Got to love a winery that is not only dog friendly but donates a portion of their proceeds to canine charities.  Setting is beautiful among the mountains.  Helpful and knowledgable staff, great value tasting.  Their Blackberry wine is my favorite.  They also sell some of their wines in grocery stores/Walmart in NOVA but I have not been able to find their Blackberry wine.

They serve food but I did not get a chance to try.

I am a big fan of Black Dog, I have eaten here and the food was amazing. Took a tour of the winery and the scenery is gorgeous. They sell their wine in grocery stores in the area and quite a large distance beyond.

Great food but a bit pricey and the drive isn't the most spectacular.

An $8 wine tasting takes you through 10 pours, and you get to keep the glass. I wish there was an option to forego the glass (since my cabinet always seems to fill up with branded cups just as quickly as I get rid of them). But the tasting was well-presented; our guide explained each well and offered really great pairing suggestions. If you weren't paying attention, they do have a helpful sheet that breaks down the per-glass and per-bottle price of each, as well as the Aroma, Palate, and Pairing notes. The line-up when we went featured too many sweet wines, in my opinion. (Then again, those Moscatos and Blackberry wines were my mom's favorites!) Most of the bottles are priced at $11, which is very reasonable. And I love that they have homemade dog treats for sale (in keeping with their doggie mascot). There are several places to sit and enjoy something on site. A small deck attached to the winery and gift shop, a brick patio (where a wedding was taking place when we visited), and a large grassy lawn with picnic tables and an amphitheater at bottom, and cute little pergolas at top.

The accompanying nibbles leave something to be desired, however; especially given the apparent notoriety of the restaurant. We had planned to get a cheese plate, but learned that they only have cubed cheese (like what you would get on a party platter at the grocery store). Similarly, they don't serve oyster crackers or any palate cleanser during their tastings.

Had the Sunday brunch buffet, and it was pretty. Corn bread salad, hoppin' john rice and the ham & cheese quiche were very good. The desserts were also good, especially the cookies. A little pricey though, unless you're really hungry.

While visiting my parents, who live near, we, along with sister and her husband, decided to have an outing at the Chateau Morrisette Winery.  We loved the wine tasting in the winery, then headed to the restaurant for lunch.  Service was great, the setting spectacular, and the food did not disappoint.  The well-balanced menu offered many choices.  Each of us were very pleased with what we got and we will definitely be back.  My parents have decided this is where they will return for their 54th anniversary dinner.  A true gem for this area.

We visited Chateau Morrisette on Presidents Day on the way back to Norther Virginia from North Carolina and what a great experience we had! Rachel conducted our tasting at the bar right after a short tour of the facility with the tasting room manager. She hosted a WONDERFUL tasting, great personality and she was very funny as well. They wines were very good and if Chateau Morrisette were in a more convenient location for us I'm sure we would be there all the time. Great job!

Inexpensive, fun winery tour. Breathtaking Parkway location. Wonderful restaurant - pricey.

This place is AMAZING!!!!! The restaurant is sophisticated, cozy, and tastefully done, without the pretentions. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I am a pescetarian, and I wanted to get the shrimp and grits (which is made on a meat base), and the waitress said the chef would be able to accommodate and cook my dish on an a vegetarian base. The food is DELICIOUS!!!!!! I seriously have not had one bad thing there. I love the wines, and I like how they say which wines go best with what. The location and the complex are beautiful, and I love how their mascot is a dog!

I recently went to Chateau Morrisette for dinner with my boyfriend a month ago and we are STILL talking about how delicious our meal was. I would more than recommend their shrimp and grits, which is my usual favorite, however anything on their menu is a safe bet. My boyfriend started with a poached pear and walnut salad. Neither of us wanted to stop eating it. For dessert I had a pumpkin pie crisp. It was light and fluffy, like a cheesecake, with a crunchy pecan crust. My boyfriend had baked alaska, a delightful surprise addition to their dessert menu. Both were good enough to eat despite the fact that we had already stuffed ourselves on our entrees.

