Love the selection of drinks at the full bar and the wide variety of beers (in the bottle--the on-tap list is alright, but not special). The waitstaff is usually good, but sometimes not so attentive, even at the bar.
The environment is open and friendly. I like the long room as if we were in Lawrence or someplace more historic.
The food, however, is not great at all. It seems most of it is prepackaged and heated up. Someone told me they served bar food, so I ordered nachos. OMG, they brought out a plastic tray of round tortilla chips with the little compartment of nacho cheese, like at the ball park!! And for a stupid price like $6!! I'm convinced the pizza is a frozen cheese pizza with some toppings added before they stick it in the oven. If it's not, the pizza is just tastes like it. Just weird to me. Sandwiches are ok with an ok selection of what to put on the bread.
They might consider dropping "delicatessen" from their name and this would be a great bar that happens to serve munchies. Advertising as a bar AND deli gives you the idea you can get good food too.
So the deal is this...go in, drink til you don't notice what you're munching on and all's well! I'm still going in and tipping well.
This was a good little joint. I enjoyed the atmosphere, and the food was pretty good. It was a little pricy however. I paid $7.50 for a hamburger and got water. That wouldn't be too bad except it didn't come with fries. So I was literally paying $7.50 for a hamburger. Fries would have been $2 more. Other than that, it wasn't bad.
Review Source:I spent 6 months living over the original Carl's Bar and Deli on 2nd street, but wasn't old enough to drink yet, so I just enjoyed the food. Â Now that I can only visit, I get to enjoy the drink! My other hangouts, Cowboy and Santa Fe 21, have plummeted compared to the days we hung out there.
We've been to Carl's twice over the past few months, and enjoyed it both times. Â The service was great, and my chocolate martini was delicious!! Â It was a busy Friday night (which apparently was the only place anything was happening that night), so we were lucky when we snagged a table. Â We never had to ask for refills as he was always there to check on us, yet we never felt 'pushed' to have another one. Â When the check had an error on it in my favor, the bartender/server left it as it was, although I tried to insist otherwise.
Not that I'm in Hutch often, but I think it's the new hangout for my cousin and me when I am there!
This place, newly located on Main Street, is greatly improved. Â It's open, the decor is great, and the service is pretty decent too. Â The pool tables, located right up front instead of stowed away in the back like most places, seemed to be getting a lot of action. Â
I didn't see a girly drink menu which was kind of a bummer, but they had lots of beers on tap, including the regional favorite Boulevard!
I was however really disappointed by the food. Â There was nothing really exciting about it at all. Â I was happy to get something reasonably healthy among the chips covered in cheese options, but the food here was more like bowling alley than pub. Â The onion rings were decent, but the nachos were no better than concession stand fare. Â Really probably one of the better options in town as far as atmosphere goes, too bad the food's not better!
