I have been going here for five months and boy has this place Changed since i recently visited today. I got a order of the cheese quesadilla the adult size i put a picture of the order on top so you guys can see it. As soon as i opened it i was disappointed. I got a small cheese quesadilla and it looks like its been microwaved and thrown in the box. The cheese was cheedar cheese only not three cheese. It was so thin and cheap looking i can do a better quesadilla than that it looked pathetic. Last time i got a quesadilla here it was filling and big and delicious. I called them and the lady who answered was the manager aime or jaime whatever her name is she refunded my money she asked me what was wrong with the quesadilla it looked microwaved and the cheese its white. She said that they never make the quesadilla with three cheese that's a lie i went to eat there last month and the appetizer were quesadilla with three cheese in it. The lady sounded rude and i asked her how can you serve this. I got my money back i feel like things have changed you can tell the food is different so it the drinks.
Review Source:My husband and I had been reluctant to try this place since it changed over from Bickford's (bad memories...lol) But a friend told us if we wanted some good Mexican food, then to head on over to Cancùn.
I finally convinced my husband and we stopped in. The decor is a little cheesy but we were greeted immediately, sat right away and before I had even looked at the menu hot chips and salsa were brought to the table along with glasses of water.'The chips were good, the salsa a little under-whelming but it wasn't terrible.
The menu has a lot of choices, so we looked through everything for a few minutes. The waitress came over and we sent her away so we could look some more! They have most of the basics that you might expect but you can customize many of the selections with different types of meat or none at all--they have a section for vegetarians.
I noticed a kids menu and dessert selections. They also offer a decent drink menu, though we just had water....maybe we'll go back for a mixed drink in the future?
My husband ordered a burrito and I got quesadillas. His meal looked quite heavy but burritos aren't supposed to be light...lol. He said his food was good and he ate every last bite, some with chips too:) My quesadillas were actually a pleasant surprise because they were not at all greasy or overfilled. Everything was melted and delicious and the outsides were a little crispy and not soft or smooshy. My husband used up the rest of my sour cream and guacamole with the leftover chips.
The service was good. Water was refilled promptly and the waitress made sure we had everything we needed. The bill came to us quickly as well and was a fair price for the meal we had. Cheaper than some other places we've gone.
Parking is a little weird as the lot is on a hill/slope. Getting in or out isn't difficult as there is a traffic light and so no fighting your way out near the on and off ramps of the highway nearby.
I think we will go back. It's not very fancy but the food and service were pleasant. :)
3.5 stars - For the area can't complain, chips are great, salsa decent, agree with earlier reviews-food could be spicier, and our food was lukewarm when served (but at least unlike Sam Diego's (YUK) they didn't microwave the rice and beans beyond recognition). Super friendly, cordial and attentive wait staff -a big plus in spite of ok food.
Review Source:I went here a couple weeks ago on a Sunday afternoon with my boyfriend and his young child after an overnight camping trip that left the three of us with hearty appetites. Based on reviews by other Yelp-ers, we chose this place over the other Mexican restaurant just down the road. We were happy with our choice!
The service was prompt, friendly, and the food was really tasty. The atmosphere was casual / family friendly. If you're looking for a fancy, romantic date night kind of place- this isn't that sort of environment.
For the sake of comparison with other places I've eaten, I ordered Pork Carnitas- one of my favorites. I was not disapointed. Carnitas should be somewhat carmelized on the outside  and tender enough to pull apart with your fork- you shouldn't have to cut them. These were just right. They came with a generous helping of sides, including rice, beans, guac, and some sort of salad that I hadn't previously seen. Other reviewers have said the food wasn't spicy enough, but I wonder if they bothered to ask for hot sauce. I sure did-- and it was fantastic! It was a nice, fresh, housemade sauce- probably habanero based, but with flavor, not just burn. My bf ordered a combo plate and he was equally satisfied. The little guy had a simple cheese quesadilla with fries and juice. It turned out that kids eat free (from the kids menu) on Sundays so when we received the bill, we were pleasantly surprised. I don't live nearby, but I WILL remember this place next time I'm down that way. I will certainly eat there again!
