More often than not a Three Floyd's beer is on tap!
So far after a few visits, no food disappoints. The wings and sandwiches have been great along with the fish tacos!
Service is solid whether you sit at the bar or table.
This is a Granville landmark that I hope to see unchanged for many years!
So, the wife and I happened to be in Brew's a few weeks ago (yeah, I was having some beer, what of it?) and we noticed a large wood fired stove in the open section of the kitchen. Â Upon closer examination we saw pizzas that looked quite delectable emerging from the oven. Â We immediately made a note to add it to the "to try" list for the Tuesday pizza routine.
Fast forward to last night . . and now hit pause for a word on the beer selection at Brews: AWESOME - anything and everything on tap. Â Between bottle and tap there are literally HUNDREDS to choose from! Â You would be hard pressed to find a better specialty beer selection (unless you're hip enough to be served in Bodega, which I'm not - I've tried).
Hit play and we're back at last night's pizza. Â Brew's offers up a more traditional pizza (no edge to edge crap or rectangular, crustless cuts). Â Brew's crust is fantastic - crispy on the outside, but very airy and chewy under the rim. Â They toss in some great char spots for flavor. Â It reminded me of Element back in its heyday of awesome pizza. Â Brews' toppings also rate well - especially the mushrooms, which come out on top of the pie looking slightly dehydrated and wrinkly from the super high heat of the oven - a good sign that these were fresh, cooked the way I like them (not rubbery) and delicious! Â The sauce was good (not enough for my tastes) and the cheese was very solid.
This pizza was so damn good that I tried to edit Brew's Yelp page to add "pizza" as a category, but they were already maxed out. Â Damn the war.
If you happen to love pizza and be anywhere near Granville, do yourself a serious favor and try Brew's.
I've been a fan of Brew's for a few years now having discovered it on a camping trip near Granville. Â As others have mentioned, you really can't beat the beer selection here. Â Some of the servers appear to be well-versed in the beers they serve and are able to help sift through the options to find one that you'll like.
My experience with the food here has generally been good. Â I'm a fan of the burgers, the turkey club wrap, and the Cuban. (probably not all at once though) Â Cole slaw this last time was not to my liking.
Service has also been generally good with a few lapses as they get busier. Â In the two nights I was there this past week - one night we had excellent service and the second (busier) night was adequate.
If you enjoy beer, a fun atmosphere, and some good food, Brew's is a good bet. Â It's good enough that we go there every time we are in Granville.
Love Brews! Big selection of solid, good pub food and tons of beer, beer, beer. The blue cheese chips and all hot sandwiches are delicious.
The beer selection is no joke - I've tried several here that have become favorites. I've not had issues with service like some folks have, hopefully that keeps up because I love driving out to Granville on weekends to wander around and hang out at Brews for a couple hours, just being lazy. Kinda wish they did beer flights, because of the drive my boyfriend and I can't try more than a couple!
There are not very many options in this area as I came to find out unless you are looking for chain restaurants. Â After a long search of the surrounding area that was close to where I was staying I finally came across this place. Â Located on an old town main street area there are a few little restaurants here. Â So my crew and I decided this place was the one for us.
There beer menu is extremely large and when they say "we have it all and then some" on their website they are not kidding.  The food is standard bar menu food pizzas, burgers, nachos etc. I went with the sheohboygan burger which is a lot of food.  I chose to remove the sauerkraut because I felt that would cause the burger to fall apart.  One of my buddies who was there ordered the same but left the sauerkraut on and sure enough he was eating the burger with fork and knife after just a couple of bites.  The burger and the nachos were good but not out of this world. Â
The biggest problem with this place was the service.  We approached the host stand and had to ask if we seat ourselves or......she finally took two minutes from doing her nails to seat us.  The server was not very personable at all but we got our order and food in a timely manner so at least the job got done.
Food was very tasty for a bar type atmosphere. Tried the Green chili bacon goat cheese burger. Burger was cooked perfectly to medium and the goat cheese was fresh and creamy. Make sure to try the craft brews. They have a giant list that will not dissapoint. Will definately return the next time I am in the area.
Review Source:"Can I get you a beer or something?"
No "Hello". No "Here are the specials of the day." Hell, no water and let me tell you my experience at Brew's was hell.
This was the start of an entirely miserable first time visit to Brew's. I'll go in depth to the sickening service in a moment but let me dive into the food.
