Thank God for Callahan's! Â When I found out I had to go to Enid for work, my first thoughts were none too positive. Â Just say the name out loud.....Enid.....not a good feeling. Â But pub food is one of my favorites and Callahan's did not disappoint.
My first impression wasn't the greatest when I walked in the front door, but I was determined to get some pub food and drinks. Â I stood up front, which is where the bar is, for several minutes before someone noticed me. Â There are times I think I have an uncontrollable invisibility cloak, and this was one of them. Â The bar was about one-third full and usually that's my choice of where to sit, but there was a table of women with those loud, obnoxious, please-pay-attention-to-me laughs that put me off right away, so I asked to be seated in the back restaurant portion.
I wanted to do some work anyway. Â Yeah right.
My server was very friendly and helpful when I told her it was my first time there. Â I decided on a cup of soup to start, and too much time has passed for me to remember what it was. Â I think it was some very good chowder. Â Then I ordered the John O'Groats platter with cod, Brussels sprouts, and shrimp. Â Somewhere in there I had a Newcastle and a Jameson & ginger ale. Â The meal was perfect. Â I also saw some other good-looking food placed in front of other diners. Â
One point that stood out to me aside from the good food, was that my dinner was served on a black plastic stand/basket/not really a basket thingy, with black and white checkerboard paper. Â Now I'm no snob. Â I've happily eaten TX BBQ with my hands on butcher paper, but the quality of food at Callahan's is better than plasticware. Â Some sturdy white plates would be good, or if money is available some cool stoneware that looks like it's straight out of ye ol' pub. Â That's not a complaint. Â Just an observation. Â My good experience at Callahan's almost makes me want to go back to Enid. Â Almost.
Decent gastropub with good comfort food and a respectable selection of beers. Cool ambiance, kind of a cross between a British style pub and a low key sports bar. Service was good for Oklahoma. Clientele is really friendly, we were sitting at a booth and still met a bunch of people. I recommend this place.
Review Source:This place has an AWESOME beer selection and the bartender was friendly and the bar was well stocked. I've been to many pubs before and I'd got to say that this place felt more like a restaurant/bar then a pub, and it would have been cooler if this place was a bit more roomier.
The food was good and along with great choices. It was kinda pricey, but going to a place like this, I would order a appetizer and drink most of the time. Their food selection was really impressive considering that it was a pub.
Overall this place is great for a small party, get together, dinner, or somewhere to grab a drink. Just expect to spend $30-$50 per person for that night. Oh and the waitresses were really nice and professional.
I love Callahan's! My husband and I go there for our "date nights" because the atmosphere is laid back and the food and drinks are fabulous! No kids allowed, number 1 reason Callahan's is #1 for date nights. The food is yummy, I love the Cedar Plank Salmon and the Alfredo. The mushrooms are also very good. I love the mixed drinks and my husband loves the beer selection.
The service is also great, friendly and attentive. They let you stay as long as you like! Enjoy!
Callahan's is one of the few places in Enid where they serve real beer. Â The tap is decent, but the real interest is in the variety of bottles they have. This is a great thing, because the mixed drinks are pretty average most of the time unless Jeff is tending bar. He does things right and can handle my uncommon mixed drinks with ease.
The food is a perfect accompaniment to the alcohol. British comfort food, pub burgers, and curries all around. I find it hard to stray from the curries, they really do bring over a piece of Britain. Bonus points for being smoke-free on the inside. Smokers still have an outdoor patio (second story patio being built as well) for their indulgence.
Update: They're doing better than ever on bartenders. Misty knows what she's doing, and anyone else I've seen has been alright too. Just keeps getting better.
It's true what the other yelpers say about Callahan's, it is full of obnoxious military guys, but my husband being one of those obnoxious military guys, I am surrounded and I surrendered a long time ago. It's not really anything particular that I like, it's just a nice venue, non-smoking, normal crowd, and great selection of beer and liquor.
I have been here a couple of times without eating so I was waiting to yelp this joint until I got a taste of the food. But first let's talk about the booze, which really can be substituted for subsistence sometimes, right? By the way, say that three times fast: substituted for subsistence sometimes.
Pretty awesome selection of bottled beer, and quite a few beers on tap as well, but I wish they had more. Some of the bottled beers that they have can really only be enjoyed properly as a draft, so that sort of takes away from the magic. They have this little booklet called a "passport" and the husband and his buddies are absolutely obsessed with it. Basically, you drink one of every beer they have, getting little stamps for every beer you try, and eventually after trying them all you get a mug and a tshirt. Nevermind that you have probably dropped $300 along the way to said tshirt and mug, nevertheless, I'm sure that it does give you a sense of accomplishment. The fact that the hubby and his other air force buddies are only here for a year adds this sense of urgency to their quest, so that is probably where the obnoxiousness comes in that they other yelpers commented on. As for shots, don't get too fancy on your requests and you will be fine.
Onward to the food. This is probably the only place I have reviewed positively that I didn't really like my meal. The menu has a ton of true British food: curry, fish and chips, meat pie, and chicken satay, as well as the normal burgers, salads, steaks, etc. We had cheese fries to start, which were amazing and the ranch it came with was to die for. Â The fries are thick cut style, authentically across the pond. Hubby got the pot roast, which was thin sliced and placed on a GIANT pile of mashed potatoes and then drowned in gravy. Each individual thing had a great flavor and mixed all together was awesome comfort food. I had their version of a french dip, which was mediocre. I should have gone with my heart and gotten one of their curry dishes. The side I ordered, brussell sprouts, was awesome. No steaming here, they cut them in half and pan fry them, giving them great texture and taste.
Since the menu has so many totally different options on it, you could probably eat here 10 times and not have the same experience. I definitely recommend this place if you are looking to bag yourself an obnoxious military guy or if you are a beer snob that pines for some authentic british grub.
This has been a hangout of mine for about 5 years now. It's a good place to start out the night, grab a bite to eat, and a couple of drinks (or more). It is 21 and over so find a babysitter. The food is good and not to expensive, the menu has everything from sliders to lobster tail. They have also recently added some items from the far east. The only knock I have on this place is sometimes the service can be slow but all in all a good place for diner and drinks without the kids.