The atmosphere at Chateau Morrisette is also as good as it gets. They have a great wine bar where you can enjoy their own wines while you wait. I recommend Our Dog Blue and Red Mountain Laurel. There are also tours and wine tastings available. The restaurant itself has a nice and cozy atmosphere with an old world charm and a wood burning fireplace for those chilly winter nights.

A few tips if you plan on visiting....1) Make reservations at least a day in advance. 2) Be prepared to spend a little more (you'll definitely get your moneys worth). 3) Do NOT rely on your GPS to get you there. They have directions from most locations in the SW VA area available on their website.

Really enjoyed my visit to this winery. I did the wine tasting. We were told we would be going through a flight wine 10 types of wine. The person doing the tasting was very personable and engaging. We were doing a tasting with full tasting bar of people. I was amazed that he was able to be so engaging with such a large group of people. I really enjoyed the Dog Blue Wine which was similar to a German Style Riesling.  We ended up tasting about 12 different wines and and a couple of blends. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. The estate is beautiful and I can't wait to visit them again in the summer months.

Went there on my first anniversary...loved it!  Had some great wine on their tour and the people were pleasant.  Go if you get a chance.

I really enjoyed visiting the winery. Beautiful location. Friendly people. The menu looked delicious but our restaurant experience was horrible.

First, we had to wait. Not because the dining room was full but so that the maitre'd could figure out his computer. When we were seated we were given menus, water, bread and then left alone for 20 minutes. Not a good idea with a three year old at lunch time.

Finally, when we walked our, the man who appeared to be the manager did not seem the least bit concerned that paying customers were walking out the door. To be honest, he seemed to be relieved that a family with a child was leaving his pristine location.

I'm sure the food is amazing, given other reviews. Anyone can have a bad day. But at least acknowledge it when you let a customer down so much that they walk out without even the benefit of ordering.

(I was going to order the shrimp and grits, btw).

I can't really say enough about the restaurant at Chateau Morrisette.  Every time I have dined there (always during lunch), I have gotten exceptional treatment form the wait staff and every other employee with whom I have had contact.  They have gone above and beyond their duties to make sure I have had a good experience.

The food is most enjoyable.  On my last visit, my friend and I shared an array of appetizers- mostly seafood-centered.  (That seems odd up in the mountains, well over an episode of Hawaii 5-0 form the ocean), but the quality was exceptional.  (Crab beignets and salmon belly wontons were particular standouts.)

The atmosphere here is classy, yet rather casual.  From dining room to dining room, the decor varies- but it always comfortable, always makes you feel at home.

Another note about the staff:  Even when I have eaten here with a group of 15, they handled us gracefully and competently.  They even bent their rules on splitting checks for large groups- and for that, we were extremely grateful.

I have no hesitation at all to recommend dining at CM.  It's something I do every year, when I'm up in the area.

Stopped over for our honeymoon! Delicious wine, friendly, helpful staff and a wonderful tour around their brewery! We took some wine back with us, and I look forward to getting a couple of bottles again.

I've never had a bad experience at Chateau Morrisette. Needless to say, some are better than others. Dinner at 7:00 p.m. on New Year's Eve was one of the best yet. We arrived intentionally early so we could sit at the bar and enjoy a glass of wine. I was here introduced to an intriguing house "winetail" called the Bloody Indy--a concoction of their Independence white wine, tomato juice, and potent spices. A startlingly good drink, though more akin to a Red Eye (an old favorite of mine) than an actual Bloody Mary. We were seated right on time, and our server had excellent knowledge of the menu and perfect timing for checking on us. I prefer the more cozy dining rooms to the larger one where we were located, but we did have a choice location within the room, a little tucked away to be a bit more romantic than out in the middle area. I ordered the filet mignon (cooked medium) and Ms. B. had the peanut-crusted chicken. Both dinners were flawless in preparation, proportion, and presentation (how's that for alliteration?). I highly recommend the Cab Franc; one of their best wines. Also of note is the Black Dog, which has been one of our long-time favorites, as both of us prefer medium-dry reds. We opted to share a single dessert (the pumpkin crisp), which proved to be the right decision, because it was massive--not to mention delicious.

