Having grown up in Texas, I am accustomed to the standards of quality at Dairy Queen. I've many a good meal at numerous locations around the state, especially those located along the I-45 corridor between Houston and Dallas and between San Antonio and Dallas.
Texas DQs are the best. I don't understand why and I don't spend much time pondering it, all tho I do wish the DQs outside the Lone Star State could keep up.
For one thing, as far as I can tell, the only place you can order a Dude sandwich at a DQ is in the state of Texas. A Dude is a chicken fried steak sandwich, is the bes DQ has to offer in the way of a sandwich. Yes, the burgers are good. But nothing is like a Dude.
That being said, nothing is more awkward than going into a Texas DQ and saddling up to the counter and stating, "Um, yes, hi, I'd like a Dude, please?" Sounds more like an order you'd hear in San Francisco!
This location has been around for as long as I can remember. It's possible it's older than I am.
I always save room for a small vanilla soft serve cone.