What brought me to Brew's is they offer a plethora of vegetarian options. Too bad I won't be back to tell you if they are any good. What I did try was substandard at best. I had the fried dill pickles. I expect fried foods to have some grease on them. However; when the ranch dipping sauce runs off the pickles the grease may be a bit excessive. I also tried a salad which came to me warm. I ordered the cranberry vinaigrette which seemed to be cranberry sauce straight from a can. There was no bitterness and it had the consistency of coagulated blood.
Can you mess up a salad?! I mean really? If it seems like amateur hour coming from the kitchen, the service is entirely from a horror movie or an episode of Kitchen Nightmares.
First, as stated above; nice welcome to the restaurant. Second, the wait time from being seated to the time that I ordered food was about 20 minutes. Third, it was a chilly night and apparently they do serve soup. I didn't know that until I saw the specials board on the way out the door. Fourth, the salad was served in a shallow bowl with a wide brim that had palm prints and finger prints all over it. Gross but it gets so much grosser.
My server was bringing beer to another table and set the tray down on an empty table. He picked up a beer and raised it to his nose and smelled it. I guess to determine what it was he was serving!? As he tilted the glass, the beer touched his nose and he wiped the beer from his nose. Now most servers wouldn't even smell a beer but my server smelled it, got it on his nose AND SERVED IT TO THE CUSTOMER.
Let me reiterate; THE SERVER SMELLED A BEER, GOT HIS NOSE IN IT AND SERVED IT TO A CUSTOMER.
It made me wonder how my salad got warm! Carried in his hat? Armpit? Undershorts?!
I started to text my friend who manages a Northstar in Columbus expressing that he should talk to management about expanding to Granville when my server came over and asked "Are you writing an online review of this place?"
No, but I am now.
Brew's sucks and it could be great.
Dear management of Brew's; please get it together. You have some major problems that need addressed. Growing up in Licking County I have heard of Brew's for a long time before I tried it. It will be a long time before I even think of trying it again.
My advice to readers; grab some beer from IGA and if your nose gets in it you'll know it's your snot you're drinking.
I joined Yelp specifically to write a review about Brew's Cafe. (Plus I thought it was time I contribute since I rely on Yelp reviews myself). My husband and I have been here ~ 6 times. We haven't taken the time yet to try other restaurants in Granville because we end up craving Brew's mahi-mahi fish tacos. My husband says they're the best he's had, and he's had some good ones when he lived in CA. It's an added bonus to sit on the balcony overlooking the quaint town of Granville. Grab a beer and enjoy!
Review Source:We have been long time Brews customers for many years. Â A favorite meal has been the infamous House Favorite pizza. Â Please bring it back! Â We were told we could still order it minus the pine nuts. Â Are you kidding? Â The crunch of the pine nuts made the pizza. Â We were told they were too expensive to carry. Â Come on guys, charge an extra quarter for each pizza, we would gladly pay to have a family favorite back again!
Review Source:I've been here a few times with a couple of friends. I hadn't really ever been anywhere along the lil strip in Granville. This place was quite the find!!
The first time I went, I had a grilled salmon salad...which was really good. A little pricey, but still pretty good.
The second time, I had one of their enormous burgers. It was amazing!!!
They have all types of beers, for you beer lovers.
I will certainly be back to this place! It's fun to hang out at or for a family to go to for dinner. Great place! Great food!
Eating here is always a safe bet for a cold pint of draft micro-beer and a good burger. It's a large restaurant, inside a building more than 100 years old -- with plenty of brightly colored neon signs for specialty brews of all sorts and flat-panel televisions that are always tuned into ESPN.
The other sandwiches are good, too -- not fall-off-your chair great but very good. Granville seems void of any excellent little eateries (for some reason) but Brews is consistently good.
Sure, you'll probably sit next to a table of screaming kids, but hey, it's so noisy in there that you'll soon not even notice them. That said the atmosphere is upbeat and I always leave in good spirits.
Love Brews!
My husband and I don't get out to Granville as much as we would like, but when we do, the trip is always worth it. Â The beer list is as extensive as it gets - and it's very well updated (they update on Facebook daily) as taps are rotated. Â Not finding a beer on tap that strikes your fancy? Â No worries! Â The bottle list is even larger, and also very diverse.
