The food was delicious!! Trey and I both ordered the fried catfish. They only serve whole catfish no fillets. They also have fried or boiled shrimp and fried oysters. All meals are served with coleslaw, french fries, onions, lemon slices and hush puppies. The meal came with 2 LARGE whole catfish that were more than enough to fill up anyone. Everything was seasoned and cooked perfectly and I would definitely go back there to eat again. So if you are ever in Ellisville, MS be sure to stop in and have a great meal at Charlie's Catfish House!
Review Source:It's a "must go" in Ellisville, Ms. Is it the best food you will ever eat? No but it's a place you will remember. It is a bit of a hole in the wall place across from the county jail but it's a classic. Clean environment, friendly service, fresh catfish... What more could you want? Go alone or take a group, have a good time and soak up the local charm!
Review Source:This is your typical Mississippi catfish dive restaurant with a simple menu focusing on catfish. Â They don't do filets of catfish here and only serve it whole on the bone. Â They also have some of the best boiled shrimp in the area but sadly that's not saying much as it is pretty bland and really could use some garlic and a lot more seasoning. Â They have the typical catfish house coleslaw drowning in mayonnaise but it is still decent along with a few more fried seafood choices. Â I think my favorite things here are the hushpuppies and french fires. Â They only take cash and the service is often unacceptably slow. Â The ambiance is a concrete block building with a large open space crammed full of tables which makes it get really loud in here when its crowded and it gets crowded often .
Review Source:Stopped here on our way to Tuscaloosa. Not far off the highway, dancing catfish on the sign so you can't miss it. Real local place, waitress knew everyone by name and was very nice and friendly. Small town charm here! Had the fried catfish (house specialty). Note: One order of catfish comes with two fish, hush puppies, fries, cole slaw and crackers. Definitely enough for two people. Catfish was awesome, literally the entire fish: breaded and fried.
Stop by if you're in the area. Cash only!
Just so we all know... there is no decline in taste or service here. Â :-)
While visiting family over the Thanksgiving Holiday we all went out to eat for 'Thanksgiving Eve'. Â The choice was a group one (as we all grew up in the area - and this place has been around THAT long!)
So off to Charlies.
The perfect coleslaw served with crackers as a starter (instead of bread) is still heavenly. Â I'd almost content it's the best coleslaw you'll ever have.
Menu is still very simple and to the point, with their 'prized bull' being the Fried Catish. Â A full fillet fried to perfection with some seasoning in the mix. Â Just a fantastic treat. Â We also grabed a plate of boiled shrimp to pass around. Â You have to shell yourself, but they are cooked to perfection with just the right amount of spice (crab boil) mixed in to make it great.
This is one place you can't go wrong, and should definitely find and try. Â Simple food made well that taste great. Â You will NOT be dissapointed with this selection.
Also, for the record:
The map here on yelp shows it directly off the interestate/hwy. Â It's really about a 1/4 mile or so from it. Â When you exit to route 11, just drive toward Elliville and it will be on your left. Â Small sign with what looks like a dancing catfish on it. Â :)
This place is a great find. Â We read the Yelp review by Mike G while driving down the highway and were just 2 miles away looking for a place to eat. Â Pulled in and had a fantastic lunch. Â Perfect catfish, homemade fries, Â great coleslaw & savory hushpuppies. Â My glass of ice tea was served with a personal sized pitcher on the side & they gave me a to-go cup so I could take the rest with me. Â Great murals painted on the wall (along with the limited menu: Â catfish, shrimp, oysters, hamburgers). Â Stay away from the chains and eat here for a taste of regional American food.
