When in Carroll, my go-to restaurant has been Bloomers for as long as I can remember, but after a pretty bad experience my last time there, I looked into other options for this trip into town and stumbled across B&S's 529 on Yelp. Â We decided to give it a shot.
The bar seems to be pretty large, with a decent-sized bar area, a long back room, and an upstairs that I didn't venture into. Â We settled at a table by the door. Â Our server was also the bartender, and despite the fact that he obviously had a lot of other stuff going on, he was very attentive and gave great service. Â
I ordered the chick filet (breaded chicken sandwich with bacon, cheese, lettuce, and tomato), my boyfriend ordered a burger with horseradish cheese and fried green beans, and my aunt ordered a reuben, which they were kind enough to make for her even though it wasn't on the menu. Â We also started with cheeseballs because hey, you can never go wrong with fried cheese.
Everything came out relatively quickly, and the food was great. Â The burger was definitely hand made from fresh ground beef, not frozen, and my chicken was hand-breaded. Â It was a touch on the greasy side, but not unbearably so, and the bun more than made up for it. Â A perfectly toasted bun has the power to bump any sandwich up a notch and the bun here was one of the best toasted buns I've had in a long time. Â
I highly recommend B&S's if you're in Carroll and looking for some great bar food.
