This is one of those cozy, down-home places that just make you feel good.
My wife and I were driving down the road when she started jonesing for a Blizzard. We spotted this DQ and stopped in. What we found was a friendly oasis where locals gather to visit and catch up on the latest news. Some of the oldtimers have clearly been coming here for years, and it warmed my heart to sit at the periphery of their affectionate company. They even drank their coffee from real coffee cups that the restaurant keeps on hand for them.
The food here is just like in every other Dairy Queen. If you like DQ, you'll like this one just fine. But the atmosphere took me back in time to a feeling that is very rare indeed.
It was totally by chance that I ended up at this DQ. Â I had just passed through Durant and I started thinking "Dog, I'm hungry. Why didn't I stop?" So I was planning to turn around at Caddo. But as I rolled up to 22, there was a sign saying "DQ. Exit now." DQ wasn't exactly on the list of places I was willing to stop. But there it was right at the top of the exit ramp. And because I'd had another business owner recommend DQ to me, after my review of his business, I took it as a sign from Dog that that's where I was supposed to stop. I figured he was knocking both me and DQ but, I've got to tell you, it was so much better that I decided he was really doing me a favor.
I can honestly say I've never had a better burger anywhere in the State of Oklahoma. Â Ok, so I've never eaten a burger anywhere else in the state. But it had just the right amount of grease to give it a good flavor and it didn't run down my chin and drip onto my fur before I had a chance to lick it off. And the tang of the mustard. Not sure why they need to cut it with ketchup or why, for that matter, man didn't stop experimenting with condiments once he'd discovered the mustard plant. And, knowing how indecisive people can be when presented with too many options, I thought it was nice of them to only have vanilla soft serve available. Helps speed up the lines when you get stuck behind people who aren't quite sure what they want.
Absolutely fit for a dog. Â Two dew claws up.
Do you miss Reunion Arena? Â Because this place looks just like it. Â Plus they have Blizzards. Â Now if only the Sidekicks played here too...
What were we talking about again? Â Oh right, this small-town Dairy Queen off US-69 in Oklahoma. Â For some reason small-town Dairy Queens do not seem to share menus with their city-chic cousins and I was pleased to find a chicken-fried steak sandwich on the menu. Â It was pretty good, as was the obligatory Blizzard. Â The service and patrons were also friendly and the place was fairly clean. Â
As with the other reviewer, I've driven by this place dozens of times on my way between Dallas and Fayetteville. Â This is one of the better places to stop for food, especially if you want to get a treat for the road. Â
It's also nice to know that as our Infomart stands as a tribute to Britain's long-gone Crystal Palace, Caddo's Dairy Queen keeps the memory of our once-favorite arena alive.
