I try to visit this place whenever I come into Albany for work. Â I think the food is really good, the service is very attentive and the prices are very reasonable. Â The few times I've been here (usually on a Wed or Thu evening), they'll have a DJ who plays an eclectic mix of music that I have enjoyed. I really like this spot and plan to visit again on my next trip.
Review Source:Was not impressed by the service or the food. Â
As far as the food went, the menu was extremely limited. Â Don't expect to get filled up by the portions either. Â
The beer was ok, but could have been colder.... by far.
The staff was friendly enough when I could get their attention, but they were mostly young women who seemed more preoccupied with chatting up their bff's than taking care of their customers.
i enjoy the atmosphere at this place, but unless you have a table the service is extremely poor. the bartenders are slow and they tend to serve familiar faces no matter how long others have been waiting.
this would not be an issue if it didn't happen over five or six consecutive visits. it seems with the high volume of guests, more bartenders would be staffed.
the entertainment is hit or miss here as well. for such a great venue with so much interest from local patrons, i expect more consistency in the bands and DJs hired to perform.
overall, this is a cool place, and with time the ownership may develop service standards like those found at other well-known local establishments.
They serve and English Pint of Guinness(larger than a US pint) for $5.50 which isn't bad but the drinks are small and it costs $7.00 for a Tanqueray. Â Servers all wear Kilts(even though it's an Irish Pub). Â One Irish pub dish per day during the week for $7.95-Shepard's Pie, Corn beef & Cabage, Bangers & Mash but I was charged $9.95 for my Shepard's Pie. Â It's no smoking with dart boards in the back. Â But here is a weird thing-at night there is a guy outside the door who pats everyone down for WEAPONS! Â No kidding. Â They did a good job fixing up the old Gumbys but we will see if they have staying power.
Review Source:Very crowded, as is any new restaurant in Albany. I really liked this place. Great decor, there are giant barrels set up as tables that seat about 6 people. Full bar with Irish beer on tap. They offer some traditional Irish meals such as bangers and mash, and corned beef and cabbage. They offer specials that are served on certain days. I found that to be kind of annoying as I was dead set on some bangers and mash, but they only serve that dish on Mondays.
We ordered the hummus appetizer and it was great. It was server with what tasted like made from scratch pita bread that was excellent. I had the fish and chips which I enjoyed. The fish was battered and very tasty and the 'chips' where thick cut french fries that were delicious. My wife, who was not feeling very adventurous ordered the chicken salad and was not impressed. One of our friends ordered the chicken wings and received a plateful of 'em, which he enjoyed.
I will defiantly be heading back to the Cask and Kilt on Monday for the bangers and mash. I'll report back to let you all know how it is.