Went into Cancun's for the first time on Monday for a goodbye dinner with a friend. Our server was very authentic, but sometimes we had to ask again what he was saying. I started out with a sangria, which was one of the best I've had in awhile, and under $6! They brought us out warm chips and salsa, but we ordered Queso dip for our chips, and it was a weird, white sauce. I think it was béchamel sauce because of the color and it wasn't very cheesy. Whatever, it was only $3.99. For entrees, I had the veggie quesadilla combo, with 6 pieces of 'dilla, and my friend had a burger (double chz burger served on a sub roll.. lol). Both of our entrees were tasty. We then ordered a pitcher of mango-margarita which was good and pretty cheap $24.. but was a little too sweet.. Def. did the trick though! For desert, I got churros w. chocolate to go.. and MMMMMM... they were a delicious midnight snack! I would recommend Cancun if in the Kingston area, skip RIGHT by La Paloma!!
Review Source:We were told by a neighbor that this place was the most authentic Mexican around our parts so we had to try it. I certainly can't validate the authenticity but it sure was delicious. This is now a regular dining spot for us, and our "go to" for Mexican. (Good bye La Paloma!)
The menu is diverse and should satisfy almost everyone, including vegetarians. There is actually a section dedicated to veggie entrees. The chile relleno is delicious (very greasy and super cheesey - a tad overwhelming). I am a huge fan of chocolate mole sauce, and this place does a very good one. Dessert menu is small but decent. We've tried the flan, fried ice cream, and the churros. All good, but nothing inspiring or jawdropping.
Prices are reasonable for the portion sizes, which are huge by the way. Very kid friendly - Â kids meals are less than $5. Good size drink menu with a load of different margaritas, tequilas, and some pretty dang good sangria. Service has always been friendly and efficient for us.
This restaurant is very conveniently located on Route 3A (directly off Exit 9 on Rte 3 South). Parking spots are tight and the lot is on an incline so watch the car next to you when you open your doors!
Good solid Mexican cuisine, good service, very clean and comfortable. Homemade, warm chips and very good salsa served complimentary. I had buffalo wings which were really fried wings with a side of buff sauce & side of bleu cheese and also a small salad with cheese on the side instead of the usual celery sticks. A nice take but I wouldn't call them buffalo wings. Entree was the Pacifico Chimichanga which was deep fried burrito stuffed with scallops, shrimp, fish and veggies. It was tasty and very lightly fried, not the usual hard brown crust which was a nod to being healthy. It tasted good but I was let down by the lack of any tangible shrimp or scallops, it seamed like seafood puree. I would like to have see some chunks. All in all, a good value, fresh, well presented food and friendly service and good 'ritas.
Review Source:The waitstaff and bartender were nice. I think the decor, while queso-ey, is nice enough. I sat in the lounge and there were plenty of TVs. Â
Cancun features half-off apps during N.E. sporting events. Â I only had one item - the Idaho nachos- which is hard to screw up. Â It just a potato skin topped with pulled pork, sour cream, pico de gallo, onions (lots), etc. Â Unfortunately, the dish had little flavor. Very disappointing. Â Not sure I would go back!
I am a big fan of Cancun's Mexican food as well as the servers there. They are very friendly and always come back to check on you and replenish your drinks and chips & salsa. Speaking of salsa, I am a Mexican food fanatic and their salsa is some of the best I have ever had. I tried to get the recipe but they wouldn't give it up (can't say that I blame them).
The only two reservations I have are:
1. Sometimes (not every time) the chips sit in the warmer too long and the oils in the chips come out and re-cook them so they taste burnt when you get them. (Just ask for a new batch and they'll oblige)
2. The chicken fajitas are ready in less than a few minutes so obviously either A.) the chicken is all pre-cooked before hand or it is canned (I've been told that it's canned chicken if you have the shredded kind)
Still, you can't beat their salsa, the friendly wait staff, the queso and the carnitas! (and the very reasonably priced and delicious margaritas!)
