Can't agree with all the raves here. We joined another couple for a weekday lunch, and all four of us were disappointed. Briefly, the entree salads were all iceberg lettuce that wasn't completely fresh. Balsamic vinaigrette dressing was like white vinegar, only brown. Â The chicken breast in my wife's salad was badly overcooked-dry and chewy.
The house specialty French onion soup was thick (not the expected beef broth) and not particularly flavorful.
The Reuben sandwich was listed on the menu as having Russian dressing. There was none.
Our server returned only once to refill iced tea glasses and never offered dessert. As we were leaving, we noticed Fiddlesticks Cafe across the street. Based on the good reviews here on Yelp, we'll go there next time. As the tuna commercial used to say, "Sorry, Charley." We won't be coming back.
We loved our dinners at Charley O's. Six of us ate ordering from all parts of the menu and we all were very happy. Our waiter Rich is a treasure. One warning is that the portions are very large. Everyone said we should have shared orders except me who ordered a salad which was big but I was able to polish it off. Dad especially like the trout and the delicious chocolate lava cake.
Review Source:I ate here tonight for the first time. I'm in Elkhorn on business for a few days and plan to return tomorrow. The food was delicious and fairly priced. My server was efficient and friendly and not over-bearing. No pressure to order quickly or clear my place. Thank you for that. Wonderful music playing in the background and good cocktails make this a terrific choice for dinner.
Review Source:Favorite restaurant in the area and worth the drive. Â They took the best from their former Williams Bay location, updated everything, and moved to Elkhorn. Â Love the new menu with more options, but most of all, LOVE LOVE LOVE the french onion soup. Â To die for! Â Entree portions are so huge we sometimes split an entree with an extra order of soup. Â Veal Parmesan is good, ribs are tasty, haven't tried the wood-fired pizza yet but it looks like a hit. Â I'm getting hungry just thinking about this place....
Review Source:My son and I went here for a late lunch today, I had chicken pesto and he had Italian beef. His was bland and mine tasted like a frozen chicken beast that was boiled and grilled making in tough and tasteless. The service was the only thing worse than the meal. Alexandra could not have been less interested is good service. She checked on us once and we had to ask for refills on our drinks. There was no offer or asking about deserts, she just set the check down and said she could take it whenever we wanted. I wished we had just driven right on by and never stopped. Â One of the worst meals I have ever had. I also forgot to mention that they have dining room rules, ridiculous. Like this is a fancy place, not.
Review Source:This is definitely one of my top three restaurants in Walworth County. Â Charley O's is always a great standby when relatives come into town, and they've never disappointed me. Â I've had pretty much everything on the menu, and it's all delicious. Â The biggest pluses are the homemade salad dressings, Wisconsin beer selection (Leines and New Glarus and the usual suspects if you're not feeling adventurous) and especially, the pizza. Â My wife loves the macaroni and cheese pizza, but I'm pretty much a fan of all of them.
I gotta give the chef credit - it's a menu that anybody can appreciate. Â Give it a try if you're in Elkhorn.
I held my wedding rehearsal dinner here in Sept 2010 for a group of 26 in one of their private rooms. Â We had the BBQ ribs, chicken marsala and grilled salmon. Â All were delicious and the staff & service was competent & efficient. Â They take their cue from you and do not rush the evening. Â Easy to work with them in planning over the phone. Â They let me decide upon how to lay out the tables in the room. Â We had a cocktail hour with passed appetizers and then sit-down dinner with wine pour and followed by dessert and coffee. Â Well done! Â I would dine here again. Â Nice casual atmosphere.
Review Source:Just noticed that my  review of CO's was the OLD one....new one, in Elkhorn, is a much more current / diverse place to eat.  One of our favorites, or at least of my better half's....is the DUCK....only on Friday nights....roasted 1/2 duck over rice with veggies of some sort....wonderful.  Also has a number of other good dishes.  Fish fry is good; small pizzas make a light dinner; listen to the specials as well....made myself hungry...may go there tonight!
Review Source:We live nearby and my wife and I love Charley O's. It's a great place to go for fish on Friday's - you can get the daily special fried, baked or broiled. Plus, you don't get treated like a second class citizen for ordering it - here - you still get a bread basket along with your choice of a nice salad or soup. Pasta courses are also great here as are the salmon and specialty pizzas. Great upscale bar area and a nice patio in warmer months. Charley and his pretty wife are typically in house and mixing with the crowd and making sure everything is going well. One of our favorites.
Review Source:This place is the bomb, esppecialy since it is in my hometown of williams bay! Â I know the owner and his wife and they are the sweetest couple. Â If you decide on making the best choice of your life i recomend the french onion soup or the pulled duck. Â Also try there sunday brunch because i am not kidding you they have the best cinimon rolls EVER! So take a bite out of Charley o's!!!