I'm almost surprised Chateau Morrisette doesn't have a New Year's event till midnight--that would be most enticing--but as it was, everything about the evening proved better than excellent. An absolutely positive recommendation from me.

I had heard such good things about this place from friends on their wines and outdoor concerts but on 2 recent trips I came out wondering where the customer service was.

First of all, it's not the easiest place to find.  I had a guide from the Blue Ridge Parkway and drove back and forth on the parkway before turning on a road and found Winery Rd by chance.

When I stopped in the winery, I looked around but couldn't really find any real organization to the store.  I was looking for assistance but there was no one in sight except for the person doing the wine tastings.  So I head over  there.  Stand there for about 10 minutes and not even an acknowledgement from the person pouring the wine.

Apparently Customer service is not a priority for this place so I decided there was not going to be a 3rd visit and left.  There are plenty of other places along the parkway that I am sure would appreciate my business and I should be supporting the NC wineries instead.

I absolutely love this place!  It's set right off the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia.  I'm especially fond of the winery as I grew up not too far from there and my family still owns some land in the area.

The winery itself is very nice and modern and all of the wine is so great!  If you ever get a chance try the Blackberry wine...I've gotten tons of compliments on it whenever I've showed up with a bottle.  All of their wines are in the $8-$20 or so range.  You can purchase them at Harris Teeter, Lowes Foods, etc.

The restaurant's food is superb in my opinion and offers a nice view of the mountains.  The inside of the restaurant is a tad bit dated though.  Another perk to eating in the restaurant is that the bottles of wine are priced the same as they are at the winery!  It's also not a bad idea to get reservations.

They also have a summer concert series on the lawn with various bands that's always a lot of fun!

I can't wait to make another trip up there, it's a definitely a special place!

While we were out on our Blue Ridge Parkway jaunt, we happened across these signs that advertised Chateau Morrisette as having some of the best views in the area.  Being all for good views, we decided that we should stop in.

Of note is that we appeared to find that location seven miles down the road from where the Parkway had been open.  We crossed over it and found our way to the winery, no thanks to the signs, because there were none to be found.  Only a street sign proclaiming the street "Winery Road" (probably a good bet if you are looking for a winery, right)?

A bit further down the road, we found a villa-looking place and pulled into the lot, only to find the restaurant.  So we hoofed it across the parking lot and a huge patch of ice and into the winery itself.  At least, into the gift shop.  It was nice enough, but there was not much to be seen that you could not find at any other winery anywhere else in the country.

And the view?  It is okay.  If you are down the road at Lover's Leap, the view is a whole lot better.  But you probably should not try and have a wedding there.

Service was good and nice location, but I would never eat here again. It was very bland and expensive. Wine was ok.

I sat outside with my boyfriend and enjoyed a three course meal and wine on their beautiful patio overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains. We watched the sunset, had six glasses of wine, and a delicious meal. It was very romantic. We love their frosty dog ice wine; we even bought a bottle to take home with us! Ashley was our server, and she was so sweet! I am a raw foodist and they were very accommodating and made me a delicious three course raw meal. My boyfriend really enjoyed his steak. The scenery was amazing. It was truly a wonderful evening.

DISCLAIMER: I have never actually eaten at the restaurant here, only toured the winery and enjoyed my fair share of the wine, and I am probably about a thousand times less classy than most of the people who have already written a review.

    HOWEVER.

Their tour is really outstanding. I have been on winery tours before, but never one where the guide was so friendly and willing to answer questions. After the tour you can do a tasting of about 10 of their wines for 5 bucks, and you get to keep the wine glass.

The winery is in a beautiful setting off the Blue Ridge Parkway, so it's worth it to walk around and check out the property. It's only a stone's throw away from one of my favorite places to hike in Floyd, the one and only Buffalo Mountain. Their wine is fantastic and I drink it as often as possible.

Again, if you are in your early 20s and poor like us, eating at the restaurant would probably be a splurge. But if you like wine, the winery is definitely worth a stop during your parkway travels.

