It's no longer groovy grits a stupid name for a restaurant anyway. Â I used to work there and the owner was crazy and by the way is still friends with her ex-husband and her friend who is now married to her ex-husband who at the time was having an affair with him...creepy. Â It is under new ownership and is now the Arizona Cafe. Â It's all around better food and a better atmosphere. Â The lady who owns it now actually knows how to run a business.
Review Source:Groovy Gritz has closed sadly. The original owners sold it on spec to other owners who could nopt make a go of it. It is a great location and the decor was cool. I do hope someone else takes it over and re opens with better food and continues the live entertainment, music and karaoke that went on there.
Review Source:Great lunch today. Â My wife had a turkey, avocado, tomato, and green chile wrap which was delicious, and I had a Reuben (turkey AND corn beef) which was very good. Â My ratings on sandwiches sometimes can be related to the quality and the QUANTITY of the meat inside. Â This place does NOT skimp on the ingredients/meat placed inside their sandwiches.
Review Source:St. Paddy's Day in T or C! I swear I had the BEST corned beef sandwich ever at this little eclectic cafe in dusty Truth or Consequences, NM. The meat was tender, the cabbage still slightly crunchy, with authentic flavor, not just a bunch of salt. Turns out the owner used to teach culinary arts at the community college in Albuquerque and she knows her stuff. They also had a fine blues band made up of older guys who obviously had played bigger clubs, but loved their music. I had such a good time, I forgot my credit card, but the owners were kind enough to mail it to me when I figured out where I had left it. Definitely a good vibe at the Groovy Gritz!
Review Source:Yumm!! Go here! I love the way they've separated the cafe into country side and hippie "groovy" side. One half of the restaurant looks like any other country cafe with the ropes on the wall and the cowboy decor (where all the locals were sitting, by the way) and the other side has 70s furniture, a small stage for live music, and lots of  beads and fun colorful knick-knacks. Love the different yard-sale salt and pepper shakers on each table...but on to the food. By the way I of course sat on the groovy side. Yeah baby, yeah!
The food is delicious. I went with a friend after soaking in the outdoor pools at Riverbend, which is great for getting a little sun on that winter-white skin. We were so relaxed when we arrived here, and ordered burgers and beer. My friend got a Cajun-style burger and I got one with blue cheese and apples. We got the smallest sized burgers and they were still plenty large enough. We got the sweet potato fries as well. Talk about a good burger, I haven't had one that approaches this one anywhere in southern NM. Cooked perfectly, the flavors were just right, and mine was on delicious bread (ciabatta maybe?). I was stuffed, but I wanted to eat another one anyway. I love that the cafe uses fresh ingredients and makes everything from scratch.
Can't wait to go back here- the server was a little over-busy since there was just one of him, but he still did a good job and was friendly and personable.