The food is also very good, and the menu is updated seasonally - they've even gone to some extensive lengths to ensure that the vegetarians are covered in the menu. Â What's next, gluten free? Â I'll drink to that. Â
Another high point of Brews is the delightful staff that are on hand. Â The bar manager is a super nice guy, and he knows his beer! Â The wait staff and bar staff are equally attentive and definitely there for the customer, even when it's busy. Â
Overall, I enjoy my once-in-awhile trips to Brews. Â While I know its intent is probably not for it to be a sports bar, a couple more TV's wouldn't hurt ;-)
RMc
My experience here was nice enough. Â But man, I was bummed that I was in town for business and had to get up so early, so I had to limit myself to only two beers. Â That was really a drag because as everyone has already said, the beer selection is pretty exciting.
As someone else noted, it is kind of a buzzkill that there is no list of what's available in bottles, and it's true that the only way to see is if you're sitting at the bar and can scope out what's in the coolers. Â That's dumb. Â It would be cool if they printed a bottle list, I've been to plenty of places that have even bigger selections and they all had complete beer menus to browse.
The food I had was all right by me, and at the time, hit the spot just fine. Â I am admittedly a full-blown Chicago-raised pizza snob, so I was wary, but I ordered a white pizza that had chicken and herbs on it, and although the dough on the bottom was a little soggy and undercooked, it was still pretty tasty. Â Not bad, I think it was like $9 or $10 or something, decent value.
Service was attentive enough and the bartender was happy to pour a small sample of tap beer before I committed to a full glass. Â Atmosphere was a little bright & noisy for my tastes but whatever. Â I would return if I happened through this area again.
Brews has a big reputation in and beyond Granville. The first time I ate there, I thought I really liked it. Now that I've eaten there many times, I think I was swayed by the hype. It's pub food that is not great. The hamburgers are either frozen patties (really?) or prepared so badly that they have all of that characteristic stiffness and lack of flavour. The only thing I really like there are the onion rings. They aren't even great onion rings, they just happen to be exactly the kind of frozen ones that I have get an unhealthy degree of pleasure from.
Review Source:I used to really like Brew's before they moved to their new location. Â Since they have moved we have been there number of times. Â I love beer to it would go to reason that I would love Brew's but after this last time there I do not.
Their beer selection is amazing. Â One of the best selections you can find in central Ohio. Â If you are going to Brew's it's probably because of their beer selection. Â The biggest problem is that they keep their fantastic selection sort of a secret. Â Unless you are sitting at the bar and looking at their rows and rows of bottles you will never know what they have in their refrigerators as they no longer keep a list of them. Â The only list they have is their list of taps which is awesome and changes a lot as well. Â One of the times I went in there their tap list wasn't even up to date. Â So they won't make a list of their bottles and they keep their tap list up to date when they feel like it? Â Why go to a beer place when finding out what kinds of beer they have is a feat?
Their food used to be really good. Â I'd call it just ok now. Â I don't know if they've had a change in cooks or what the deal is but over the last three years the food has been getting progressively worse. Â
On a positive note, you don't have to usually wait the 2 to 3 hours you used to have to wait when they were in their old location. Â Now it seems that the longest wait you'll have is 15 minutes, which I've experienced once in the last three years but the rest of the times have been walk right and and get a seat. Â
The service is alright but all of the servers I have had lately have seemed overworked. Â The place is usually pretty busy and they have minimal staff for the crowds so getting a waiter who's not tired, who knows what beers they have and some details on them and who's not snappy from being go-go-go for hours is a rarity. Â I'd rather make the trip out to Bodega or Matt the Miller's as their food is better, their service is better and they keep their beer lists up to date, including their bottle lists which is something considering all of the beers Bodega has.
What a pleasant surprise! Â In town over the summer to do some geocaching (GPS scavenger hunt), and my friends and I decided on eating lunch at Brew's. Â '
I ordered Caesar salad and macaroni and cheese. Â I typically get a Caesar whenever I eat out, and this one was very good. Â I'm really picky about mac and cheese...I prefer creamy sauce over stringy cheese. Â Brew's serves creamy mac and cheese and boy was it tasty!! Â I tried my friend's onion rings and those were also tasty. Â They all got either sandwiches or burgers and no one had any complaints.
I love Granville, so when we're back in town we'll definitely stop in again :)
Great, friendly staff. Best draft and bottle selection in central Ohio (they also do growler fills and carryout bottles). For craft beers, we pretty much visit Bodega (Short North) or Brews (and we live in the New Albany area).
Brews is well worth the drive from Columbus to experience. Located in the heart of Granville's "downtown" and not far from Denison.
Sit at the bar! The bartenders know their stuff and can make excellent recommendations. As for food, I love the lettuce wraps, nachos, turkey bacon cheddar melt and pizzas. (The menu does change unusually often, but those are tried and true.)