Good basic Sonora style Mexican food. Â Much better than the new 'Mexican' restaurant down the road. Â This is the Mexican food I grew up w/ in California. Â Not fancy cuisine but they do basics well. Â Salsa and chips are very good and I recommend the shredded beef tacos. Â As good as it gets on the south shore for Mexi....
Review Source:Cancun is a decent option for Mexican food. Â Especially if you are en route to the Cape and are looking for a quick sit down meal before resuming the battle with the rest of the maniacs heading over the bridge.
It is not a place that will have you dreaming about your next meal, but it is solid, very well priced and do give you excellent service. Â There salsa was average, not as flavorful with onion and cilantro as I would like, but the chips are homemade and have a nice spice. Â Their version of chicken mole was sweeter than some and a little on the thin side. Â They serve it over sliced chicken as opposed to a full breast. Â They do a nice shrimp in a red sauce with onions and peppers, both come with average rice and beans. Â Shrimp was fresh and plentiful. Â
I would suggest sticking to the burrito/enchilada options to be safe. Â You won't leave hungry as they give you a nice portion with each order, and they have a nice Mexican beer and tequila list.
I absolutely LOVE Cancun's!!!!! The food is excellent....service is excellent and prices are excellent!! I go there at least every other week when my fiance' and I crave Mexican Food. Plus...the staff is so friendly and accommodating! Even after you ask for a third bowl of salsa! They have the yummiest salsa on the South Shore!!! I would recommend anyone looking for a fun filled atmosphere with great food and service.... go to Cancun's!! Ask for Ezey or Miguel... they are always waiting to serve you with a smile! (:
Review Source:Super nice staff always greet you with a warm Spanish welcome. Â This is mexican.. Â None of that Tex Mex crap! Â Great chips and salsa, Â authentic rice, Â great dishes in large proportions. Â Cancun burrito delicious, tamales are GREAT and I believe the house margaritas are $2. Â Love this place being from California it's the only MX restaurant I go to on the south shore ;-). Great family place or meet up for drinks and food.
Review Source:This is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants on the South Shore. Â I have eaten at Cancun quite a few times in the past couple of months. Every time, Â Ezequiel has been our waiter. Â He was very attentive and efficient. Â
A few members of my party requested substitutions to their meals and Ezequiel happily obliged.
When the food arrived, everyone got the correct meal that they ordered and the substitutions were correct. I got the chicken fajita tacos. Â I would highly recommend them. Â The chicken was all white meat and the veggies were super fresh. Â Other members of my party ordered the fish tacos and they raved about them. Â The Cancun burrito was also a huge hit at the table. Â
Due to the attentive wait staff and high quality of food, I give Cancun 5 stars! Highly recommended.
My girlfriend and I went here for lunch on a weekday, arrived 5 mins before opening and were the first ones in. Â Server was attentive and polite, a Hispanic man in his late 40s-50s. Â Ordered the fiesta platter (or the combo appetizer) to start. Â Tasty. Â Nachos were a lil sparse with toppings, but a minor complaint.
I got the three combo, cheese enchilada, ground beef taco and pork burrito, all with rice and beans. Â She got 3 soft tacos. Â I thought the entire meal was delicious, minus the ground beef. She felt the same way. Â The beef just did not have enough seasoning if any. Â The pork in the burrito was delicious and all the other sauces and cheeses were very tasty across all our dishes. Â I had the house margarita, strong and flavorful. Â We ordered the fried ice cream for... um... the posterity of this review. Â Fried ice cream was spot on as well.
Colors in the dining room were vibrant and atmosphere was pleasant and clean. Â I cannot speak to their speed of service since we were the first ones in that day and our food came out quite fast. Â This will be my go to place for sit-down Mexican now (sorry Fiesta in EB).
Cancun has very good food and the environment definitely meets the criteria of an authentic Mexican restaurant. Â Very friendly wait staff and good lunches and dinner. Â The brunch here is kind of weak so I wouldn't recommend this place for brunch. Â Things should get interesting since a new Mexican spot opened within walking distance of Cancun. Â The competition should make Kingston MA buzz worthy when it comes to good mexican restaurants.
