Found this place by accident when the place my sister and I originally planned to meet was out of business. What a great experience!
Jeremy was our bartender/server and was very attentive without hovering, even after we moved out to the patio! He let us know that it was Happy Hour and served us up two giant frosty mugs of brew with the perfect head on it!!
Our order came our super quick, I mean like less than 5 minutes! We shared an order of pulled pork nachos that were pretty dang good! I was very impressed that not only did they not squawk that we shared, they had no problem putting the red onions and bbq sauce to the side and giving us a to go box for the leftovers. The corn chips were fresh, thin and crispy but not so thin they couldn't hold up to the toppings! And THANK YOU JESUS real cheese, not that canned crap that tastes like stomach acid! HUGE PORTION! I wish I had thought to take a picture.
The hostess was super sweet and answered all my questions with enthusiasm. So they are biker friendly and while they do not have designated parking for bikes, she did tell me to give her a call if we have a large group coming and she would section off between the buildings for us (even tho it is grass).
I definitely plan on returning and hopefully my experience will be repeated every time. I gotta try those fried green maters the Ms. Katrina mentioned...mmmmm
I went for the Sunday Brunch Buffet. Felt pretty under whelmed. Nothing was great, nothing was awful, except for the weird, super greasy tartar sauce. Catfish was okay, chicken fried steak looked like fried chicken, chicken strips were kind of burned. The baked squash was good, but they ran out and never replenished it. Service was as bad as everyone talks about. How hard is it to remove old plates from the table? I guess too hard. Server asked me twice about refilling my tea. "Sweet or unsweet, Brother?". Never brought me any until it was tip time. I hope you noticed your tip reflected your effort of seating me and bringing me one glass of tea, Brother, because that's all you did for me.
Review Source:It had been awhile since we came here, and I have to give it a full 5 stars now! Service was great, and somehow the food is even better! I love the burger and hand cut fries! Hubby's fried catfish was awesome. Then I got a chocolate meringue pie to go. Oh wow!!!! I ate that pie all week. Reminded me of my grandma.
Review Source:Went here for a DAR meeting. The staff was super friendly! The food was good! I suggest the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer. I also noticed how crowded the place got. We arrived at exactly 11 am when they opened, and within ten minutes it was packed with the lunch rush. I didn't get to try the buffet (because it's Sunday only) or karaoke night (Wednesday), but the food was good! The restaurant is an old remodeled store in ANNA's historical downtown. The place is a little expensive. Everything is over $6.00, except the side salad, and the drinks. But, it's worth it. The place is fantastic!
Review Source:I hate to give bad reviews but here goes...We've been to Crow's several times over the last couple of years and it seems like the food quality goes down with each visit, perhaps due to the management change last Fall. The food, while plentiful for the price, is inconsistent at best and the sides on our last visit were consistent only in their poor quality. I had a side of macaroni and cheese which was a melted glob of cheese over macaroni that was bland and my fries were definitely on the soggy side. My dining partner had green beans which were limp and overcooked and onion rings which were overbattered with what seemed to be the same batter used on their chicken-fried steaks and heavy. We were barely attended to other than having our drink and meal orders taken and then weren't offered cornbread and rolls that come with every meal. The wait staff seems to be more and more inconsistent with each visit although still very friendly. Unfortunately, this was most likely our last visit to Crow's since it's one of the few dining choices near by in far northern Collin County/western Fannin County. The restaurant does stay busy probably due to the fact that it is the only "home-cooking" establishment nearby but there are far better choices. We were at least offered an "Oh, I'm sorry," when we paid and were asked how everything was. We weren't expecting comped meals but maybe the manager asking how they could improve things would've been nice.
Review Source:About 15 miles north of McKinney on State Road 5 there is the small community of Anna. On the main street are several businesses including Crow's County Café. The restaurant appears to be fairly new or remodeled. There is a large seating area as you enter the establishment and to the right is a nice bar. Specials were displayed on a  chalk board as you entered the restaurant. I chose the fired cat fish which was one large piece of fried catfish. There were several other options on the menu including a pork chop which was tempting. A fresh salad was served with the fish along with fried green tomatoes and my spouse had the fire okra. There were several other choices of side dishes. The restaurant was packed by the time we left at 1PM. Some of the review have listed the wait service as an issue however we got excellent waitress service. Fresh rolls are served with the meal. The prices for almost all the luncheon specials were less than $8. We noticed they have a buffet on Sunday for brunch and lunch. There is outside seating however you can't take advantage of that during 100 degree temperatures. Perhaps some time in the fall. Parking is not a problem as there are many spaces along the main street in front.
