We went on a road trip to help our friends move. Â Logistics were a bit fuzzy and I offered to help out if they needed me to drive the U-haul. Â So guess what I did? Â I drove the U-haul!
So off we went on a Saturday morning. Â It was getting near to lunch and I told the wife that I was ready for some lunch and there was a town coming up with some places to eat.
Me: "What do you want to eat?"
The Wife: "I don't know. Â Subway...?"
Me: "I'm not in the mood for Subway, I might get DQ, do you care?"
The Wife: "Nope. Â Just drop me off a Subway and come back and get me."
Me: "Okay."
As we pull up to the intersection and turn towards the Subway (in the gas station), we see that the DQ is having a Grand Re-opening celebration. Â What does that mean? Â The parking lot has quite a few cars in it, more than I would expect but it's right next to Subway so I say, I'm feeling like a Blizzard(tm) so I decide to park there and get food at DQ. Â We walk in and find out that they're giving away FREE Mini Blizzards(tm). Â No purchase necessary. Â What divine provision!
So I wait in line, order my Crispy Chicken Sandwich Combo and we order our two Mini Blizzards(tm) - Heath bar for me, Oreo for The Wife.
"Do you want your Blizzards(tm) now?"
Me: "Actually.. Â I guess after I eat."
"Okay, just come back with your receipt when you're ready."
I sit down and wait for my food and the wife comes over with her Subway and we chow down. Â There are kids running around with the face painting they're offering and people stuffing their faces with free Mini-Blizzards(tm). Â
I finish my meal and go place my order for our dessert. Â Service is a little slow but it's definitely understandable with the place packed. Â The Blizzards(tm) are perfect, not just because they're free, but because I really wanted a Blizzard(tm) already. Â Free was just sugar on top.
We came back the next day on our trip home and the Grand Re-opening was over. Â No more free Mini-Blizzard(tm), no more face painting. Â =o/
An excellent place to stop if you're craving a frozen treat. Â Stop in and pay your respects to the Queen of Dairy.
Not one of the better DQs out there. You may want to stick  with one of their ice cream products from the drive-thru. I work away from home a lot and often travel I45, so I end up stopping at these kinds of places a lot for a quick bite on the go. The dining room here is often not very clean, and simple grill orders often aren't done properly. Several times the fries have had that old cooking oil flavor. On the bright side, the frozen dairy products have always been good
Review Source:Driving down from Collin County to Nasa Road One will pretty much suck my gas tank dry. Â So that I didn't have to worry about finding a place to stop, in the rain once I hit Harris County... I decided to stop in Buffalo, Texas.
What is in Buffalo, Texas? Â A Valero and a Dairy Queen. Â That's about it. Â I first visited the Valero and filled up my tank with gas. Â As painful as that sounds, it was still cheaper than what I had paid in Dallas just two days earlier.
Then I decided to go to Dairy Queen. Â I pulled up in the drive thru line and sat. Â And sat. Â And sat. Â I finally decided that since the first car hadn't moved in 10 minutes that it would probably be faster to go inside.
It was when I got inside that I realized why the cars weren't moving. Â They had a manager barking orders but doing nothing but eating a blizzard hidden next to the cash register. Â They had one guy in the kitchen trying to make all the orders. Â One girl stocking napkins (like taking care of customers isn't more important) and one other girl who was attempting to manage both the drive thru window & the counter.
I placed my order... Hunger Buster Jr Combo with CHEESE. Â No mustard, no ketchup, no lettuce. Â The girl repeats back to me... no mayo, no tomato, no pickle? Â UM... seriously? Â Some how I knew my order would be wrong.
I also, attempted to order a Girl Scout Thin Mint Blizzard... but they were "out" of thin mints. Â Hmmm... surprising? Â Not really... since I could tell that is what the manager was sitting back over in the corner eating.
Yep. Â My burger was wrong. Â Luckily it was only missing the cheese. Â But I still took it back to them and told them to fix it.
I think maybe next time, I'll fill up and get food in Fairfield instead.
