Lenz's Countryside Restaurant is about as local as it gets. Â We're visitors, but we appreciate eating somewhere without other tourists, and we're usually the only ones at Lenz's! Â They get a good crowd, and folks move from table to table greeting friends. Â Small place with a very cozy atmosphere.
We come for the fish fry: Â you can choose 3-piece or 5-piece; comes with roll, salad bar, and choice of potato. Â The salad bar isn't as extensive as at some places, but has good choices: Â nice crisp lettuce with your choice of about 6 different dressings, croutons and bacon bits; a couple kinds of pasta salad; cold baked beans; beets; coleslaw; sauerkraut; watermelon; other choices. Â I missed the traditional broccoli salad that wasn't out that night and missed the traditional peas and peanut salad, but enjoyed my choices any way.
Be sure to go early: Â Lenz's closes at 7 pm on Fri, which means they start putting away the salad bar about 6:30. Â If you're not there by 6 pm, you're really too late for supper! Â They accept credit cards, but most people pay cash and leave a cash tip.
