impressed with their food. I was impressed with the server's knowledge of the different beers (I'm a beer geek and love to quiz them local beers).
Review Source:Sports Bar meets Restaurant. Â Not a first time at the Brewhouse, but always fast friendly service. Â The place is almost always busy, so that says something. Â They no longer brew at this location, just an FYI. Â But from salads to hamburgers appetizers, our group were all satisfied. Â The coconut halibut was a winner as was the shrimp appetizers. Â
They are close to the college, but also close to downtown Helena and the business area, so quite an eclectic crowd. Â In summer months, they have good outdoor space for those who need to get outside and still have lunch.
This isn't my first time here, but it might be my last. My first impression was better than my current. We got a sampler of all their beer for my girlfriend since it was her first time here. The beer was a bit more mediocre this last time. Food was pretty good--nothing fantastic. Maybe I would have rated it better if I had not just had a great brewpub experience last week elsewhere. I would probably come back if they did a better job on the beer side.
Review Source:We've been here twice. Different nights of the week each time, different seasons. Both times, the place was really busy.
The first time, we waited and waited and waited to get served. We had gone to the bar to get beers before being seated, luckily, because our glasses were empty for 20 minutes before someone (not our server) offered to refill them and then our very apologetic server took our order. She had a table near us that was a party of twenty that should have had two servers to keep things moving and keep other parties from waiting forever. Â Our food took equally long to arrive once it was finally ordered. But it was good. Then we watied forever for the check. The server continued to be apologetic.
The next time, this past Friday night, we had better service but it was still pretty slow. This time, I could see the kitchen from where I was sititng and it doesn't seem like they are slow. The place for the servers to pick up plates was constantly full of plates to be taken. The servers are pretty friendly and always moving, I just don't think there are enough of them.
The beer is excellent and the atmosphere is excellent.
Brewery meets Restaurant meets Sports Bar.
Good place to go if you're looking for a decent beer selection paired with solid food. Â They also serve beer that is not brewed by them. Â Liquor also available at the bar. Â One of the beer that they brew, Miner's Gold, is a standout if you're in the mood for a refreshing summer drink. Â
The service here is hit or miss, but the food has always been consistent. Â Mushroom appetizer is a winner. Â Onion rings are delicious. Â Also, their rib platters are accompanied by a selection of some really great housemade BBQ sauce. Â Their burgers are nothing special. Â Their fish and chips are excellent (it's the beer batter). Â Prime rib is good. Â Plenty of TVs to watch the game. Â Altogether, a solid place.
Stopped in here for a quick feed while on the road and was very impressed.
Atmosphere is lively, almost all the tables were full on this Saturday afternoon. Decor is interesting-- lots to look at, there are artifacts like motorcycle hanging from roof, petrol pump and lots of old signs neon and sheet metal from days gone by.
Beer selection is great as they are linked to the Lewis and Clark Brewery. I had a Scottish Ale and the Big Belt seasonal bock. They offer 10oz, 16oz and 22oz.
Portobella Mushroom Burger (under $10) was amazing, the best I've had (and this mushroom loving girl has traveled the world) It was made on dark rye with pesto, chargrilled red peppers, zucchini and provolone cheese. I'm totally borrowing this combo for home cooking.
Service was friendly and informed without being fuss.
Nice one Brewhouse!
The Brewhouse does make decent food, not fabulous, but good if you're hungry and don't mind spending extra cashWednesday has a dinner-time happy hour where one can get 8 wings for $2. Sounds wonderful, right? A nice restaurant walking distance from the school that occasionally offers cheap food!
Ah...but there is a catch. Now one must order beer to get wings; tough luck for those of us who aren't of the drinking age. This short-falling as a family friendly/college hot spot along with only "okay" food make this a place I would not recommend.
Luckily we had an "in" with the staff here, so the service was great, but the burgers had a stale flavor, the beer was mediocre, and my salad had an actual mud ball in it. A mud ball, not a bit of grit. Luckily, we also had a gift certificate to pay with, which took the sting out of the experience.
Review Source:I rarely write reviews for restaurants, but I had such a superb meal here that I feel it's necessary. The Brewhouse's prime rib sandwich was divine. I generally think prime rib is overrated, with a fatty slimy quality, but this was quite different. It was a thick cut of perfectly moist beef, with a delectable Cajun seasoning.
I was disappointed when I was finished with it. The atmosphere was fun, especially since we got to watch the NFL's first 7-9 team make the playoffs. I can't wait to go back.
Coconut crusted onion rings? Wow, unusual combination but very good. The whiskey new york strip was OK, i ordered medium but it came out closer to medium well but was still good. French fries were not bad not really 5 guys quality but what is? The salad was great for me and came with the meal. i do not like a lot of stuff on mine. mostly only lettuce, this came with sunflower seeds which i love. service was good not great. will be here for another week later this month and will be back to try their pork tenderloin looked pretty good on the menu.
Review Source:Friends took us here last night. First time to Helena, this was good food for a brew house. I had the Atena chicken sandwich and it was good, my wife had the enfurno burger and said it was great. We had kids in the group and this place was ready for the kids, crayons, kid menu and loud. I would return if i was looking for a casual quick bite to eat or maybe catch a game. The service was decent and quick.
Review Source:My mom and I ate here on the advice of a friend who visits Helena often. Â I was not impressed. Â The staff was not interested in being friendly or offering any more service than was absolutely necessary. Â The beer my mom ordered wasn't available so she asked for a recommendation and the server just looked at her. Â I had the greek salad which as ok, but not anything I would order again. Â Our server never checked with us after our food was delivered which I always find annoying.
Review Source:We were looking for a place that served food after nine on a weeknight. The Brewhouse ended up being a great choice. Pizza was tasty, as was the cod. GREAT selection of Montana beers and other microbrews along with the standards. Service was friendly and prompt. I wouldn't make a special trip to Helena just for this place, but I'd stop by again if I was in the area.
Review Source:We were driving through Helena and needed to grab a quick bite to eat but weren't interested in chain restaurants or fast food, so we took a chance on the Brewhouse. Â Our expectations weren't high, but even those expectations were let down. Â
On the plus side, the inside of the restaurant is nice... good vibe for a restaurant / bar, local artist pictures, local photos, etc. Â The menu looked promising since it was expansive, but I think they'd be better off cutting it in half and focusing on the quality of the food with less items.
We started with the garlic fries, but unfortuntely either the garlic was missing or in such low quantity that it couldn't be tasted. Â Next my wife got french onion soup which was unusually thick, with no cheese on top, and a single crouton for the bread. Â To top it off, she had a nice long hair on the last bite... yummy!
Our entrees weren't much better. Â I played it safe with a club sandwich, and it was ok... but my wife got a tenderloin medallion pasta dish that she took 3 bites of and was done. Â
The service wasn't the best... at no point did the waitress seem concerned that we weren't really eating our food. Â We're not big on complaining so we grabbed the check and dashed out a bit hungry.
I've been going to this place since it first opened. Â I thought it might fail at first, horrible timing (we got our salads after our main course), service, etc, but they turned it around. Â The food is always good. Â They have normal pub/grill food: Â wraps, burgers, fish, pasta, etc.
The onion rings are beer battered and plentiful. Â Spinach dip is decent. Â Chicken marsala is yummy. Â The have a lot of different Montana beers on tap.
Over the years it's turned in to more of a sports bar though instead of an upscale place to eat in Helena. Â For that they get 3 stars (though I'm sure they are just catering to the clientele.)