Review Source:We tried Crow's when it first opened & we were not impressed at all. Â We decided to try it again to see if they had improved now that they have been open for a while....I must say our initial impression was way off! Â We love this place, the food is fantastic, good old down home cooking food. Â The helpings are huge, enough to make 2 meals. Â The pulled pork nachos are to die for & they have the best chicken fried steak that I've had in years!
Review Source:The food is great, but the service is TERRIBLE. Â I have been 3 times and the hostess/servers were always aloof but never rude. Â The last time I took my husband who had never been there before and as soon as we walked in the door they were rude. Â Almost like "how dare you enter our resturant". Â A party of 4 came in 10 mins after us and got their food in about 10 mins (they also got their bread which we did not and they had full cooked food, we ordered a sandwhich and veggie platter), we had been there 20 mins by now and no food, no service or acknowledgement from the Manager or Servers so we left. Â If they would have acknowledged the delay or us it might have been different. Â Will not go back!
Review Source:We have not been here since they first opened. At that time the service and food was horrible. Today for lunch we decided to give it a try.
We were seated quickly. Our female server was awesome. Very attentive and friendly.
The food was great. I had the French Drip, my wife had the fried chicken salad, my daughters had the BLT and Crows Burger. The fresh cut fries were very good.
I was here on Saturday with my Honeybear. Â It was just the two of us for dinner. Â We came in around 6:30, it was not horribly busy. Â We sat at our table and waited about 10 minutes for our guy server to take our drink order. Â He was nice and friendly. Â As an appetizer we got fried maters....Yummy! Â The service was good up until it was time to go. Â our server left our tab on the table and we never saw him back again!! Â He was busy talking to the hostess upfront or joking around with the other staff. Â We kept trying to get his attention but he dodged to the back. Â We finally got up (after a long 20minutes) to pay at the hostess stand. Â **Look, we are awesome tippers...I've been there/done that and worked as a server in a ton of places over the years...so I know how it is, hence the reason why I tip the way I do.... Â But this guy got the minimum 10% because it pissed me off there at the end playing the attention game and waiting! Â Not cool dude, I've been double/triple/quadriple sat and I still have never left my customers wondering "Where is she?" Â
Food was great as usual but the service this time around kind of sucked...it could have been better if the guy was not in such a hurry to clean up and finish his shift. Â
I'll still be back for the fried Maters!
A friend invited me to meet her at Crow's Country Cafe in Anna, TX. And she asked if a buffet was ok with me. (Sure!) Honestly, I almost called back to ask if I needed to bring cash, thinking small cafe quite a ways out (nope, plastic works fine).
I arrived before her and enjoyed sitting out front, just experiencing the old time town feel of it.
After we got seated and ordered beverages, we went over to the buffet. They have it laid out in stations. I fully intended to go for an omelet, but that got totally bumped by the entree stations: fried catfish, ham, chicken-fried steak, some kind of chicken, mashed potatoes, a cabbage dish and several others. The fried catfish had a great texture, and a good amount of pepper in the crust (and just a tad too much salt for someone who adds none to anything). I skipped the chicken-fried steak - just not my deal. The ham was wonderful. The chicken had a very good flavor, but had sat a bit longer than it should have (we were there about 1:30, so kind of late). Â Oh, and that cabbage dish? Killer. Really.
But honestly, the kicker for me was the second trip, to the desserts. They had small slices of pie and pieces of cake, which I thought worked well because I could easily justify trying a couple of different ones (and pay for it later!). They had German Chocolate cake (I overheard someone at another table say that was their favorite), Banana Pudding, Boston Cream Pie, Lemon Poundcake, fresh fruit, Lemon Meringue pie.
Now, lemme tell you about that Lemon Meringue pie. That baby could win awards. Man, oh man. If you like Lemon Meringue, you know how we're always getting it in *hopes* it will be what it should be, all the while knowing better than to get our hopes up? Yeah. This is it. Even though the rest of the food was good, I wasn't expecting that pie. I took a bite and just groaned. Explosion of lemon, just sweet enough, and the buttery, flakey crust under. Holy moly. I asked my friend, "do you like Lemon Meringue?" "eh, not really" "Still, Â you've really gotta try this - it's unbelievable." She took a bite and died. A new Lemon Meringue fan, now that she knows what it *can* be like. Obviously fresh, from scratch, no canned nuthin'. WOW. The baker, Rachel, was tending bar - they got her over for us to tell her directly. And we were more than happy to.
The Crows saw a need for a home cooking restaurant out there, and so they darned well opened one, hire culinary school-trained chefs to do it. And it shows. Oh, and my friend says that even if something isn't on the menu, the chef will give it a shot if possible, so that's nice to know.
And given how taken I was with that pie, I'm counting my blessings that I don't live TOO close!
