Again, lack of food options in these little settlements. There was a Subway, but, yeah, no thanks. It was so dire here: various gas stations serving pizza that were all off branded places, one serving Hermie's special (Godfather's), and it looked terrible, so I decided to brave it and try some pizza at Casey's. Â This was my first time trying food items from Casey's.
Incidentally, Casey's has quite a selection of take away food items for breakfast, lunch, and dinner some self serve and some cook to order. I was in at lunch, but noticed the dinner runs until 10:30 PM which is pretty late. They have sandwiches, pizza, some chicken items, and various other random fried items. They also have a pretty large selection of baked goods such as donuts, cookies, cupcakes, muffins, and brownies that they make in the location.
The pizza is sold in slices for a couple bucks each or you can get a whole pizza fresh made. Smalls are around $10, which seems sort of expensive but when you are starving for food options price does not really matter. The whole pizza took about 20 minutes and the topping selection is very basic. Anyway I was actually really impressed by the pizza. I was expecting terrible. It was actually overall alright. I'd eat it again I guess. The cheese was good; firm, not stringy or greasy, and properly cooked. Crust was thin and didn't have much flavor. Sauce tasted decent. They weren't that generous with the toppings.
I also picked up some sort of a small cake or brownie slice. It seemed to be some sort of a spice or perhaps pumpkin cake slice topped with a cream cheese (maybe their version of carrot cake, but it lacked raisins or carrot shreds), and it was fresh and pretty good.
Also tried some Casey's Coffee. They only had two flavors going, regular and decaf, but the coffee was hot and tasted average for a convenience store.
I think I ended up paying close to $15 for my small pizza, cake slice, and drink. Expensive for a gas station dinner. Really expensive. -1 star for the robbery pricing.
Employees were real friendly.
