First place we head to when arriving, and when leaving our Whitefish vacation home is The Bulldog!!
Greasy? Check. Â Â Tasty? 2 checks. Â Real Onion Rings. Check!
Really, what else do you need? Â This place is renowned through tout the valley; some of it is the bathroom nudies, but mostly it's the cheap drinks and juicy burgers that make it special. And by special, I mean front-of-the-bus special! Â Just do it! (Not everyday, but today; today you need this!
Great food. If it wasn't for the great food I'd never come here. The food and the help taking your food orders are great. The bartender, however, is another story. Asked for a beer twice, got walked by three times and more than 15min later finally got a beer. The burger though was hands down the best I've had. If not for the bar service it would have been an easy 4 stars.
Review Source:Well, it's definitely not the fanciest place in town, not by a long shot, but is does have appeal. Â If you're more of a Casey's or Boat Club kind of person, you're probably not going to get much out of the Bulldog. Â However, if you're looking for more for a "Montana experience" then this is where you want to be. Â They server bar food, but man is it good bar food! Â In my book, it's the go to place in Whitefish for burgers and wings. Â Also, do yourself a favor and get the sour cream & chive fries...trust me on this one. Â
If you're at the Bulldog and have to avert your eyes as order after order of those delicious hamburgers keep going past your table, because you can't have one due to your unfortunate gluten allergy, FEAR NOT! Â The Bulldog is 1 of only 2 places (that I know of) IN THE WHOLE VALLEY, that are considerate enough to offer gluten free buns to their customers. Â So get in there, you poor gluten free soul, and get yourself a burger!!!
As to the star rating, I was really torn.  I really wish Yelp offered a 1/2 stars option or I would have given the Bulldog 3 1/2 stars.  I wanted to give it 4, but when I looked at  the other places I was awarding 4 stars to, in my opinion, it just isn't a 4 stars place...by comparison.  Sorry Bulldog, I still love you and will still keep coming back, so to all you people reading this, don't let the 3 stars deter you.  Go!  You'll have a great time and eat some really good food.
Fun bar, good food. Â Everytime I come in I get a BFP and the bulldog burger. Â You'll need a friend or two to help you out..with the BFP that is...
*****Bathrooms have an adult decor. Â Be careful with your kids, you might not see them for a while.******
They did have gambling in there at one time...didn't see it this year, but that doesn't mean its not there.
Classic dive bar for locals, sports fans, and skiers. The sour cream and chive fries were the best I've had. The burgers looked good too. You order your food in the front and then get drinks from the bar tender in the middle. Beers on tap included some Montana brews like Moose Droll and a less expected Belgium Blue Moon.
Review Source:This is much more a hang out than a resto. They mostly have sandwiches and sides. They weren't bad, per say, but we did have a couple issues. I got the club, and it was ok-grilled sliced turkey with the bacon and what-not. My friend ordered the same thing but they tried to give her a cheeseburger three different times. I think some of the previous revues were more about the poker in the back room than the food.
Review Source:Another great Whitefish bar! Damn this lil town sure has a lot of bars. During our sub-zero ski trip, we made a point of checking out Bulldog Saloon. We met someone on a ski lift in Park City a few months ago who told us if we ever get to Whitefish, we must eat a burger and check out the bathrooms at Bulldog. What a coincidence, we told him, we were headed there in February.
Papa D had a fantastic burger, but the great find of the visit was my taquito salad. Yes you read that correctly, a TAQUITO salad! Why haven't I thought of this before myself? A salad topped with tomatoes, onions, taquitos and salsa - yum! Much better salad then the one I got the day before across the street. And they had cheap beer too!
We both visited the bathrooms and got our little thrills, and then purchased Papa D a Bulldog Saloon t-shirt and headed out to the arctic cold. We'd definitely visit Bulldog again.
Oh and Papa D is going to make taquito salad at the fire station....and I'll be visiting for dinner.
Whitefish, Montana and this is a lively bar to go to.
The Monday Night Workout crowd, the guys 59 years old, were in town and stopped by the Bulldog Saloon. Sara was the bartender, and we got to meet her, and hang out with some other locals from the area.
This place was jumping on Saturday night as in Whitefish, everybody goes out on Saturday night: old young, boys and girls, but no dogs allowed.
There is a liquor store attached to the bar if you care to pick up a bottle as you leave. Montana is a state where you pick up your booze at a state run store.
This place is a good old bar. I had some food that was just a step up for your classic greasy diner. The place has great atmopshere and good selection of beers. Just to meet the guys or grab a quick drink I would recommend this place, not  a first date kinda place. There are tons of funny pictures and writting all over the place, not kid friendly.
Review Source:We ended up in the Bulldog Saloon because someone in town told us that was where the best burgers around were made. Â We made our way into the bar and looked around skeptically - there isn't even waiter service and it's dark and musty, with poker tables in the back. Â However, we had no better ideas, so we put in our burger orders and got drinks from the bar.
The atmosphere was a little strange because Bulldog's seems like a dive bar - but attracts young, active people looking for a fun place to gather. Â The bathrooms are known for their risque wall photos - one entire stall of the women's room is covered with cut-outs of men's penises - and the rest of the bar is made up of squares containing rival college pennants. Â There's no smoking and everyone is friendly, so eventually we settled in.
The burgers came out pretty quickly in plastic baskets - and were amazing. Â I fully believe that they are the best burgers in town because they were probably the best burgers in the state (or maybe even the time zone). Â We left full, happy, and pleased that someone had suggested we try the place. Â It may look divey, but it's worth an evening!
Want a poker game kiddies? This is the place. This where my love for Texas Hold'em started. I worked these crazy train tours that would end up in Whitefish, MT. We had a week stay there, on and off for 3 months. God I love this little town and the small town fun they have to offer. They have a back room that's used for poker. The bar itself has a nice menu stocked with great sandwiches and good food specials. Decked out with old school dusty penants of professional football teams. Now the poker room is filled with players, GOOD PLAYERS. Â I lost some money at this place, but I had fun doing it.
Review Source:dusty little bar with a fetish for montana sports. Â what?? Â ok, so yeah, montana collegiate sports. Â this place reminded me of the Kingfish in Oakland, California except that the guy with no front teeth looked like he wouldn't hesitate to shank me with his 30" cant hook.
despite the fact that my wardrobe looks like i raided Mel Lentz's closet and i hadn't showered in 3 days, i fit right in here. Â plus, i think gambling is legal in bars in Montana so you've got most of your vices covered. Â unfortunately, very few women means one less vice.
