These are authentic buffalo-wings - as good as you can get anywhere, including the annual Buffalo wing festival in Buffalo NY. The meat was fresh, cooked just enough and the sauce rich and buttery, as it should be. Â Wife got the boneless wings (she drives) and says they were "delicious, cooked right, light fluffy batter."
She got the mild sauce (no sting), I got the middle of 5 temperatures ("hot"), and am still feeling it on my lips 15 mins later. Yum. Â Can't imagine the hottest.
We've stopped here several times on trips south. This time we called ahead from 5 miles out to order wings to go. Â We've had the rings (good) and a salad (average), but haven't tried much else. Not sure why anyone would order a gyro at a wing place in middle NC.
As the last review said, checkout is kind of funky, as if they don't expect you want to go. But to-go checkout on a Sunday night at the bar was fast and friendly.
Another fine dining experience in lovely Roanoke Rapids.
We ate on a weekday in the lull between lunch and dinner.
We ordered gyros. I know, gyros at a wing place in a deteriorating mill town in North Carolina? They had a whole section of the menu devoted to them, so, you know, I thought they actually made gyros.
I was presented with a pita with two mysterious pieces of reconstituted meat-like jerky, a few random vegetables, and sour cream with a few chunks of cucumber listlessly suspended in it. And some decent french fries.
It was not good. Its status as a gyro is also questionable. My boyfriend got the super gyro or something, so I think he got four pieces of jerky.
Then, I went to pay. (The $27 ticket for two gyros, two cokes, and five wings.) And there was no one to be found. There was someone eating french fries at the bar, but I wasn't sure if she worked there or not. I stood by the register so long that I started examining the screen, to see if I could check myself out. Eventually someone did come and take my money for the extremely lackluster meal.
Lame. Quesadilla appetizer was  served lukewarm; cheese had already turned back into a solid.  Wings were good, burger was fair. Pricy. Told there would be an extra fifty cent charge for a second small dish of blue cheese dressing for the wings on a forty dollar total bill. Below average food; high prices;  mediocre service. Typical sports bar ambiance.
