Driving back from Memphis on 55 North. We needed to stop for nourishment.
We choose Cape Girardeau, as its a bigger town and my husband had gone there when he was a kid. We yelped before we got off the highway, with another restaurant in mind. But once we parked the car and walked around we stumbled on to this place. It had soups and salads light as we didn't want to sit in a car with a big meal in our tummys. We were blown away, two homemade soups a day, we got a grilled cheese sandwhich with 3 chesses really good. The waiter was kind and helped us with the order. The owner came over after our waiter told him we were from California. Sweet time, good people and good food. Lastly they had great looking homemade desserts-yes each looked homemade. All the coffee favorites of Starbucks.
If you go in the afternoon or evening there is lots of wines and a local micro brew!!!!
I absolutely love this place, the food is great as is the coffee. A married couple owns this place, and the wife is so nice and friendly. The husband however... A total jerk, he is rude to customers and is very pompous. I went with a friend and they messed up her order, then the husband blamed my friend for the mistake. Even though she had specifically told them what she didn't want in her food. There have been other incidents such as this one, he is the reason I didn't give this place five stars.
Review Source:The ambiance of this café is inviting and charming with the wall of wine bottles, hats, flavored syrups, and jams for sale. I agree with the other reviewers that the service is friendly, but slow. During lunch hour, an extra server would be better. If you only have a half hour for lunch, I would not recommend going here. The food is average, but I suppose the location, lively atmosphere, and delicious coffee make up for the smaller portions of sandwiches, soups, and appetizers. I highly recommend the caramel macchiato and the raspberry truffle latte!
Review Source:The location is great if you're looking for a small locally owned & operated place to get a quick bite & be able to sit outside to enjoy nice weather. Â
A couple owns & operates this place. Â If she's behind the counter then things go much more smoothly & it's a friendlier operation. Â Don't expect anything to be quick especially if the husband is by himself. Â
I have found that about the only thing I eat here is to call ahead for a ham & cheese melt or just cheese on a croissant with mustard which I pick up for breakfast. Â It tastes better to me than anything I've been able to find at a drive thru' fast food place though I seldom eat breakfast as I usually just drink mine - coffee & juice on the run.
Can't comment on the coffee as I don't recall every having any here as I've usually finished drinking coffee for the day before I head out the door in the morning.
I just had Bailey's Irish Cream Cheesecake--don't hate. Â It was fabulous. This won't be a long review, because I really need to get myself on the treadmill ASAP--but it was worth it.
There were two people running the place--a lady, who I think might be the owner, and a new guy. They were both sweet as can be. I showed up after closing, and they welcomed me. I had a great time there and will return soon.
This is my favorite nice weather or need a cup of great coffe and a sandwich place downtown. The outside tables with a lovely  cheese plate, wine and good friends is great when the weather allows. The pick two offer of sandwich, soup or salad is nice for lunch. My grandson loves the fruit drinks.
Review Source:This past Sunday on a visit to Cape Girardeau we dined at Cup 'n' Cork for the first time in ages, though we visited frequently when attending college and living in town. We love this coffee and wine bar and especially love their lunch menu.
Sunday the service was slow (recall it being slow in the past, too) but the waitress was always courteous and gave her advice when requested. In fact, when I asked if one of the Soups of the Day was vegetarian she recommended a different option, a vegetarian chili which was absolutely fabulous. The paninos my husband and I got were great, too, and served in nice portions. After lunch we got drinks, a hot chocolate and a caramel apple cider. Both were delicious.
Perhaps the best part of the place (though in competition for the great food) is the atmosphere. One wall was lined with shelves of wine bottles. A second wall had what I believe to be local photography and two large racks of hats for sale. The third was comprised the espresso and dessert bar.
It was a quiet, friendly place, trendy and tasty. I really would like to rate Cup 'n' Cork 4.5 stars; on days with faster service my rating would include the fifth star!
Yesterday was my first trip to Cape and while driving around looking for a spot to chill for a few hours, my sister and I drove past Cup N Cork and stopped in on a whim.
A warm and cozy coffee / wine bar on a rainy fall day was a much needed oasis. There's a nice little selection of wine, coffee drinks and food - the pies in the case looked absolutely scrumptious and the entire place just smelled of goodness. There were some students sitting at a table playing Scrabble and an older couple sharing a meal, talk about adorable.
My sister and I enjoyed our glasses of Riesling out on the covered patio area out front and were pleased with not only the location, ambiance, carafe of ice water that was brought to our table with the wine but holy cow the music selection playing just loud enough overhead (Van Morrison, James Taylor, Beatles, etc) was spectacular.
If you're in Cape, this place is a must.
Wow, not sure what went wrong with my visits here - as the other YELP reviews were so positive... Service was miserable, both in quality and demeanor on the first visit, while just slow and unprofessional on the second. The third, I only ordered from the coffee bar and not a meal.
Food, well... the soup is from a can of generic knock off wholesale variety and only lukewarm. (We learned the origin of the soup when asking if it could be heated a bit more or replaced.) The meat in the sandwiches is  straight from the cold cuts section at the local supermarket, and at the prices they charged - I was expecting more.
The Good - Coffee Bar. I had a great Mocha, while another enjoyed a flavorful espresso & lastly the brew of the day was quite nice. The outdoor seating in Downtown Cape is nice. Great wine selection.
For a relaxing lunch in the Cape Girardeau area, there us no better bet than cup'n'cork. Nestled among antique stores and bars in the historic downtown Cape area, this place offers both a charming interior and a lovely porch out front that is great for people watching along Main Street.
I have been here a couple of times now, and am always very pleased with the service and quality of the food. I've had their cheese plate before, and as a cheese fan, was quite delighted with the assortment of yumminess accompanied by nuts and fruit. Their panini sandwiches are tops.
Today I had a started lunch on the front porch with the small house salad with a blue cheese dressing. The greens in the salad were vibrant and fresh, and the other veggies were brightly colored and crisp. The dressing was rich and delicious, my splurge! I had a fantastic glass of Pinot Noir along with the lunch, which was a fresh shrimp linguine pasta. Seasoned subtly and beautifully. Extremely enjoyable eating this lunch.
They also have a beautiful selection of desserts on display by the register. I asked the owner (who was also my waitress and cashier) about these, and she explained that another lady had retired from running her own cafe after many years. However, she still has a passion for baking, and all these gorgeous cakes and pies are home made and delivered through the week. I got a piece of the chocolate cake to go, and it was so moist and delicious, and tasted like something that would have come out of grandma's kitchen.
This is a great spot to come for lunch or a light dinner. They also have a fantastic coffee and wine selection, so I could also see stopping by after a meal for one of these amazing desserts along with a coffee. Or an afternoon break from shopping with a glass of wine and a cheese plate.
All in all, wonderful little cafe, and one of the few dining experiences I actually look forward to when work brings me to Cape Girardeau.
Had a delightful lunch rekindling a friendship from a decade ago. Â I had the panini and a glass of cabernet. Â The taste was quite delicious. Â The server interrupted quite a few times, although, in her defense, I dont believe we stopped talking from the start of our 3 hr lunch. Â Definitely a great place to catch up with an old friend. Â There were also many delicious desserts to tempt me from my low carb diet. Â Fortunately, Â I managed to refrain.
