An interesting experience, obviously if you want to get a closer look at the Amish, this is a quick and easy way to do it. Don't forget to pick up some of their brochures to learn more about the Amish lifestyle.
Great for groups, we came here with (literally) dozens of people, and while it takes a while (like anywhere when you have that many people), they overall did a good job taking care of us.
The food was nothing spectacular, pretty typical, American, homey food. The pies were obviously the star. They had a bunch of kinds, including some kind of a brownie/cookie pie (which ended up being more just like a brownie/cookie, fyi).
Decent experience, probably wouldn't care to come back, but not unhappy with coming once.
You may never get to Yoder, Kansas, and if you don't, my what a shame. This is an Amish restaurant that has exceptional food, exceptional service, and wicked good pies. They also have Amish crafts and foods.
The rolls were fresh-baked whole wheat goodness, with the best cinnamon butter that I've ever tasted.
Meals were freshly prepared and the meats and ingredients all come from top-grade local producers. Â Food preparation was homey greatness.
The pies? Wow. Â Take your pick. They're all good.
It may look a bit like Cracker Barrel, to answer Erick H.'s laments, but that's about where the comparison stops. Â Hutchinson seems to be a local destination spot. If you're here for the State Fair, the space museum, or whatever, you really should take the 10 min trip out to Yoder. Heck, I'd take the 40-50min. trip from Wichita!
OK...so you would think that out here in the Midwest that homestyle cooking would be everywhere--not necessarily so. Â While visiting friends in Wichita, they took me here--full well knowing that I missed home-cooked meals.
The food was fabulous and the portions large. It was a treat to have home baked bread. Most of the meats (including the turkey dinner I had) were from the Yoder meats place, not to far away. Â Servers were friendly, and in my opinion--quite attractive, though almost always married--damnit. Â
In any case I would highly recommend this place as one does not always get a homecooked meal like this. In response to another patron's comments, I did not have any problems with the meat or the mashed potatoes. Â everything was perfect and I was full-quite full.
The pies are delicious as well, and one can pre-order many different flavors not often found, including special pies for whose with restricted sugar intake.
Again, highly worth it--and yes, in the middle of nowhere.
If I could have given this place 6 stars I would have.
It is not "Amish" necessarily, but it was really good comfort food. Â
**Reccomend: Get the all you can eat Family Style meal. We did a combo of the fried chicken and Roast Beef which, even at $14 a person was still a great deal. The Family style includes a drink (which is $2 anyway) and a piece of pie (which is $3-4) so the food itself didn't seem to be that much more when you factor in that we were going to get a drink and pie anyhow. Children cost 75 cents per year for the Family style and they get both a drink and slice of pie too.
Word to the wise, we all agreed that the Banana Cream Pie was our favorite.
We got there around 2 in the afternoon on a Saturday and it was super busy so I cannot imagine going during a "peak time". Â Even with it being busy the food came out quickly and the service was very friendly.
What a joke. This place is so commercialized. It is no longer the Amish experience it is advertised to be.
Bread was good, I think they still bake it. Salad was your normal dinner salad. Croutons were good. Asked if they had Bleu Cheese dressing, which they do, but they don't make it. It is Kraft.
Downhill from there. I had the Roast Beef dinner with Baked Beans and Green Beans. The beef was overcooked, dry and tasteless. The green beans were canned, but not too bad. The baked beans were actually good.
My sister had the Sausage dinner. The sausages had been cooking forever, and we're shriveled up and very dry. We both complained and our server brought her new sausage. World of difference to have fresh cooked sausage. She brought me a bowl of beef, which wasn't as dry, but was still so bad I couldn't eat it.
My Mom had the Trout, and it was pretty good. Her mashed potatoes and gravy seemed very pasty.
We won't be back unless it is for Strawberry Pie. But I hear that isn't as good as it used to be.
