Always a special meal stop when we come to the Lake Chatuge area. Last night was out best experience yet. Toni, our server, was excellent - down to making sure the wine bottle didn't touch the glass. My wife's fruits de mer was excellent! My Ribeye was perfectly prepared. As I've mentioned before, the bread pudding dessert is the most amazing dessert I've ever tasted! Congratulations Dennis! I'm glad to see you're doing so well. Be aware; they don't accept AmEx.
Review Source:I was in North Georgia visiting family and friends and for our last night in town we went to the Copper Door to eat, have some drinks, and socialize with friends. Â What a great way to end our visit.
Walking in we were greeted by the chef/owner Dennis, as well as several others of the staff. Â Extremely friendly atmosphere, and now I know what southern hospitality is about. Â You would never have guessed that the building was an old gas station.
Our waitress Amber was great and was able to answer any and all questions about the menu.
Let's start with the bread/rolls. Â These would rate as the highlight of most meals I've had, but this night they were an indication of what was to come. Â They were more Yorkshire Pudding than rolls. Â The basket sat on the table for a minute or two while we carried on with our conversation before the aroma forced me to dig in. Â Light, airy, and golden brown, I've never tasted anything like it before. Â Accompanied with butter compounded with honey and horseradish, we had to order more.
Appetizers were Georgia shrimp sauteed in butter, garlic, herbs, and red pepper flakes. Â Simple, but perfectly executed and never taking away from the perfectly cooked, extremely sweet shrimp.
A bowl of mussels in a nice broth of leeks, shallots, diced tomatoes and Pernod. Â I couldn't resist using the Yorkshire Puddings to scoop up the remaining broth.
While my two other diners had perfectly prepared beef, filet and rib-eye, I went with the veal chop. Â I arrived on my plate with roasted red potatoes and a nice squash and asparagus saute. Â The chop was nicely frenched and served with a demi-glase. Â Perfectly cooked to medium/medium-rare, I finished the entire chop before I realized I didn't offer a taste to my other dining companions. Â
If you are ever anywhere near this part of N. GA or Southern NC, do yourself a favor and take to time for an excellent dining experience.
If you are anywhere in the area, I highly recommend you try The Copper Door. We were traveling on business and came back again and again over the course of two weeks and were never disappointed. The service is great, the food is outstanding (creative and delicious) and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. Wonderful fresh popovers, the freshest seafood in the area and my personel favorite: spinach salad with a lavender and honey dressing that is unique and addictive. Â Excellent. Â Don't miss it.
Review Source:This is definitely what I call a 5-star restaurant with a 5-star dining experience. My mother and I went here for dinner last Tuesday and had a wonderful time.
Our waitress was Amber, and she too deserves 5 stars. While she went over the specials, I started wondering if she was a rapper on the side. I wouldn't be surprised if she could recite the whole menu in a nice, relaxing flow with just one breath. Regardless, she was extremely professional from beginning to end.
We ordered:
- the baked brie in puff pastry (honestly, this was just okay to me. I've had better)
- oyster shooters (my mom had them before and said they were pretty good, but the restaurant decided not to bring them out last week because they weren't happy with the quality of the oysters).. so instead they brought us:
- escargot bourguignons (I've always been terrified with the idea of eating "snails," but I finally tried them a few years ago on my senior cruise trip per all of my friends' requests and had a difficult time swallowing. This time, I mistakenly thought the escargots were mushrooms from the mushroom soup I ordered, and didn't understand why the "mushrooms" were so chewy. I'm surprised I enjoyed them! Nice buttery, garlic-y flavor :)
- mushroom soup (it was okay to me, but probably because I was expecting a different kind of mushroom soup. I think others would enjoy it though.)
- beef tenderoin filet (woooow. One of the best filets I've had all year. Very very tender and juicy at med-rare)
- duck breast (my mom's order. Tender and delicious as well).
Even though we didn't order any dessert, I thoroughly enjoyed our meal and hope to be back soon.
