Watch Manta rays at the Sheraton....pay 10 bucks for a drink, don't really see Manta Rays, pay 10 bucks for a drink that takes forever to get to you, and watch people eat terrible looking pub food that costs waaaaay too much. This place is not worth going to if you plan to get anything.....now if you're staying at the hotel, this place has a nice view, get a drink somewhere else and bring it in?? That's be the only way I ever go again
Review Source:After reading the other reviews my wife and I were skeptical. The sunset views are amazing, happy hour drinks reasonably priced for a Hawaiian resort, and you can see manta rays most nights.
The food/apps were decent. We really liked the kalua pig quesadilla, though the first time we had it there was a bit too much salt. Certainly not great food, but with the right expectations this will be a good experience.
Crystal Blue is the veranda bar at the Sheraton Keauhou Bay. This place gets two stars because I'm feeling exceptionally generous and because of a) location and b) good (if overpriced -- $9 each) drinks. It's a nice place to come and while away an evening if you want to throw back frozen drinks and watch manta rays or the lovely Kona sunset.
Because of these qualities it just barely qualifies for two stars. The food is awful. Not just generic, fried-food, bad, but truly terrible. I ordered the fried calamari, which was rubbery and barely recognizable and came with a pink-colored dip that I swear had a packet of Splenda added to it. I think if I bought the same dish in the frozen section at Safeway and dropped it off with the kitchen I would have had a better meal! I really can't even describe how bad it was.
I can't believe that a huge, four-star resort like this can get away with serving food that the local Wendys fry-chef could probably out-do.
Come here for the atmosphere and the expensive tourist concoctions but, please, dear-god, listen to myself and other Yelpers and avoid the food like the plague. The kitchen staff should really be ashamed -- I can't believe the chef keeps his job. This warning goes equally for Kai, the resort's main restaurant, because I'm 90% certain they share a kitchen.
Horrible horrible horrible food. We ordered crab dip, tenderloin tips, and mozzarella sticks.
Tenderloin tips were fatty and tasted horrible, the crab dip had cheap crackers that were rock hard, the bread was so hard you could throw it at someones head and knock them out. The mozzarella sticks tasted like fish, and the sauce was straight from the jar.
I'm shocked the Sheraton would allow such crappy food. To make matters worse I just got the bill and it was $60! Â
Do not eat here. You can regergetate better food and save money.
Awful food, excellent drinks. Â Had some really nice drinks there while staying at the hotel. Â Unfortunately, this is some of the worst food I've had in a long time. Â Fish was not fresh (we sent it back). Â Wings had no taste. Â Only the crab dip was marginally edible. Â The other restaurants at the resort have decent food, so I'm not sure what happened to this place. Â Go for the drinks, but avoid all food.
Review Source:We decided to dine at Crystal Blue after checking into this very nice resort. Our expectations were high given the fact that rooms go for $350 a night and up (or $150 on PriceLine).
The menu consists of a number of appetizers, mostly Asian, with a few American dishes thrown in for neophytes. The prices ranged from $6 to $15 each which is not bad considering the high prices on the island.
Sadly, the food was terrible. We ordered Chinese chicken salad, which, while being the best of our dishes, is not saying much. The salad was boring with a sweet dressing. The fried rice was bland and cold, the appetizer steak had a nice taste but was cold.
Realizing that I was still going to be hungry, I ordered Buffalo wings which was a mistake. They were, by far, the worst wings I have ever had. Cooked for too long and drenched in a sickly sweet and tangy dressing, I was unable to finish them even though I was fairly hungry.
The atmosphere was nice and the drinks were okay but avoid the food at all costs.
