  What a diamond in the rough! We passed by the usual fast food joints not knowing how far the next eating area would be and nothing came for a long time. I was a little skeptical going in but once we opened the door I felt a little better about the place. You are first told by the sign that if you are not a customer it will cost you $1 to use the restroom but hey, they aren't a gas station so I kind of understand that. The woman working was very friendly and the service was quick too. While yes, it is your somewhat "greasy spoon" type spot, they do it right. Patty Melt was perfect, Tator tots, fries, special sauce, all yummy. My daughter had "pancake", yes, one pancake, it was the size of the plate and it was sweet and good.  So if you are traveling through Salome and need to eat, don't skip over the Cactus Bar and Cafe!

  If you ever happen to find yourself in the little town of Salome, AZ, I highly suggest you stumble into the Cactus Bar on Hwy 60 (across the street from Sheffler's Motel).  I was riding my bike through Arizona, and spent Christmas Day in Salome, and had a blast meeting the locals at this place.  Everyone was unbelievably friendly.  Don, the owner, is a businessman from Phoenix with great stories.  And Don, the manager, will try to charm you with free drinks and lotto tix.  They were having a potluck dinner with the regulars the night I was there, and they let me join in on the good food and festivities.  The front room is a dark saloon-type room decorated with saguaro ribs on the walls.  The back room has a pool table, another bar and a juke box.  I was told they host a karaoke night every so often.  The friendliest small town bar in the Southwest that I've ever happened upon.  You should visit them.