This is a very unusual find.  It's basically in the boondocks so I'm not suggesting a major road trip to get there but if you're within an hour of Hayesville go.  It's competing for my second favorite restaurant  anywhere, and I've been a lot of great places, after the numero uno in NYC.  The mussels,  the scallops casino, the veal chop, the desserts - go for it!  We have never had a mediocre entree.
Review Source:This could be the best restaurant within 50 miles of Hayesville.... it's good. We were visiting the area and really enjoyed the country cooking and southern food BUT this was nice break from all that. Â The ambiance and decor were great, the service excellent. The food was good - my husband and I shared a salad for appetizer and it was good but a bit sweet (it had goat cheese, oranges, candied walnuts and a raspberry vin - dressing put the sweet over top). Â The rolls were amazing, out of this world good. Â I got the chipotle chicken - was a bit overcooked and tasted as if it were marinated in teriyaki sauce (which I didn't like) and chipotle drizzled on top (it's pretty spicy drizzle btw). The vegetables I got with it were fabulous. My husband got the scallops in a cream sauce - good but not excellent. Â
Overall, we liked it a lot and it is definitely a one of a kind in that area. Â If we go back to the area, we'd definitely eat there again.
Hayesville NC should never lose this place, because it is truly one of the best restaurants I have eaten at anywhere. Â The location is in this quaint, little, mountain town at the southern NC state line. Â The prices are fantastic (compared to major cities like Atlanta).
The bread with the honey butter is to die for!! Â Just try to resist stuffing yourself on them. Â For our main dish, I enjoyed the veal meatloaf with mashed potatoes and vegetables; It was very filling and delicious. Â My wife had the seafood and pasta (muscles, scallops and shrimp); outstanding! And my children shared a salmon dinner that was very very good (you know when they eat it fast and completely, it must be good). Â
If you are ever in this area, Copper Door is worth the drive.
This place was sooo yummy! Everything on the menu sounded so delicious. I ended up getting the grilled chipotle chicken with garlic mashed potatoes & the seasoned vegetable which was carrots the chef made in a way I've never had before! The chipotle sauce wasn't spicy like our waitress described THANK GOODNESS because I can't handle too much spice. It had a great flavor to it.
My SO had the surf and turf. He had a happy plate so I'm going to guess his was just as amazing!
Our waitress Amber was so nice and had all the answers to our questions. The chef even dropped by our table to see if we were enjoying ourselves and the food, we really appreciated that.
This place is pricier than the usual places in Hayesville but well worth it. The food is phenomenal and the ambiance is so soothing. If you are from out of town then these prices will seem normal to you.
This is by far the best restaurant within 50 miles. Fine dining in a small town is rare and the Copper Door is a standout!  Excellent  and imaginative menu, great service from very attentive staff, beautiful decor. Prices are moderate. You can't find a better place for a great meal.
Review Source:Went to the Copperdoor for the first time recently. The ambience in the room had an intimate feel. It is dark inside, but I felt it was right for the place. We started with the crabcake cake. The sauces with it were fantastic. Probably one of the best crabcakes I've ever had. The house and caeser salads were fine. My entree was crawfish tortellini. It was awesome. Pasta was perfectly cooked. The sauce very delicious and the crawfish amazing. My partner had the surf n turf. Filet mignon with scallops. Great tasting steak. The casino style scallops were the only thing that was lacking a little something. Mark was our server and he was great. We told him we wanted to take our time with our experience and he obliged. Probably one of the best dining experiences we've had up here!
Review Source:A true find. Â Big city quality in a beautiful small quaint town. Stopped by with the intention of just having a drink and maybe an appetizer - but stayed for dinner and desert.
High quality, beautiful restaurant with very attentive staff, the menu consist of everything from first rate appetizers (warm brie, shrimp etc.) to filet and surf and turf. Â
We had the filet with butter garlic sauce and red snapper special. Â Both were well presented and delicious.
Drinks were generous. Â Everything about the place was first rate and very reasonable.
If you find yourself nearby - make an effort to enjoy this place.