Review Source:I was worried about Cancun. Â The first time we went, it was great... the second time a little less so. Â The third- on a Saturday night when they are busiest- was a disaster in terms of food, service and atmosphere. Â
Fear not, though- things get better.
We stopped in for a late lunch after shopping yesterday (Sunday) afternoon. We were seated immediately and as our server greeted us, another staff member was delivering warm homemade tortilla chips with salsa in individual bowls. Â The salsa fresca is pretty solid but not for those who avoid cilantro.
The main dining area consists of brightly painted, high back wooden booths that each feature a different Mexican theme in relief on the outside. Â
Our server was fantastic- friendly, responsive and attentive without hovering.
We ordered an unsweetened iced tea and pink lemonade (both $1.89), a veggie green burrito (hers) and the Veggie Fiesta (mine, both $9.50).
The Veggie Fiesta is fantastic- a cheese enchilada, a spinach enchilada, chile relleno and two servings of black beans.
The burrito is plate-sized, stuffed with black beans, rice and mushrooms and covered in a green tomatillo sauce. Â I recommend using any leftover salsa from the chips to give it a little more flavor and a little kick.
MVP: Â The chile relleno- a whole poblano pepper stuffed with cheese, breaded and fried with more cheese on top- is the best I've had. Â Unlike many others, it's not soggy. Â The poblano itself has a slight trace of heat, otherwise mostly missing from my meals here.
LVP: Â As a "family" Mexican restaurant, I understand that Cancun has to be a bit middle of the road... but they could take a few more risks. Â Everything I've had is very mildly spiced and most dinner items on the menu are covered in flavorless melted cheese. Â The spinach quesadillas and the taco salad (I've modified one to veggie in the past) are pretty underwhelming.
Avoid Saturday nights. Â Stick to the dinner plates. Â Ask for extra salsa.
This is my favorite Mexican restaurant....ever!
The food is so delicious and authentic, and no matter how busy it is, it always comes out SO fast. The margaritas are yummy and way worth the price. The wait staff is so friendly and I love the way they call you "Amiga" or "Amigo"!
We usually get the chimichanga's because they are SO amazing. Deep fried and delectable. The chips are always warm and the homemade salsa is perfect!
A visit here is a must!
I been here many times since it opened. I usually get the asado burrito or the Fajitas with steak. The wait staff is usually pretty good, although sometimes I'll get somebody who mumbles in a Spanish accent. Margaritas are fantastic! Â There are coupons for this place if you look hard enough.
Review Source:This place was descent, food prices were fair and service was pleasant.
At first they did mix up the orders but they were very prompt to make it right. The food came out super fast which leads me to believe its not super fresh but it was still tasty. I had the shredded beaf chimichanga and companion had the chicken chimichanga.
I have a bit of OCD and cant handle certain foods touching each other and they were very pleasant about ensuring my different food groups got on different plates for me.
I would go again, its not a classy or very pretty place but for a low key casual event its do-able.
Went here tonight and it was actually pretty decent. Â I'm from Arizona, like another earlier reviewer, and it's pretty good for what you'll find in MA. Â I had the chili verde, and it was alright, but I will get something else next time. Â I'd like to see how their asada stacks up to mine.
The service was INCREDIBLY fast. Â We got there at about 630. Â We had our table within a minute of getting there, our drinks within a minute (the wife had a margarita...so I'm guessing they just have a shitload of it premade because it was so quick. Â After we ordered our food, we received it within about 5 minutes of ordering...insanely nice, but you know a lot of it is all premade and ready to go.
The only thing I didn't like was how "mexican" the place tries to be. Â Mexican servers, ok that's cool, whatever. Â However, it's like it is part of their mission statement to call you senor or bonita every two seconds. Â There was this table of four girls near us, and the server made a point to use Spanish, calling them senorita or bonita every second.
I understand that they mainly do this simply because it's a Mexican restaurant in MA and people here probably like it, so I'll excuse it, but it's just kinda stupid to me.