Our group picked Brews while on a visit to Denison University. Â I couldn't tell you about the beer, but, the food was EXCELLENT!! Â There were so many items on the menu that were so appealing that it took quite a while to make our choices, we decided to split our food between us, and, everything was cooked to perfection. Â
If you're at, or around Denison University, do stop in, but, only if you have plenty of time to kill, the wait staff is on the slow side, but, we were visiting my daughter, so time was not an issue.
So i just did one of their specialty events where they have a brewer or some other representative of a microbrewery visit, talk and take questions about the product line.
Never knew about it and so glad i found out about it and went. I really like this place, I just wish it wasnt so far from me (about 30 minutes). I would be here every day!
This is the quintessential perfect little bar in the coolest little town in Ohio. Â They sport something like 200+ beers. Â Unlike one's 200+ choices of Anheuser products, these beverages are tasty unique and from around the world. Â These beverages have a history that is interesting. Â They are not mass produced with accountants sitting in cubicles. Â These beverages have a life and remind us that we should too. Â These beverages have a full body with genuine taste.
The staff is very knowable of all their products, capable of making good suggestions for something new. Â Provided you can outline roughly what you like. Â Service is great - timely without rushing you and at the same time reminding you to take a minute and enjoy yourself.
The food is typical bar food for the most part, but is up scale bar food.  I enjoy the South of the Border Burger, but then I like a jalapeños with my cow.
The atmosphere is very cool and laid back. Â The music is in the background the way a proper pub should be - sports on the TV. Â Customers and staff are friendly and open to conversation, just like a small town should be. Â The walls are painted dark green with hard wood floors and trim adding to the atmosphere.
I always enjoy my visits to Brew's and I think you will too, so what are you waiting for?
Came here for lunch. Great atmosphere and their beer selection looked awesome, unfortunately couldn't partake because it was a business lunch. Ordered the fish tacos. They were not so great. The chips that were served as the side were slightly stale. Salsa was mediocre as well.
Looks like an awesome place for an afternoon drink but the food was only alright.
Amazing beer selection, and they serve almost all of it to go in growlers! Keep the jug and bring it back for a refill. I can't find anywhere that compares to Brews in Columbus so I make a few trips per year to this special place.
Nestled in cute-as-a-button downtown Granville, don't forget to do some shopping while you are here. Plenty of small, local business just waiting for you to support them.
They serve quality pub food along with some lighter fare such as salads, Â but I always go for the fried stuff. Gotta love the fresh cut fries!
I'm slightly obsessed with Brew's. Perhaps it's because I only visit a couple of times each year. Absence make the heart grow fonder, right? Once you make the drive to the adorable Granville you'll find Brew's on the main drag with a list of 30 or so beers on drafts and even more bottled options.
A beer list this impressive has to partner with good bar food, and that's what Brew's has to offer. Messy burgers, yummy sandwiches and brick oven pizza. I recommend you BYOB (Build Your Own Burger). The atmosphere is laid back and you'll feel like you're in college again with the Denison crowd. The second floor seating allows you to observe those at the bar while you chow down.
I highly recommend taking a drive to Granville, taking a peek in the local shops and finishing your day with a meal and beverage at Brew's.
If you love beer, you will think you've died and are now in hops heaven. This is where I first discovered Arrogant Bastard and developed a romance with Rogue (especially Dead Guy) After picking apples at Lynd farm we came here for some grub. First we thought some mom n pop diner up by Johnstown and after some brainstorming decided to go to Brews.
You will find the Denison crowd and non-Denison locals and those of us outta towners who will drive cuz we love this place. Granville is a gorgeous little town full of ambiance and charm. I strongly suggest stopping here on a fall drive to Newark to see some stunning fall color. We usually make the drive to Newark to check out the trees, (believe it or not, the trees on this stretch of 161 is some of the best fall color in Ohio) then we turn around and head into Granville, tool around a bit, visit some shops then head to Brews for a beer n a bite. It's become a fall ritual!
The kid had a great little crafty looking kid's cheese pizza, so good I shoulda got it. My friend had a philly steak, looked great, but I'm trying to stay away from meat, my daughter and I had the grilled portobella burger, and man was it delish! Swiss cheese, baby spinach, tomato n red onion on a brioche roll with dijonaise, marinated in balsamic, I wish I had one now! To top it off, (like I needed it) I had tiramisu.
