This is seriously one of the worst restaurants I have ever visited, and up until very recently, it was more or less your only option for a bar in downtown Murphy.
It's loud. Sure. OK. It's a bar. But it is TOO LOUD when you have to scream directly into your waitresses ear to be heard. On the subject of the waitresses, they are awful. I believe either the waitresses don't get paid enough to feel like they need to do their job, or the place is incredibly understaffed, because you can expect to wait anywhere from one to two hours for your meal, even if you just ordered something straightforward like wings or fries.
I don't know who is staffing that kitchen but I assume its someone's nephew, because half of the time they get the orders wrong. I've been served on dishes that didn't look clean. Portions are pathetically tiny for what you pay... this is not upscale dining, it is a BAR, and needs to get over itself! You cannot charge me almost $15 for a stuffed mushroom and then deliver to me something about five inches in diameter.
Let's say you don't care about the food... you came to drink. Prepare to pay $3 for a beer... ANY beer, and $8-12 for any mixed drink. That's in a small glass, by the way! They don't do any kind of specials or sales on drinks except for on nights where they know it's going to be dead, like Tuesdays. It used to be you could get cheaper wings on Wednesdays and $1.50 beer drafts... no longer! They've cut out essentially all sales and raised prices to try and cope, I suspect, with competition. If there was a way to give this place a negative score, I would.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU EAT HERE!
Stopped here actually b/c the other place we were going to try is closed on Sundays. Went inside got seated and ordered. Mozzarella sticks and my wife's salad came out quickly. Mozzarella sticks were great. Salad(so i was told) was good too. Â Not sure what took so long for the burgers but they were just okay. I have had better and worse. Not a fan of the buns they use and the fries were not hot. My guess is they were cooked first then the burgers and that's why they were cold. I also have to mention that if a salad is included but someone doesn't want a salad it should not be a big deal to get something else. Either that or give me some money off the meal. After a little prodding I got extra fries(which turned out to be cold) instead of salad. For the price we paid the meal was okay but I don't think I see us going back.
Review Source:We stopped for lunch and as there was nobody working the front, we sat ourselves. A staffer came by and seemed surprised that we were there, but was very cordial explaining that they were super busy and would probably have a 25 min. wait. That was no problem. We got our drinks quickly, and ordered. Salads arrived soon after and our entrees came without a very long wait. The food was really good, we had to ask for the rolls that came with one dish and also ketchup for fries. We opted for dessert and coffee. The coffee came in cups that looked like the belonged to a child's tea set, never saw such small cups (not demitasse, but close) Anyway, we waited for over 5 minutes for our server, Brittini (yes, with an i) to reappear to ask for a coffee set-up (milk, sugar, spoons). Dessert was good and all in all it was a very pleasant experience and I'm sure we will go again. Gave it 4 stars because of the glitch in service but have no complaints about the food other than the fries could have been hotter.
We had the Monte Carlo sandwich, and chicken alfredo. Both very yummy, and bread pudding for dessert. Also yum.
We went to Chevelle's on the recommendation of a woman who works at the Harley store we were in because the hubs was looking for pegs for his Honda. Â Yeah, never again for Chevelle's. Â We thought it would be one of those fun places that has a theme to it but when you walk in it's one of those places that just doesn't know what it wants to be. Â There is all sorts of stuff on the walls that just doesn't go together and looks more like a garage sale than anything. Â Is that reason enough to not go back? Â Not really, but the food and service is. Â I ordered the Rock Crawler which is supposed to have Grilled Vegetables, Portabella Mushrooms, Fresh Mozzarella - served w/Pesto & Balsamic Reduction. Â There were zero portabella mushrooms on the sandwich. Â Zero. Â Instead I was served a cucumber sandwich with tomatoes and onions. Â What? Â I looked on the menu and realized I wasn't crazy. Â They had made my sandwich totally wrong. Â The hubs ordered the cheeseburger which he said was actually really good. Â We both ordered the fries but neither of us thought they were very good at all. Â They were very cheap tasting. Â I'm sure you've had fries like this at places before where you're sitting there going WTH? Â
The service wasn't good either. Â Sorry, but no one wants to sit and listen to the servers screaming back and forth across the whole restaurant (no joke) to each other and to the cooks. Â It's a very open place and there was no reason to do that at all. Â The server station was located behind my husband. Â This is where they enter they add up the checks. Â Our server was standing there adding up several checks and she would scream across the restaurant to another server that she needed x amount of beers, or whatever drinks someone else was having, Then server #2 would scream back. Â Then the bartender got in on it and all three were screaming back and forth. Â And all of them were yelling at the cooks about various orders and how long they would be. Â Walk up and ask! Â And when I say screaming, I mean it. Â It was totally uncalled for and made for a very unpleasant experience. Â
The menu says that Chevelle's is a family-owned place and we thought that was cool at first. Â However, they do need to realize it is not their house and that customers do not want to listen to them yelling back and forth. Â Walk up to each other like human beings and then discuss whatever it is that needs to be said. Â
I did not complain about my sandwich because it had already taken forever to get to us and I did not want to have to wait for them to fix another one. Â My fault for not saying anything. Â I know. Â But we will not return and we will not recommend Chevelle's.