I had the country fried steak with mashed potatoes and green beans...absolutely wonderful! Â The meat and potatoes were covered in thick gravy and our waitress was attentive and kind. Â On top of all that, my meal was only $8.49! Â I didn't have enough room left for pie, but they certainly looked wonderful.

My favorite was probably the chicken fried steak with incredible gravy. Â You could taste the freshness of the Amish meat. Â It was like going back in time and having your Grandmother cook a home cooked meal. Â This food is straight from the farm and everyone I went with continues to talk about the food and pies to this day. Â
Just do it folks! You won't regret it!
The food is excellent, and pleased everyone in our group from age 2 to 60. We had a large group and had quick and friendly service and left full of delicious pie! I recommend making a stop anytime that you can as you pass by but it is also worth the drive from Wichita or Hutch to get out of the city and have some great 'home cooked food' by someone else!
Review Source:Pie. Yummy. Best pie ever. The have dozens of pies, though they may not all be available. You can order a pie at least one day ahead of time and pick it up to take home. They also have several sitting in a refrigerated lazy susan type thing that you can buy.
Theres other food. I like the chicken fried steak with mash potatoes and gravy and corm. They managed to cook it at the most perfect temperature ever. Their chili is ok-though I like Texas Roadhouses better. I wasn't quite as impressed with the breakfast. Thought (and hoped) it would be a lot more greasier.
While youre in town you can swing by Yoder Meats (not sure about the tongues they had sitting in the fridge) or the Dutch Mill Bakery (cinnamon rolls /droooool) and some other shops.
My husband and I usually stop here with my parents en route from the Wichita airport back up to the Salina area when we come out for visits.
In seventh grade, I rode a school bus through Yoder, every day to and from school. It's a quiet Amish community.
It's good solid, mid-Western food for a great price. The pies are what you wish your grandma could bake for you every day.
If you're in the Hutchinson area, it's worth a drive out to Yoder to eat here.
Honestly, I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet. Â I worked here in high school and know first-hand that the kitchen is clean. Â The little Amish ladies come in at 4am everyday to make pies, breads, soups and gravies from scratch. Â They will never sell pie that's more than a day old. Â A lot of the meats come from the processor right across the street. Â The ham steak on the menu is probably the best bet. Â It's local, and doesn't remotely resemble any ham you've ever had in a restaurant before. Â
My favorite, the hot hamburger sandwich. Â It's freshly processed meat on baked that day country white bread, served with your choice of brown or white gravy.
Breakfast is always amazing, but make sure you get there early, they stop serving at 10 am, and often run out of the plate size cinnamon rolls long before that. Â My favorite- eggs, hashbrowns and out of this world biscuits, for 4$. Â This place is famous for it's coffee. Â Always hot and good quality!
Just an FYI, Yoder is an Amish community, named after the most common surname there. Â You'll often find lots of Amish men in their black hats sitting in the front section. Â There horse and buggies and tractors are out in the parking lot. Â The gift shop features lots of local goods, and you can check out the old-fashioned hardware store or lots of other amazing shops on main street while you're here. Â This restaurant was featured in Taste of Home magazine, and we had visitors from all 50 states after that article went to press.
They are not open on Sundays, and they close at 9PM.

I had the pecan pie a la mode, my girl had the peach pecan pie ...both were terrific. Â I like how they give you generous portions here. Â
This restaurant is located in Yoder and it reminds of how someone with a southern accent might call Yoda. Â Random.
The restaurant is fairly big, family style with a cute little gift shop in the front -- very warm country style.
Go for the pie, there's really not much else around Yoder to see except maybe Amish people riding in their horse and carriage or tractors. Â Fun times! Â And no I'm not being sarcastic.
Very nice place in the middle of nowhere :) I can't even remember how I found out about this place since its so remote and in a place where you wouldn't normally go unless you have a reason to go. It's old style traditional American food which is fresh, less processed with a great customer service. I've had fried chicken and country fried steak here. Desserts are great too, apple pie with ice cream, oh heavenly :)