Great place to visit, especially if the labradors are on the trip with you.  It is the Black Dog Winery for a reason.  It is a little off the beat and path, but it is definitely worth the trip.  A great distraction for a few hours.  Take the tour.  Sample the wine (wine tasting).  Even visit the restaurant.

Visited this winery for a tour and for dinner - it was fantastic!  The winery is very cool and the tasting helps find wine that suits your pallet.  The dinner was elegant and delicious!  Great take on tenderloin - and the swordfish was lemony and light.  The dining room was just a little dated but other than that - great food and great service!

I like this place.  Its not of the highest quality, but it is a great introduction to VA wine if you haven't had it before, and it is a great place if you just like VA wine!  They aren't the deepest or boldest, but they are inexpensive and of good quality.  I liked the Merlot (of all things) and I found their reds to have more punch than I had expected.  Also, their Viognier does all the right things that you want from VA's premier white grape.

It is a huge place, with everything you could possibly want to buy affixed with a wine glass, a dog, or both in most cases.  I didn't find it off putting.  The staff was some of the best I've experienced in VA and I enjoyed myself.

I also tried the restaurant.  The prime rib was very good and the crab cakes were almost all crab... very delicious.  They help you pair the meals with their wines... the Cab Franc with the prime rib was fantastic.  Its almost fancy dining... not exactly what you'd expect in NOVA (no dress code, no pretentions), and its worth your stomach if you're in the area.

The reason for only three stars (because I realize this sounds like a higher rated review)?  Well, I just wanted something slightly more... there's no BIG winner of wine.  I like a signature wine or a powerful deep tannic red... there isn't one.  Its all very safe, well done, but no real passion.  I think that's what doesn't quite push it over the edge.  I implore you to stop by though if you're in the area.

Offering a wide variety of wines, an intimate fireplace-warmed lounge and a rustic restaurant, Chateau Morrisette is worthy stop off of Virginia's beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway.

I find Chateau Morrisette to be one of the better Virginia wineries, by far.  I've visited the winery twice, both times eating in the restaurant and doing the tasting in the main building.  On my first visit, I participated in the tour as well.

On a positive side, they offer a wide variety of wines, ranging from the bold cabernets to the very sweet 'ice' wines.  Their modest tasting fee gets you sips of nearly all of their wines and you can keep your tasting glass.  Their prices are fairly inexpensive with the exception of some reserve and dessert wines, but they tend to be more expensive anyway.

The main tasting building offers a grand, multi-story entrance, solid wood framing throughout and the warmth of roaring fireplaces.  Also found in this building are countless numbers of wine related gifts.  This is one of if not the busiest wineries in Virginia, so expect crowds and a less intimate experience.  For a more intimate tasting experience, visit Chateau O'Brien in Markham, VA.

The restaurant and lounge area offers sweeping mountain and valley views along the picturesque Blue Ridge Parkway.  Like the wines, the food at Chateau Morrisette is just okay.  Both visits for lunch left me desiring more tasteful food.  If they could improve upon food taste and quality of wait staff, this would be a great place for lunch.  As of now, just okay.  Although, for the Floyd/Meadows of Dan area, one of the nicer places.

For the Virginia wine lover and travelor of the Blue Ridge Parkway, I recommend an afternoon stop at Chateau Morrisette.

They have a lot of wine and many inexpensive ones.  The wines are consistently good.  It's directly off the Blue Ridge Parkway so the views are great.  The place is huge.  It is one of the biggest operations in Virginia and feels like it (that may not necessarily be "bad news" if the staff is friendly).  Unfortunately the woman who led our tasting was informative but made me feel a little like youknowwhat because I bought only one bottle of wine to go.  The place is like Horton....if you like big, congested tasting rooms where you rub elbows with strangers while tasting, amid chaos--this is your place.

I really enjoy their wines here. Especially the whites, I am a big fan of Viognier and they have a wonderful one here. The tasting room is large, but I prefer to grab a bottle along with a picnic and sit outside on the deck. This place is located just off the Blue Ridge Parkway.
