I've had the Copper Oven bookmarked forever-- something always worked against me getting there; seasonal hours, already had dinner plans, not enough time, etc. It kept calling me though. Well, finally made it there this weekend and I'm thankful it did not fall off my radar.
First of all, it was a beautiful day which only helps a guest take in the Cayuga Lake landscape. Second of all, this is a great restaurant format and I wish more would adopt it-- find the thing you do well and specialize in it, rotate the menu and use creativity to keep guests interested, and try to stay local when possible. The Finger Lakes is really a gem and I was reminded of it this weekend. There is a bounty of fruits, vegetables, cheeses, etc that come from this region and the scenery is nothing to balk at and now I know there is also some great wood fired pizza. Can't wait to make it back there-- won't delay so long next time!
They make THE yummiest pizzas. Â Grab a bottle of Cayuga Ridge wine and sit on their lovely deck, and it's a great meal. Â Non-drinkers can order other refreshments.
They have expanded their menu recently to have dessert pizzas, too, which I haven't tried, but they look great. Â All the ingredients are sourced locally and very fresh.
I'd love for them to attempt a vegan pizza, but for now they usually feature one meat version and one vegetarian.