There are great appetizers, salads, deli sandwiches, brick oven pizza, soup, sandwiches n burgers from the grill. Try the salt n pepper chips as a side-very good.
Check out the beer list. I don't think I've ever seen a more extensive one this side of a beer carryout! Even in the land of BEER, when I lived in Germany, I don't remember so many choices!
So take a drive to Granville, visit Lynd fruit farm, check out the fall color then stop at Brews for good eats n a visit to beer heaven :)
The restaurant is consistently good and the beer selection overwhelming. But what I really go to Brews for is the live music on the 3rd floor. Some amazing bands play here for little to no cover.  It's the only real live rock music venue in town. (there are  sometimes bluegrass and jazz too)
Review Source:Brew's. Where I can go to get a good beer and a little dose of nostalgia.
As a Denison alumnus, this place holds a special place in my heart, but don't that clouds my Yelp judgment. My friend and former Deni roommate suggested we go here since I was in Columbus visiting for the weekend and I didn't have to think twice about accepting that invite!
Oh Brew's, you have gotten yourself a little makeover and I likey. With upstairs and downstairs seating areas, you don't have to wait forever for a table, which used to be a huge problem back in the day.
Their beer selection is extensive and diverse, especially for such a little place in the middle of Ohio. I was shocked to see that they had Brooklyn Brown Ale on tap - so I had to get me some of that. Spinach and artichoke dip was amazing and served with pita flat breads. None of this weird tortilla chip crap - who decided that was a good idea anyway? I ordered a turkey, bacon, and cheddar sandwich on a pretzel roll. Mmm, pretzel roll. The cheddar oozed over the sandwich and made it a warm and gooey treat. Onion rings were the perfect sidekick; you could literally hear them crunch when you took a bite.
My only disappointment? They seemed to have removed this yummy Italian sandwich that I would always order. Why did that have to go? Was it not good enough for the new and improved Brew's? Despite the removal of my favorite dish, Brew's gots it going on.
I'm a student at Denison University, so when it comes to eating in-town I have very few options. Brew's is one of these options. It's a typical bar and grill whose high point is probably the very cool atmosphere of the building. The brick walls, dusky lighting, vintage alcohol advertisements bottles, and black-and-white photos make it a much more sophisticated version of the bar-and-grill than you would find at a place like Applebee's. So in terms of atmosphere it does pretty well. However, when it comes to the food, which is where I think it counts, the food is meh. The burgers are never cooked the way that you request them, the pizza is sub-par, and it's four dollars for an absolutely tiny salad. I could go on, but you get the idea. Every time I leave Brew's I do so feeling that I was ripped off, asking myself "How did I just spend twenty bucks on a salmon club and a salad that 1) wasn't enough food and 2) wasn't all that good?" Brew's gets away with charging too much because it is one of literally three "nice" places to eat dinner in Granville, so don't expect that because you're paying a lot that the food must be really good.
In short: Brew's is nothing to write home about. If you don't live in Granville, it's not worth the drive. If you live in Granville, as I do, you will probably continue to eat at Brew's and spend too much money on middle-of-the-road food just because there's not much else.
BREW'S: IT'S JUST NOT THAT GREAT.
No other city in the United States, at least not one the size of Granville, has such a huge, and I mean huge selection of beer. Â I think they have 46 beers on tap and maybe another 200 or so in bottles, and if you want a beer on tap or in bottles, they will get it for you. Â Teri, Rachel, Scott and Brian are awesome bartenders and are the other reason I go here at least twice a week. Â Pizzas are pretty good, and the food is pub food (which I don't care much for), but I like the warm atmosphere, warm people, and cold beer.
Review Source:Roughly 30 miles east of Columbus is Granville, a charming small town with big appeal. Located in the heart of town, Brews Café & Deli is a multilevel shrine to hops and barley. A picturesque exterior gives way to a lively atmosphere, boasting more than two dozen seasonal draft selections representing all the major micro producers: Stone, Sierra Nevada, Dogfish Head, Rogue, Duvel, Avery... Hundreds of bottle choices are available in large coolers behind the bar, providing plenty of eye candy for even the most jaded beer snob.
Review Source:Blue Cheese Parmesan Potato Chips!!!!!!!
Huuuuge portions. Great American comfort food. Popular place in downtown Granville. I got excited when I discovered a restaurant that made this potato chips appetizer in New York. SO GOOD!!
Great place for groups and going for friends birthdays as they have big booths and lots of food to share around the table.
