Conover Tavern

I give this place three stars for trying, but it honestly doesn't deserve that many. The lunch buffet is a decent amount of food for the price, but some of it is awkward. For example, the Mac and Cheese has SUGAR in it... The taste is awful. Menu prices are way too high and the sweet tea is horrible... The atmosphere is great, though and some meal items are very good such as the grits with Gouda cheese and Shrimp... Even though that isn't on the menu anymore. Give this one a try but don't expect much and don't go if you're expecting perfection.

I had the lunch buffet several times and it was was a good meal for the price. I can't say the same for the dinner menu. It is very over priced for below average food. Went there for dinner and to listen to live music on Saturday night. After the poor dining experience, we decided not to stay for the music. Quesadilla appetizer was very bland. The onion soup was the worst I ever had. Grouper was average. If you are going to spend $15-$25 per meal, there are much better options in the area.

Great spot in the main drag of a little town.  If you are ever out this way I recommend stopping in for a burger if you are around for lunch.  The sweet potato fries were also delicious.  Although it sounds like a pub, they are probably only using that "Tavern" title as a cover to get some of the less than worldly locals to actually come in and try some decent food.  They also are acting as a full-service wine bar.  I only got in for lunch but I was extremely surprised as to how affordable and delicious a meal I could find in such a small town.  They just opened about a year ago so give them a shot.