I'm a local and have been here multiple times so this isn't just based on a one time experience. Chevelles problem is that they are not consistent with their quality, you may have a perfect meal or you may not. I wish this wasn't true but it is. Another weird thing is that they have this teen clothing store in the middle of the restruant sittting area?! I guess they thought that would bring in youth to buy clothes? But honestly I've never seen one person even looking in that awkward little thing. So with the food being inconsistent and the prices being a bit high it's hard to recommend this cool local place when you really are just taking a chance on having a good meal.
Review Source:We have had dinner there several times. We try to go early to visit without talking over the live band. Â But lots of people love their entertainment. Â We have always had wonderful food and good service. Â I LOVE their crab cake appetizers and my husband loves their pork pinwheel with sausage. Â If you get their daily specials, you can get them very reasonably priced. Â It's also a sports bar if you are looking for one.
Review Source:Chevelles holds the record - the best fried callamari & grilled duck  I've ever eaten .... and the worst! The first time we tried this little place it was a gem. Perfectly cooked food and great service. A  week or two later a friend told us he'd just gone & that his food & service were awful. We decided to give them the benefit of the doubt & try them again, sure wish we hadn't. The duck I'd loved before was fatty, soggy, overcooked - just a mess. Our server seemed distracted or annoyed to be waiting on us & she disappeared several times during dinner, then dropped the large bill on the table as if she were doing us a favor. We haven't been back.
Review Source:Pretty cool place in a little town, they seemed to have everything...food, clothes, karaoke, and a bar. Great beer selection and the food is above average. Had the stuffed shells, as did he, and we loved the family style salad the brought first. I even picked up a shirt to remember the place.
Review Source:Great food, very nice people.... not what you'd expect when you see the place from the outside. Sit at the bar if you can and Haley will for sure take good care of you! We stop every time we are coming through... beware not everything on the menu is great, ask the wait staff, they will give you their honest assessment and not steer you wrong.
Review Source:Overprice and unimaginative. Â My wife and I stopped in here on our way through town and were impressed by the menu selections only to be sorely disappointed by the taste of our food. Â I had the grilled duck breast and my wife had a chicken special. Â My duck was grilled perfectly but the sauce was runny and tasted nothing like what was promised, same for my wife. Â The presentation was identical for both dishes. Â My wife's chicken was overcooked.
All in all, we had a dinner worth about $10 a head for $50 with tip. Â What a bad taste left left in our mouth. Â To add insult to injury, we quite loudly wished the staff a fond adieu and got no respond. Â Thanks for a weak experience and the lack of appreciation of our business.
WOW, amaaazing food. This little hidden gem is tucked round the corner from Hayesville, North Carolina! REALLY friendly people, great service and excellent food. I had a cup of potato soup that was the best baked tato soup I've ever tasted. Tried the steak, salad and pasta (all from friends dishes) and we we're all impressed. They are sanitary too! Happy to see at the bar had an hourglass shape container to hold the bar snack and so you have to pour it out on napkin or hand to eat it, NO bowl that a ton of people would dip hands into, so kudo's to them!
