Always good food and never too long of a wait unless its Thanksgiving and that's understandable.

This is a very good Cracker Barrel.  Although, I haven't been to very many bad ones.  However, this one is full of wonderful staff.

While on business in the area, I needed a good breakfast location.  Having a Cracker Barrel so close to the hotel is a plus.  However, going there each morning was a choice and the staff kept me returning.

The food was just what you expect from a Cracker Barrel.  If you are in the area and happen to be looking for some good food and quality service.  Make a visit to this Cracker Barrel location.

Though I had never been to a Cracker Barrel before, I'd seen it enough on the road, in my travels, to already feel like it was an institution that I was missing out on.

Granted, I wasn't expecting fine cuisine, but it's like experimenting with culture/cuisine that seems so whole-heartedly a slice of American.

I've also been skeptical, though I met some friends here at this location, and ,was greeted with a gift shop, farmhouse decor, and a noisy restaurant.

The gift shop had a wide variety of items - from clothing, to shelf-sitters, to location-based tourist items. All pretty tasteful, I might add - rocking chairs quilts, etc. with a country farmhouse theme.

They seem to want to replicate this theme to the decor, though, and not sure if it works all that well - the walls are all with dark wood and , old, rustic farming implements and black and white photos dot the on wall.

The dining room was bustling, and the servers were on us like flies on flypaper. Service was OK, and fairly prompt considering the busy time.

Portions that I saw at other tables were consistently gi-normous, and since I wasn't hungry, I ordered sides - Mac n Cheese, Green Beans, and Okra. Let's put it this way - the mac N cheese was swimming in cheese sauce (like the Velveeta kind), and everything tasted like it came out of an industrial-size can.

Let's put it this way - I set my expectations accordingly beforehand, and they were met: comfort food catered to the older generations who can connect to the "blast-to-the-past", though it would be nice if they could bump of the food quality a bit to have it really taste like comfort food like mom used to make rather than comfort food from the local hospital!

I give them kudos in the following ways, though -

The old relics do their job - items that probably jumpstart those "I remember when..." conversations between the young and the old.

The gift shop is pretty good quality.

They're busy, so they must be doing something right! Had the rating just been for the food, it would've been 2-stars, though I give 'em three for the reasons I just stated.

I just ate here for Thanksgiving. Great food and great service. Everyone had a wonderful, positive Holiday attitude. The Thanksgiving meal had turkey, dressing, ham, green beans, biscuits, dessert and a fabulous sweet potato casserole (this was my favorite thing). I will be back next Thanksgiving! No dishes for me this year!

I bet the Cracker Barrel didn't think I would return. But when I decided to meet my Dad for Thanksgiving lunch I called and found out that these folks were serving their Thanksgiving menu all day long.

No reservations were being taken over the phone, and when I arrived we had to wait about 40 minutes. It was understandable since the place was packed. My mother and I milled around the gift shop and she actually found a couple of items she liked.

The food was actually very good, and plenty of it. We had turkey, stuffing, ham, mashed potatoes, cornbread & rolls, and even some pumpkin pie for dessert. Our waitress looked like she was 16 years old, and was very nice but a little inexperienced. She forgot my Dad's drink, and when he reminded her she told him that he never asked her for it. It was a tense moment for a couple of reasons: a.) he DID ask her for it and we all heard him, b.) we were puzzled that she didn't just apologize and the get soda, but instead chose to insist that he hadn't ordered a soda. Even if he had forgotten to ask for it, just shush up and get the drink. Can't remember her name, but she was a red head with flowers in her hair. I quickly stepped in and took control: smiled, and just politely asked if she would find getting my Dad his soda. Problem solved.

So why the four stars if we got the argumentative waitress you ask? Well, because of the kind ladies working at the front in the shop. One younger girl was so nice to my Mom, and  was helping her with her selections and basically just being a sweetheart. My Mom can be a handful, but this girl never batted an eye and even took my Mom's purchases up to the front counter so she could pay for them after our meal. I spent about 40 minutes walking around the gift shop before our meal, and all of the ladies working in that area were always smiling and very helpful.

Thanks Cracker Barrel, you made my Thanksgiving a good one!

A very nice place, located right off the interstate, this Cracker Barrel is always hopping, and with good reason. The food reminds me of the days the way "mom used to cook 'em", from the chicken fried steak, to the meat loaf to the roast beef, there isn't a bad choice on the menu. Also you can get breakfast at just about any time. The store inside has lots of items for sale for that hard to find birthday or Christmas gift, and of course, the rocking chairs outside are comfy while you wait, which you probably will have to, since it's so popular.

Let me first say, I've never eaten at a Cracker Barrel that hasn't been awesome, but what put this location over the top was the customer service.  (We've eaten at several different locations all over the country, and have even been known to drive to Yuma, AZ-the closest to us-on a random Saturday just to curb the Cracker Barrel craving.)  We were at this location on our way out of town after visiting family when my girl fell in love with a quilt they had on display.  Unfortunately, they had every size but King which is what we'd need.  They offered to take down our name and # and said they'd call if they got more in on the next shipment.  We told them we lived out of state and asked if we could give them the names and # of my parents.  They immediately jumped into action (literally!), asked us where our final destination was, and called every other Cracker Barrel location along our route to find the size we needed.  They couldn't have been more wonderful, and months later my girl still talks about the cute little ladies that were so nice.

Something about sitting at a table by the fire watching it snow outside with two plates of delicious food in front of me makes me smile. Especially when those frozen flakes of climate change are falling on East Texas on the second day of spring.

My family and I love Cracker Barrel. My favorite is Mama's French Toast breakfast with country sausage, eggs over medium, and extra syrup. And lots of black coffee. Any time of day. Eddie, our server, was all smiles as the place was packed on this Sunday mid-afternoon. An easy hop off of I-20 if you're just passing through, for us it is our departure-from-Tyler ritual. Yum!