I'm not a big fan of Mexican food, but I went here to see a friends gig. The steak and cheese sandwich (I know not a Mexican staple but I just dont like Mexican food!) was very tasty. My friends who got the Mexican food were all very happy with it. The service was friendly. The two bartenders went out of their way to keep us happy. They keep the drinks coming, and make a nice strong Margarita! If you're in the area its worth checking out.
Since I reviewed Cancun the first time, it has gone down hill. The management has no class there. I hope the good bartenders they have can move on and find a better place to work. They deserve better.
When this restaurant first opened up it looked so promising. Â In fact, the first few times I went there, I would have given it a quick 5-star rating. Â Lately, though, I've been increasingly more disappointed with the food I've been served there, so much so that I don't think I'll go back another time unless I somehow wind up trapped in Kingston, MA, desperate for a taco and a margarita.
Here are two first-hand examples of the decline in food quality I am referring to:  My most recent dining experience there consisted of  low-quality food served in modest portions for above-average prices.  I ordered the chicken taco salad, and the lettuce inside the taco bowl was so wet that the bottom of the bowl was soggy.  The chicken meat itself was bland and flavorless.  Imagine boring strips of chicken floating on iceberg lettuce encased in a soggy tortilla shell.  Gross, no?  The time before that "lovely" experience I ordered the arroz con pollo which reminded me of a dish one might receive at Applebees: rubbery chicken drowning in a "tomato" sauce which tasted more like barbecue than tomato.  The dish had obviously either been cooked fresh 8hours before and kept warm until the sauce congealed, or it had been made weeks ago, frozen and then nuked.  Mmmmm!!!  I make a very basic version of arroz con pollo at home some nights, and my arroz con pollo is gourmet compared to the dish I was served.  In fact, whenever a patron believes they would have been  better off to have cooked their own meal than to order a restaurant's version of it, it doesn't say much about the restaurant. Â
It's very apparent that this restaurant is cutting corners in the kitchen to maximize profits, because, although the quality of their food has dropped significantly since they opened their doors, their prices certainly have not.
I really wanted to like this place, but they just didn't make it easy. Â Gracias por nada, Cancun. Â Adios!!!
This is an old Howard Johnson's that became a Bickfords so the "bar" area will look familiar. Â Other than that they have done a good job dressing the place up to feel like a Mexican place. Â The first time I went here I wasn't expecting much but was impressed. Â The staff all appear to be Mexican. Â I have had enchiladas and a pork dish. Â Both were excellent. Â The warm chips and salsa are a nice touch as well. Â This is right at the top of the exit ramp of Exit 9 heading South on Rte 3. Â try it, you will be pleasantly surpised!
Review Source:Thank goodness there is finally a place you can get good Mexican food around here. Â After being appauld by Tucson Taco (ugh) and San Diego, Cancun was a delightful addition to local dining options.
The staff is overwhelmingly polite, attentive and actually speak Spanish (nice touch). Â They remember you, ask about your children if they aren't there and give great recommendations. Â
My husband and I frequent Cancun and typically get the Chili Verde (we both agree the best thing on the menu). Â I would recommend spliting it and ordering a Patron Margarita and taking it easy.
We used to live in Phoenix, and it isn't SW Mexican but it is the closest thing in MA I have tasted to it.
For a long time we have had all sort of restaurants in the area that call themselves Mexican, including Sam Diego's and the long-gone Iguana's. Â Kingston also used to have Tucson Tacos, which we miss a lot, but never really had much to do with authentic Mexican fare. Â Cancun comes close to serving authentic Mexican food, or at least what we consider Mexican north of the border.
They serve the usual Tacos, Burritos and Fajitas.  They have a pretty good vegetarian menu (considering most places have one item only).  However, their rice is not likely to be vegetarian (I think they use chicken stock).  Their mole sauce is way too sweet.  Although there are as many mole sauces as there are  cooks in Mexico.
The best part of this restaurant is the service. Â The wait staff are very attentive. Â Not to mention that they actually speak Spanish. Â Imagine that, Sam Diego's!
Last time I went there, I enjoyed eating their fiesta vegetariana while watching ESPN Deportes and drinking a Modelo Negra. Â Que bien!
