Custard Stand

This place is amazing. Some of the best ice cream that I have ever had. The soft serve is amazing and they don't skimp on the toppings. Also, the chocolate malts are to die for.

Even if you don't want ice cream, their food is actually good as well. I have gone to The Custard Stand many times just to get a BBQ sandwich or a cheeseburger. Yes, they are a bit pricey for a small take-out joint, but they are worth the price nonetheless.

The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five me because of crowd control, for the lack of a better word. On any summer night, they will have a long line. The lines are so long, I haven't been there in the last year, because I just don't want to wait. If they could figure out a way to accommodate more customers at one time, that would help a lot. Still, they are doing something right. If you want to wait, it is worth it.

My recommendation is to go during the day. The lines are short.

Oh my goodness, the memories. Standing in line waiting for a cone after the Sesser Homecoming. Getting hot dogs, chips and ice cream to take back to my aunt and uncle's for dinner on hot summer nights. Coming here on lunch break during my first job. I grew up here, and it's a must every time I head back to So-Il. (That's Southern Illinois for you city folks.) The orange sherbert with crunchy topping is incredibly delicious. Please, Custard Stand, never change! Only open during the spring through early fall, which makes it even bigger a treat.
